Im surprised he talked about nekomas libero touching Asahi's spike even before they mentioned it, that's an actual volleyball player for you.

I really do believe that Nekoma, and the bond that Karasuno forms with them, is one of the main reasons the boys are able to do as much as they do later on.
I also really believe that Nekoma will be one of your all time favorite teams in this series.
So far I absolutely love the dynamic they bring and the play style of the team
Yaku (the nekoma libero) is soooo good! he is one of my favourite liberos in the show. Since nekoma is specialised in saving and defense, it must be so honouring to be named the libero of that. And you've met Kuroo!!! my fave character! i love him so much, I'll talk way more about the reasons why I love him when we get to s2.

Oni's are usually depicted as Demonic trolls wielding iron clubs. While they come in many colors, Oni's and the masks that represent them are often red. I may be wrong but I thought the Oni masks with menacing fangs and large horns are thought to ward against evil spirits and bad luck.
So yeah, in short they're saying Kageyama is a monster armed with his trusty club, Hinata :D

Kinda late today but man, that smile ALWAYS gives me chills, ffs I fucking love these Hinata's moments... we could say this is the second time, first one was the "We haven't lose yet" face at first episode... it's impossible to not get chills whenever it happens. We're close for HYPEkyuu to finally start, I can't wait!! (Yes, you read correctly, HYPEkyuu hasn't started yet)
I do love how they do the art work in those moments to give you MAX goose bumps hahah. And it’s so hard to believe it hasn’t even started the hype yet…
I like how you touched on how different Tsuki is from Hinata. The way the writer uses names makes me so happy. So…
Hinata and Tsuki are polar opposites. So with their names the “Hi” in Hinata means Sun and Tsuki means moon. One is bright and warm and the other is calm and cold.
Then there is Nekoma. The “neko” stand for cat. But my favorite player of theirs is Hinatas friend Inuoka. Just like Hinata he is positive, bright, and warm. The opposite of all of his very cat like teammates. Because the “Inu” in Inuoka means Dog. 😂 he is the dog raised by cats.
It is crazy how much thought goes into each character! Thanks for pointing those extra ones out to me!
@@lachyywhite yeah, the mangaka (the author) clearly picked names that would carry special meaning into the characters, as well as using them to illustrate their relationships with others. Like, for example, Crows vs Cats, it's not just about the "garbage dump" visual, but you can see how it relates to their playing style. Karasuno has the strong offense, so you could say their area of strength is the sky, but Nekoma has the strong defense in receiving, so when the crows touch down on the ground, the cats are there, ready to pounce.
Also, speaking of names, it's kind of funny how Tsukki and Hinata's names place them as opposites, because at the start of the series one might think Kageyama is Hinata's opposite, in that he's his biggest rival. But actually, the "Kage" in Kageyama means "shadow", suggesting that their names are actually meant as complements to each other (Hinata's "sun" casting a formidable "shadow"). Hinata and Tsukki, on the other hand, are total opposites in height (tallest vs shortest) and personality... but they are both middle blockers, so they play the same position, but with completely different styles.

This is something they never added into the anime- and it technically wasn't officially in the manga either- but the reason Kenma dyed his hair is because Yamamoto (mohawk guy) got startled by him once because his hair is relatively long and told him that his hair made him look like Sadako from The Ring. Kenma interpreted it as hair color and proceeded to dye his hair blond. (Yamamoto meant his hair length, but Kenma is very much my autistic boi, and he doesn't like having short hair.)
KNEW THAT MY HUNCH ON KENMA BEING AUTISTIC IS CORRECT. Actually Kageyama is also, as well as another prominent Season 3 character. Then Hinata's more of an ADHDer. I love how there's a very subtle representation for neurodivergents in Haikyuu!! even if may not be really meant at all, especially as an AuDHDer (Autistic + ADHDer) myself. No wonder Haikyuu!! has always been my most fave comfort anime.

A great insight to Kenma's intelligence and observation skills is him noticing Hinata's t-shirt that says "Karasuno" and connecting the dots when Hinata said he's in a volleyball club.
Although you can't see it fully last episode, when Hinata first sees Kenma, he sees Kenma's back/jersey covered with his backpack, where you can see the N _ _ _ _ A.

