- Have to make a move in the polytunnel to save the tomatoes after they are invaded, which means we have space to plant the winter greens! In goes the Mustards, the Lambs Lettuce, the Spring Onions, the Chard and the Spinach. Waiting a bit for the rockets and coriander to get a bit bigger.
Also the first of this years Green manure Field Beans are going in the top bed. That requires a cut back of the Winter Savory.
This is the video about Green Manure and the Joys of Field beans: • All About Green Manure...
Here is a good supplier of Field Beans: amzn.to/3Nrxi9j

🎉🎉 always a bright spot in my day! You weather garden set backs with such grace.
After a busy week…in spite of the rain…on the building site I finally got down to my plot this afternoon…some things to pick and an awful lot of autumn tidying to do😱…but so lovely to be there…and now back home to finally enjoy catching up with Plot 37…hooray😀😀😀
Your music as I open the video is so recognisable it’s equivalent to eastenders Corrie emmerdale🤩etc wouldn’t miss it for the world👍
I sowed my field beans with white mustard seeds into 7 beds. I was wondering why my mustard had come up, but no sign of beans. Today, I opened one of my compost bays to find 5 large stashes of field bean seeds, plus mouse nest with said mice!
Round 2, I gathered them all up and have re planted 😂😂
God you're braver than me!
Always learn new things from you Jessie. Your channel has such a relaxed feel to it even when disaster strikes 😩😡
I would have been heartbroken 💔😭 Glad to see the kitchen going in
Your Ma has a very smart new jacket😀😍
I feel your frustration - I 've never had trouble with rats before but this year is a record year for slugs/bird/rat damage. I've lost endless plants and second plantings and even one of my apple trees which had beautiful large apples - the rats have eaten about 10 apples and courgettes, some at least half of the fruit, others slightly less. It's been a disappointing year on the whole. I pray for a miracle for next year 🙂
…and very many congrats on the new kitchen…yippee😀😀😀Jinxy
Hi Jessie maybe if you put some peppermint oil on cotton wool balls in your tunnel it may keep the rats 🐀 away. It works for mice.
Oh, my goodness! I hope you don’t have the experience to answer 🤞🤞🤞, but is this common for insurance cases? It sounds bananas! Where I live you can choose to either get an insurance payout and organize rebuilding yourself, or have a firm chosen by the insurance do the work. After having a firm deal with minor leak damage in our kitchen, I think we will choose the pay-out next time 😅
I had alot of rats + nests in my garden, i poured mouthwash around the perimeter, now they've not been seen in over 12 months. Mint is probably the best rat deterrent out there could be worth growing a few. My cat used to deal with them but unfortunately lost her 2 years ago.
Slugs, foxes, rats, badgers! It's the same here with fields and the canal surrounding us .Every bed has to be covered except the flowers and squashes courgettes 😏
Hi Jesse, the pesky rats again - grrrrrr. They seem to be like the chicken run film planning how to get into your poly by whatever means! You are one resilient woman, keep up the great work 😊
Thanks again Jessie…you cheer my week. Jessie, never feel bed about camera/sound work……I am glad to follow along with you.
Hi Jessie and your Mum, handy tip on the candle in the greenhouse. Oh no! Your tomatoes have been munched! Hopefully, they will ripen at home 🤞 I grew lettuce & spring onions last season in my polytunnel & was?successful throughout the winter, never thought to grow rocket. Another lovely video. Thanks for sharing and take care 😊
omg how cute was that chicken jump moment😂💚
Hi Jessie, a bit of what might seem a bonkers suggestion.
There are various blocking fabric material which are flexible and contain woven metal.
They are used in wallets and handbags to stop access to credit card data etc.
They are called RFID material.
I thought you might be able to glue or tape to the bottom of your polytunnel plastic and thereby create a stronger barrier.
Also there is something called Faraday fabric.
Take care, Maria
I saw a picture of a tree that someone just cut the top branches off the tree then screwed hanging baskets onto the top and grow in the hanging baskets like normal. Worth a try🤷♀️
glad hearing about your kitchen progress!!! 26 month in chaos, unbelievable. I`m longing for your cooking videos! Hope they are still on your to do list!
They built the Taz Mahal in less time than it took to renovate your kitchen. It looks great.
Field beans, if you struggle to get them, try your local whole food store....... Cheep as chips 👍👍
Wow
That planting is going to look amazing in a few weeks. Really nice to see all those tomatoes 🍅 , hate the rats are getting at them.
Hi Jess. I had a similar problem with a cupboard top, so I got a piece of glass cut to size...looks good, no more persistent painting...problem solved. 🌺
I've. been ripening my tomatoes in brown bags and cardboard boxes with an apple or banana. It seems like apples work best, someone gave me some little apples, so they don't take up as much room.
