  • JustPlanes flightdeck filming of the Canadian North Boeing 737-200. For the fill film www.worldairrou...
    Ten years ago we first visited Canadian North and we're delighted to be visiting this great airline again mostly because it allows us to feature a full program now in HD on this fantastic aircraft which is becoming harder to find as time goes by. The program covers half a dozen great destinations out of the airline's Edmonton hub with some great approaches and very nice scenery. Most importantly we have 2 sets of pilots who go above and beyond to present every aspect of the 737-200 in complete details to you and take you step by step through each flight as they explain what they're doing and how each flight progresses.
    + Cockpit filming using 6 cameras for great views on takeoff & landing!
    + Program shows several wing views on takeoff/landing including trust reverser operation
    + Company Presentation
    + Pilot Presentations
    + Briefings & Checklists
    + Cockpit set-up
    + Cockpit Presentations
    + External Walkaround
    + Fantastic scenery

      I see at least 10 of these aircraft a day at YEG. The cargo airline Cargo Jet, use to fly a 727-200 in the early morning, I nicknamed it "The Rocket" because it sounds like a rocket taking off, now they use a 757 in the morning.

      David Halligan It depends entirely on the autopilot. The SP-177 in the later Advanced series aircraft was very similar to the SP-300 in the -3/4/5 and was tied into an FMC, in fact, since the introduction of the SP-177, the 737 MCP hasn't changed much at all. This particular aircraft has the SP-77 originally fitted to the 737 family.

    At what point would you run up your engines while holding the aircraft stationary with the brakes, instead of just doing a standard takeoff? Given the loads the captain was making reference to, I couldn't help wondering if there weren't times when you might be required to utilize the alternative method on shorter runways, and how you decide to do so. I recall flying on the old Frontier in a fully loaded 737-200 from SLC to DEN, not being able to land at DEN or COS because of a blizzard to then fly to the next alternative, which was one of the small cities on the west slope, not Grand Junction FWIW. When we were finally able to proceed to DEN the pilot in command, rev'ed the engines up until the aircraft felt like it was going to shake apart before releasing the brakes, and Baby did we take off like a bat out of hell. It was a blast. I would guess that we were likely at 7000 feet or higher in airport altitude, using a rather short runway that was mainly used by Dash-8s, but it worked very well.

    I love seeing the 737-200 still being flown. I was lucky enough to fly on a couple 737-200s back in 2005 that Aloha airlines flew for inter-island flights in Hawaii before their bankruptcy. Plus it's pretty cool that they were the last airline in the United States to fly the 200 in scheduled passenger service.
    They're definitely a very sturdy aircraft and you can't beat the sound of the jt8's on them so this video was definitely a treat!

      I believe thats the gravel kit so gravel doesn't get deflected into the engines when the nosewheel touches down.

    • @andrewolson248
      @andrewolson248 9 лет назад +3

      amstevenson FOI prevention for the turbine engines. They land on runways with alot of particulate that could be ingested into the nacelles resulting in lots of engine damage.

    • @glennsmith3473
      @glennsmith3473 9 лет назад +2

      The purpose of that apparatus is to deflect stones when they land on gravel runways. It is part of a special kit designed for the 737-200 to land on gravel. There is also a tube near the engines that helps deflect any gravel into the engines.

      Don't they have similar gravel protectors on or near the under wing landing gear too? In Anchorage, I watched a number of Alaska Airlines 737-200 combos maybe even a 737-100 or two landing with what I assumed to be gravel kits. The classic aircraft you can see at Edmonton or Anchorage is like a trip back to the 50s, with DC 6/7s, Convair's, Electras etc everywhere. If you haven't visited Edmonton you haven't been in Canada, it's an incredible city.

    I fly this airline regularly, and when I was sitting next to a guy he said to the flight attendant "I've been all over the world and this is the only airline that still feeds you." They still do, and they're hot meals and included in your ticket. They fly from Edmonton to Inuvik and back again every day, with stops in Yellowknife and Norman Wells. I usually catch the morning or evening flights from YZF to YEG (or back), and that's when they give you breakfast or dinner. Oh, and the plane that flies that route is the -300. Needless to say I love this airline :D

      Yukon Air also serves full hot meals on their flights included in the ticket price.

      Technically -100/-200 are consider originals and -300/-500 are the classics.

    I fell in love with aviation BECAUSE of this airplane. 18 years later, as a real pilot, I could never dream of flying an airplane like this one, the last "real" airplane to my eyes.

      it's sad, but flying is a lot more efficient and also safe because of technological advances like in the a320s and NGXs

    The cargo door seems unusually large!I was wondering if all 737s are made with a large door in fuselage to load cargo inside the cabin? Or, are they a "special edition" or model?

      +merc340sr It's the 'Combi" configuration - 737-200C.

      John Stephen Why don't americans use Boeing only? Why don't europeans use Airbus only? Why don't brazilians use Embraer only?

      Bombardier is a Quebec company and not Canadian. They've made that very, very clear.

    737-200 is beautiful, but its engines are not very eco-friendly and efficient right?