What I love is the 2 different ways to look at setter. Kenma's the brain. The rest of the team is the blood. Brain needs the blood to be able to work properly. Their player 's are all about the team supporting the setter so he's stronger. While Kagema call's himself control tower. Controlling the game for his team and bringing out their strengths. Don't think either one in wrong, but I all think is Suga was main setter, think Neko 's mentality be a better fit for him.
A comparion on that front is a comparison I have heard I don't know if it is from the show or another reactor. But that nekoma is a team that makes up for kenma's physical "weakness" by having amazing receives while kageyama's genius level skill is making up for karasuno's bad/weaker receiving. Which also show that if they were switched they might both look worse than they do now.

@@megamert2848 This early on for a non sports player. Just showcasing, that even though both are playing volleyball. How they’re playing the game is very different.The impact of a single player can fundamentally change a teams playing style. Something I never would have given thought too.

Haikyuu is a masterclass at character development. Pivotal to that development are the relationships built around these characters. I’m looking forward to your thoughts on the rival teams that you will meet from here on.

I love that whenever Hinata goes up against Nekoma, he learns his faults and starts to develop. There are so many cool growth moments throughout the coming seasons that I can’t wait for you to react to!

I think the reason they do their special quick right off the bat is because they want to establish the middle as a threat so it can be a more effective decoy right away. Especially with Hinata being a short guy they did to establish the fact that he must be covered or he'll go off so he can be a better decoy.

I fuckin love Kenma & Kuroo but to be absolutely honest there’s not many people in Haikyuu that I don’t like 😅 join us on the Tsukki hype train Lachy, it’s all good times here.
Also I love a good anecdote, the pauses to tell a little story and link it in with what’s happening and explain it to us laypeople is so good 👍🏻

Nekoma is one of the team who help Karasuno to grow, they don't care that they're supposed to be rivals, they cherish friendship, sportmanship and help them to become the best of themselves. I really love their team aside Fukurodani (I think you know them by now, The Owls) and Aoba Josai. In manga, Kenma and Hinata's friendship shines a lot (I always think that because Kenma is a cat and cats likes the sun, which is Hinata is.😂) I'm really excited on your reaction to Tsukki and Kuroo's (with Bokuto and Akaashi's) interactions. I'm just a new viewer but I'm having fun with your reactions and anecdotes in every episodes 😂.
I love the dynamic between Karasuno and Nekoma! They are my favorite type of rivals - on the court, they give 110% to beat each other but still are happy to see each other grow and improve. Also, this growth is not only about the team - so many characters from Karasuno and Nekoma help each other grow as humans as well. You will see what I mean in the future. I love it here :)
I do love the dynamic that I’ve seen so far! Both teams are super competitive but get along really well
kenma's hair has kind of a funny story. there was a little extra story released in haikyuu about when he got his hair dyed blonde. kenma dyed his hair because he was told by his classmate that his black hair made him stand out too much bc it was a bit long (he kept it long because he is introverted and long hair kinda gave him more cover) and he also looked gloomy so that made him look like "sadako" (a japanese horror character), so he went and dyed his hair blonde but that made him stand out even more lol. there's no winning for mr. i want to be invisible lol.

you're absolutely right! kenma always cared about other people's opinions so he was always so observant and focused while thinking with himself and he can be very strategic since he's a gamer (like how we see him playing in his first appearance), it's really interesting how many subtle details furudate put on his character, perfect for being a fan favorite one!

Just to clarify, Hinata is still closing his eyes for the super quick. Coach Ukai told Kageyama to toss a normal quick to Hinata and Hinata is trying to hit a normal quick with his eyes open.

Gosh dude, that just gave me a big energy boost! (Kinda not good cause i have to sleep now😅) Nekoma is my absolutely favourite team, after Karasuno, and i really love the team members. Kenma and Kuroo are my faves of Nekoma, i love their best friend/pretty much silbling like relationship so much!

“Oni ni kanabo” is a commonly used Japanese proverb meaning “one becomes even stronger, becomes invincible”. Oni is a strong demonic ogre like figure who uses an iron club as a weapon.
So something so strong as an oni, in this case Kageyama, uses a super strong weapon, in this case Hinata, creates an even stronger invincible player. So one way to weaken him is take away his weapon.
“Hari ana ni ito wo tosu” is also a common proverb meaning “doing something so complicated and nerve wrecking as if you’re threading a needle”. And for anyone who’s done sewing would probably understand how frustrating and difficult it can be to thread into such a tiny itty bitty little hole in the needle. Of course not using any tools😎
Also not wanting to be too picky but Ukai is pronounced more like ookai, similar vowel sound as like goose. Saying it with a y sound becomes a totally different name🥲
i love these characters so much, hinata just switched gears and although it was out he essentially outwitted the libero ans the blocker. and the blocker is excited for him and compliments him. he could have been annoyed and say something mean but nope hes just excited to play the game. love this anime.

