    Fun fact, the guy playing the homophobic king is Stephen Fry, an openly gay man and queer rights activist. Once he even did a show were he went to some of the most homophobic countries in the world and debated their leaders. He holds a very special place in my heart because he narrated the Paddington Bear audio books I had as a kid, and played in one of the first TV shows my grandma and I watched together.

    I love this movie!!! I have watched it 4 times in 1 day and I cannot stop. The book and the movie are great. The chemistry between Nick and Taylor is off the charts!!! I laughed, I cried. Everytime I watch it I see more details and nuances that I missed. The love making scene was perfection!!! Never seen anything like that before. ❤️
    I have now seen it 10 times! It just gets better and better!!! ❤❤❤

    After the cake falls, the camera looks down on the floor, suggesting a wedding cake with the two guys on TOP.
    PS - If I was a guest, I'd race over and grab some of the cake before it gets trampled on, etc.

    Maypole - ceremony dating back to the middle ages, of dancing around a pole, each person holding the end of the colorful stream, and as they dance and prance, in both directions, weaves the streamers down the pole.

      @@linnaeusshecut3959 Could be but also could be a celebration of anything you want. Probably started as a celebration of warmer weather so as to be outside dancing, which of course, would also include the connection of spring to fertility.

    Yes, a stupid custom perhaps but as Thanksgiving approaches, there are so many such birds facing being butchered for the meal, so they have this actual little ceremony where they have the president "pardon" the turkey (actually a pair).
    Interesting watching different people react to this movie, and about half are bewildered by American customs and the other half, by British ones.

      I'm almost done with the book and will watch the movie for a 3rd tmrw. And yes, for the most parts, I indeed do like the movie more, although the book's good, too. Especially the 2nd half. 1) Alex' and Henry's realationships seems for genuine in the movie. Also bc Taylor Zakhar Perez and Nicholas Galitzine are so amazing together. Chemistry off the charts!!!!❤❤❤❤ 2) They are more mature in the movie. Whilst reading the book I often thought of the being 16 - 18, not 22 and 23. Maybe also due to the actors perfomance. 3.) Alex parents are dicorced in the book, still get along great. His stepfather is a good guy, too, but almost disappears the longer the story goes. Weird. 4.) The email hack is caused by a former friend of the Clermonts and kinda political ally of Ellen, also gay and Mexican. Found that hard to believe.
      4.5/5 for the movie. Two small things: The build-up from enemies (well, were they ever^^) to lovers could have lasted longer. And the guys forced outing caused some major stress for Ellen's campaign and her team. In the movie, it went a little too smoothe.

    • @helenryder8999
      @helenryder8999 8 месяцев назад

      Good explanation but in the book the email hack was caused by Ellen's opponent Gov Richards, and found out by independent senator Rafael Luna who sends the evidence to the White House via Nora.

    I love the film, but as a british person there are some moments of suspending disbelief, like we can tell it was written by an American (and I say that in a nice way) because there are things that are super obviously not right.
    For example, Henry would never be allowed on stage at a poltical acceptance speach, the royals have to be non-political at all times, they can't even vote.
    Chances are the royals, the UK government, and possible the UK people would have a difficult time with a royal being with a political figure. In fact they'd expect Alex to give up politics entirely, especially if he was to marry into the royal family. And there are laws that require the king as head of state to sanction the royal marriage- he could refuse to do so.
    Henry would definitely know how to dance to club music, all the men in the royal family are expected to do military service- and beleive me they will learn that stuff there
    They keep using the wrong terminology, using england, britain and the UK interchangeably.
    The crown would really struggle with a gay royal as a working royal, you'd be ok as a close relative that was a Lord etc but not a prince.
    And it's not really because the UK would have an issue (some will but i suspect most wouldn't care) BUT because the royal family are head if state accross multiple countries in the commonwealth realm. I totally see a constitutional crisis in places like Jamaica etc
    Long term, there would also be issues about the children of Alex and Henry. The royal family is all about blood lines. Any children not biologically Henry's wouldn't be considered royals or have royal titles, so adoption or biological kids to Alex are not going to gain titles or be regonised as royals. Likewise if Henry did have biological children through surrogacy, they might be deemed bastrds, there's no presidence for it.
    I'm not saying this to poke holes, but actually I think the reality could make for a more intresting plot with more obstacles to consider- I think it would give some great plot ideas if they made a sequel

    • @yepenn5820
      @yepenn5820 Год назад +3

      Well in the book Henry does what any sane person would do and leaves that archaic institution and becomes engaged to Alex, so that's probably the plot line that any sequel would follow.
