At 72 I recently heard a quote that has really impacted my view of life: “Comparison is the thief of joy”. I have often compared myself to others and felt lesser by comparison. And yes-it does rob me of joy. I’m working on discontinuing this harmful exercise.

I'm 73 and lost my husband from cancer after 47 years of marriage. I sold our cabin and sold our home and live in a 55+ community. I love the simplicity and picking and choosing what interests me. I walk lots with my 4 year old border Collie and do exercise classes at the senior center. Medicare pays for Senior Sneakers classes. I’ve been seriously re-evaluating what’s in my bucket list and how to actually do it! Yours is an excellent video. My only comment is to seek the Lord with all your heart and He will direct your path.

As a teacher, I prefer to work. I just turned 70. I now want to travel and learn in universities around the world.
I have taught students from all around the world. Now I want to see where they live.
I may even do a PhD outside of the US!!
      These will be my vacations!
I have no children nor a partner. If I meet someone with the same interests as myself, that’s great! I do not look for a partner anymore. I am a caretaker for my mom for the past 5 years, my siblings will not help. This is fine as I still work full time. When I retire to part time, this will have to change.
I will not maintain toxic relationship or listen to negativity. It’s all about moving ahead. Looking back is a waste of time. Onward ! These are the best days of my life.

I mourned 70 years of memories and belongings thrown away and almost suffered a burnout. One year later today I have found new friends ( most older ones have died ), established a new relationship with my children and grandchildren, found new hobbies and activities. Finally I live every day as a present and have a new lease on life.

Loved your video. I just turned 77, and I've spent the last 8 yrs taking care of my younger brother. I love him, but he just can't seem to take care of himself. I do his bills, his shopping, his laundry, cleaning his apartment and anything else he needs done. He's so needy, and there's no one else to help him. He also has many health issues. Recently, he was taken to the emergency room, then to rehab for therapy. So, for the last month and a half, I've been running back and forth between his apartment and the rehab facility, doing things for him, plus, I'm still doing his bills, laundry, etc.. I'm totally exhausted, and spend whatever free time I have, sleeping. And I'm still tired. I've cancelled doctor's appointments, and even cancelled plans with my best friends. I just can't do this anymore. I told my brother this morning that I have to step back. I'm starting to feel old, which is something I've never felt before. Prior to helping him, I was always doing something. Now, I just want to be left alone. Your video convinced me I'm doing the right thing. It's time to be myself again. Of course, I'll help him get an aide and nurses, but I'm finished being his "caretaker". Thank you so much for this video. I really needed it.

This video really hit home for me. I am a 79 year old lady. I live in a low income building in the Jersey Shore. September 2024 I turned 79. I am a widow. I worked all my adult life. Always pinching pennies. I started walking and then jogging in my forties and worked many jobs of all kinds. The prosecutors office, a local police department, the local morgue, many stores as a salesgirl, unloaded trucks for KMart. Now nothing. I found a lot of people in my environment don’t “ move around” or act like high school students forming “clicks”, if you know the term. One night, around midnight, it had snowed, I drove home to my apartment, before I lived here. I got out of my car and slipped on “black ice”. Ultimately, I ended up having brain surgery. I did very well, walked through it, so to speak, Well, !!! I was told I couldn’t work anymore. I will end this now. It’s too long! Thank you.

I started working out and meditating a year ago, and I started to really love and like myself for the first time. No more body shaming, feeling less than, or worrying what others think of me. I laughed at 60 and thought it was the best, but turning 70 is going to rock! Thank you for putting this beautiful message out there, for all the women who think life is over after 70. Now I relish my time with ME. I no longer feel lonely, and I enjoy my home and the things that bring me joy. I have one grandson whom I babysit every other Friday for the entire day, and I relish every moment. We laugh and have the best time doing silly things or simply cuddling. I would like to find a travel partner, as I want to see more of the world and I have the finances and the time. Thank you for bringing it home with your wonderful thoughts. I have been free of LC for a few weeks now and as I listened to this video my smile of joy was in the afirmations of your words. I had come to most of these same conclusions during my reflections during my forced bondage. It turned out to be a great gift to me to change my ways and outloook on life. Your words are so true. I am almost 77 and making a major move in a few months. It will be a new chapter. I thought I had downsized to this home after a second failed marriage. 15 years of accumulation since is now overwhelming. The loss of dear friends made a huge impact. My two children are very busy with their lives and I fear being a burden to them so I remain fiercely independent as my Mom once described me. I am definitely a survivor after jumping over many hurdles. I gained the respect of family and friends. However, not everyone. I am letting go of two from my past. It’s sad, but time and circumstances change people. It’s definitely a stage of life when self preservation is crucial whether it’s a need for maintaining self respect, or a desire to release negativity for emotion health and well-being.

Thank you for sharing the encouraging words I heard during this video. I couldn’t agree more how important it is to be brave and discover who you really want to be how you really want to rest who you really want to hang out with and who you don’t want to hang out with Right now I am in the middle of deciding when I’m gonna start wearing that looser styled clothing that I so much enjoy at home. I’m not talking big old men’s T-shirts. I’m talking flowing open lightweight material jackets, a shirt and pants combination that doesn’t emphasize some kind of waistline which honestly is barely there. I realize I’m short and wearing wider clothes just makes me look bigger, but I look around and I see some pretty big women out there and they carry themselves with such confidence that they just look beautiful. It’s not about your size. It’s about letting your inner light and joy shine And like you said enjoying that clothing that you love so much who cares if it’s bright colors or lots of flowers.

This was wonderful. I’m 73 and have lead a rich life with many highs and lows…I took notes and ended up with 11… I must have mixed two up into one. Anyway, this wisdom is great and lacks only one thing I would add. Thank God for your life. Seek to live joyfully and prayerfully before Him. God bless you all!

Excellent video. I’m 82 and remember when I was in my early seventies. One of the best times in my life. Now I have some physical challenges but am mostly happy and content.