Great insights into the game, as always! Although I actually think it's a good thing Hinata and Kageyama brought out their quick right away, because they'll have the whole practice match to learn how to adujst to a team that has adapted to them. Better that they experience this now, so they can try out new strategies and feel confident and comfortable in changing their style during a match when a tournament is not on the line. And Nekoma is a great team to do that with, because of their strong receives keeping the ball in play. Plus it makes sense that they'd be eager to bring it out, they've been training for a whole week but haven't had anyone to use it against since the match with Ukai's team. It's kind of their "hey, take us seriously" move that let's other teams know they're not the fallen crows anymore.
This is a very good way to put it and makes total sense. I got too caught up in the moment and didn’t put my learning hat on hahah

Hinata couldnt do tooling or tipping coz he doesnt see the ball, thats why he just full swings straight down which is easy to block if u barely get one hand in front of it.

Oni are youkai. Think of them as folklore monsters type of thing. Oni are kind of like ogres. They weild iron clubs, meaning that the monster here is Kageyama being the Oni and Hinata is his iron club.

I guess the russian setter that you mentioned was Serghey Grankin, he is for sure on of the smartest and fastest russian setters, he played several years outside of Russia because he couldn't find a team in russian superleague because he was considered hard one to teach or to work with. As you mentioned, he was an olympic gold medalist and that fact made him to be self-centred, the tops of russian league didn't want him in their teams, so he forced himself out and found a new inspiration to play again, to prove that he isn't washed out...

At first I also was frustrated that Kageyama keeps setting to Hinata and it fails, like - where is Asahi and Tanaka? Had to learn from other comments n reactions that yeah, we see them, cause that's the focus of the episode 😁 meanwhile we're 10 points ahead on the score board. That's where Noya's comment about "scoring more" comes from, they're scoring in the meantime :D

I love how you don't keep anything behind a paywall and show your full reactions to the series but I would like to point something out. Most of the people here have already watched Haikyuu plenty of times. I, personally am on my 51st rewatch. The show is written masterfully and rarely ever feels bland. It specialises in letting its characters breathe by giving us small bits where the players are just sitting around taling to each other. They make it feel like a real high school club and not something which is out of this world. But as i said, we have rewatched haikyuu a plethora of times. So sometimes those moments start to feel stale to us. Maybe you can experiment with your vudei lengths for a few videos. Maming them short, medium and long. Seeing what really gets the stuff down for everyone.
Since your channel is still nee, i believe you can experiment with your vhdeos.
Another thing is your thumbnails. You will improve your thumbnails gradually because rn they aren't the most grabby. Let them look clickbaity if they get the job done.

Kenma is not the perfect setter who specialized in adapting his toss to all the players in this series, but he is very very smart. There will be another setter who can perfectly adapt to any hitters he plays with 👍🏻

Hinata is a bit stiff when it comes to learning something new. that's why everybody is nervous, when he does it. And it messes up the tempo of the whole team waiting for a weird quick that you can't even see and getting something else
You can compare it to cooking for example. He learned by himself watching others and trying, so he doesn't know, how it works, why, doesn't know he can do it much better, doesn't know there are a lot of different ways to cook the same food and obviously doesn't know a lot of recipes, but prefer to master something he think is important (high jumps and speed)
That's why when he is trying something new it's not doing the thing you know and changing something in it but rather learning how to do it from the scratch. it doesn't feel the same anymore. He is, you can say, inventing it again (cause he didn't learn his recipes the right way and doesn't understand, why it does or doesn't work and can't even take people advices cause they have their own language and norms he doesn't get)
And then his team is used to him doing food not salty enough, they are gonna be preparing for it
So I believe their little steps (you can say it is basically a baby steps in the first season) are quite impressive already
This is a great way of breaking it down, thank you for explaining it for me. He is essentially a beginner with freak abilities so he’s able to learn things super quick when he applies himself
I know you've probably got a bunch of recommendations already, but I'd like to add Hajime no Ippo to the list. It's a boxing anime and is so motivational and inspirational that it got me off my ass and led to me losing ~80 pounds a few years ago and actually keeping it off for a change. I think it'd be right up your alley.

Are you going to be watching the OVAs as well or just the series? Just asking because there's an OVA of Nekoma called "Riku vs. Kuu" or "Land vs. air." It shows a match that Nekoma is in that is not shown in the series and how Kenma interacts with his team mates. It's a personal favorite as it is part of the manga timeline.
