Her voice! Smoky, just a little bit jagged and totally mesmerizing. One of the truly talented who could go out on a bare stage, read a telephone book and it would be riveting!
thank you for doing this video. I have admired Wanamaker's acting for years. I love finding out more about her. I live in the U.S. so I haven't gotten to see her acting as much as I would have liked. She was gorgeous as Amanda Wingfield in a production many years ago of THE GLASS MENAGERIE on the west end-that I was lucky enough to see. The set was blue brick walls and fire escapes. it was a marvelous production. I have seen THE GLASS MENAGERIE onstage many times with many very good actresses. Zoe Wanamaker was much the best Amanda I have ever seen. She was glorious. I love that she was able to thrive in the British theatre. Lucky for the rest of us!
Thank you so much. I’ve always admired Zoe and I’ve now learned so much more about her. What I thought I knew only scratched the surface. Thank you for all the work you did putting this together. Much appreciated. 🙏🙏👵🇦🇺
I've always liked Zoe Wanamaker, finding her compelling and challenging. A strong, no nonsense and highly individual force. Her unique, crooked smile and riveting eyes darting back and forth have made her someone I couldn't take my eyes off of. Must have first seen her in Paradise Postponed and then, happily, so much else including the first Prime Suspect as our killer's unknowing wife - wow ! Wanamaker and Suchet play off each other superbly and I'm thankful for her casting as Mrs. Oliver. Well, you've covered it so well Marina. Thank you for a comprehensive overview. It was a happy day when the Wanamakers came to the UK. America's loss, our gain.
Thank you for this profile of Zoe. Whenever she appears on my screen, I know I'll enjoy whatever she's serving. I did not know of her American and acting family roots. I'm glad she decided to make her career in England. I feel like the British film and stage are more forgiving of unusual or non-conforming looks. I saw a video recently about why so many women think they are "ugly" or "masculine" looking, and basically, it mainly came down to them looking a lot like their fathers. Zoe, you're not ugly. You just look like your beloved father.
Love your video!!! LOve Miss Wanamaker and her father! First time I saw her was in POOR LITTLE RICH GIRL. THOUGHT SHE WAS SO INTERESTING. Have enjoyed seeing her ever since. Thanx so much!
Just saw the one on Hugh (Hastings) now this.. I have always love Zoe.. now I am going to have to go to your site and see what other nuggets you have there.. thanks..
I had no idea that actor was her dad...I'm almost 70 and seeing him I remember his face. Zoe has an interesting face as well as a beautiful speaking voice. I only know her from Poirot. I enjoy her acting.
Excellent actress with unique look and charisma. I don’t bother famous people when I see them out and about, and despise people who do. But I would have to really hold myself together not to break my own rule if I ever spotted her 🤭
Zoe can’t fail. Everything about her is just magic. I’ve always loved her. I don’t think there is a decent character she can’t embrace. I wonder who she really is. Hah
Thanks muchly for this loving, -rightly so, homage to this remarkable & highly talented actress. I must embarrassingly admit that before your video, i was obtusely ignorant of the fact that her father was Sam Wannamaker. I was fully aware of both of them for ages, but had never made the connection, or seen any reference to it. It might be from my thinking of Zoe as totally British & Sam as definitely from the USA. Another area of ignorance on my part is Sam's involvement in the reconstruction of the Globe Theatre. I knew of the project long ago, but had it in my head that it was the British actor Edward Fox who was at the forefront of the project. Turns out i must have confused it with a theater restoration project he helped by campaigning for funds. It was a hundred years old theater called the Royal Hall which his great grandfather was one of the leading benefactors behind originally building it. Anyway, thanks again for such an interesting & well presented portrait of, as you said, a beloved actress. ✌💜 from Canada.
I have a whole 40-minute long video video about her. I do get your idea, however - she was marvellously beautiful, no doubt, yet, somehow, producers at the time didn't perceive her as a lead actress when she was young
It's just her quirkiness that rivets me. Actors that fill the character parts are like short stories; saturated with message in a contained format making them unforgettable.
I've always loved Zoe's little pixie face and whisky voice.
love her nose ?
I love Zoe in everything she acts in. Thank you for this video.
thank you for taking time to write this!

thank you, Marina, for another thoughtful and entertaining program!
My pleasure! I'm really happy that you liked it!
I always wondered if she was related to Sam Wanamaker. Now, I know. I truly enjoy any Poirot with Ariadne Oliver.
I even wanted to rewatch Once Upon A Time In Hollywood for this purpose :-)
Was her dad. He made a film called Christ in Concrete....many years ago...around the middle 1950s
All said and done she became famous thru British television.

Thank you so much for your kind words and sharing your impressions of Zoë!
Thank you so very much, Marina. This was excellent.
Glad you enjoyed it!
She was wonderful in the episode of Morse (John Thaw) called "Fat Chance".
The only Ariadne Oliver I will accept

Oh, thank you so much for this kind review! Made me happy to read it, really!
Besides Madam Hooch, my favorite role she played is Cassandra from Doctor Who. Even tho you only hear her voice, I recognized her voice right away.

Her father was a great supporter of theatre. We have that Globe theatre because of him. Zoe is a great character actor.

I first saw Zoe in a hilarious sitcom My Family and fell in love with her immediately and forever

You do a great job at this -- a pleasure to watch your posts (& this one in particular -- she is so masterful as Ariadne) ❤

Thank you for this. She has always fascinated me. Very good actress.
I have wondered about this mesmerising Ariadne actress. Thank you for this fine program.

She was terrific in the original BBC TV ground breaking award winning " Edge of Darkness " and in Dr Who

@@marina_via You're welcome.
I think you should look at some photos of Angela Lansbury when she was young!