Love watching your chickens all running to go home, and hopping over the little fence 😁. We aren’t allowed chickens on our plots, so I’m well jealous 😁
Thumbs up Jessie…Last year I followed your advice about field beans…had a wonderful crop this Spring…and have a good stash of field beans and onion to use in soups this winter😀😀😀thank you😀Jinxy
Wonderful video today Jess watch every bit, hope you get rid of that cold as soon as possible keep safe take care❤❤
Lovely video. Always nice to see Lilly the cat.
Lovely to see your kitchen done, it looks really nice, it must be such a relief for it to be usable again.
Sorry about your lovely tomatoes - at least you have rescued some to ripen at home - a very organised operation of putting them all into separate bags, I have lots ripening at home and I check them regularly to make sure none of mine are going off.
I enjoy seeing how everything is coming along each week and I know it takes a lot of work to film and edit all the video so thank you for posting them.
31:00 This was so fun to watch 😄
Lol my kitchen sink's faucet is mixed around too ( hot and cold) been 5hat way since we moved in 8 yrs ago. I'm used to it so it's ok . Jessie, just wanna say that I've been watching your vlogs since your first one and have never missed any ❤ you're my favorite 🍻 ❤ 😊
Another great video. You and your mum are a great team.
My tomatoes ripen very wel in one layer in a cardboard box ( closed). Lots of love from Belgium ❤
Love your kitchen & especially the cabinet you were filling back up: looks great!!!!
Sorry about the 🐀 🐀🐀😢
Who else besides me sees Jessie’s eyes change color to match her clothes?! 😳🩷
Bewitching and fascinating iris quality. Nobody else’s eyes do that that I know of
Yes, beautiful eyes! ❤
Well I'll be, I didn't realise winter savoury was perennial. I'll have to get hold of some next year. Thanks :-)
I took in many of my tomatoes while still green. I popped them in a closed cardboard box. They all ripened beautifully if slowly. The few that didn't I chucked in a batch of tomato sauce, to be lost in the red tomatoes. Good luck!
Chicken wire is designed for keeping rats out of hen houses I believe. I use the stuff to keep the rats out of my veg patches. Seems to work. I would be looking at a door redesign. Also, you might be looking at receipes for green tomato relish.
That winter savoury sounds great.
im dreaming of buttery field bean tops already
So enjoy your content thank you! I just need to remember (hard at 67 lol) to NOT watch potty mouth till after your upload LOL!
Another great video today, Jessie. It's nice to see you are basically back in your kitchen! Thank you for sharing. Take care.
Thursday and Friday nights we had really hard frosts and Saturday wasn't that warm
Just planted out my first lot of tomatoes this spring. Finger crossed no frosts!!!!
Hi Jessie, oh my, I am so very happy for you and Mum, that the kitchen Odyssey seems to come to an end! Ours is still a bit unsorted, can´t even remember where I had put things but slowly I unpack the boxes. Sorry for the rats, that is so enoying! I have always a massiv affit problem in the garden, your recommented purple sprouting broccoli is about a meter high but so full of them, that I do not see the appeal to get them. Did the broad beans this year and prepared it for the hussie accoding to your video, he loved it. (Seeds will likely arrive next week). Best S.
hi Jessie green tomato chutney is nice love vlogs very best wishes to mum and yourself xx
You are inspirational. Thank you. SW Washington State, zone 8b. Just letting the last of the Mortgage Lifters put a little bit of red on them and then I will pick. Japanese trifele, Sun Golds, and MLs this year. Decent crop. Yum. And I've begun to watch Potty Mouth Garden Club. Such fun.
Might try some field beans as I tidy my borders, going to the garden centre on Thursday - probably for the last time this year 😢.
Decided to treat myself to some Containerwise seed trays ready for spring (long way off, I know), much cheaper to buy direct if you want a few 😂. Impressed with the quality.
Windowsill in the living room is now green tomato city 😂.
Brilliant as usual, kitchen looks fab 🎉
Great advice on the field beans, will follow your example
I spat my wine out at “Tupac”. Lately been revisiting my Eminem years again, having a good old rap to myself on my Plot.
Who says growing veg and offensive gangsta rap doesn’t go together. 😂
Oh Jessie! Watch the chickens with those rats. Theyre looking for protein at this time of year and will kill indiscriminately, I know from experience. And often they just leave the poor chickens! And they can get thru the tiniest wire etc. A squirrel got thru small square wire in my cattery recently after the bird food. And it doesn't matter how high, they can jump. Try sprinkling a bit of used cat litter from home, they don't like the small.
Sending love & light 🍁🍂🍁🍂xx
You always amaze me Jess. You have good luck when it comes to replanting your cuttings. Im lucky if i get a 50/50 sucess rate. Plus i love watching you do things. Even in my older age i am learning new things from you. Thank you for all you do.
BTW the chicken jump was the best!!!
Fox them off !!! 🤣
Flea bay heavy duty terry tool clips might be what you need.
Brilliant as always Jessie ❤️
Fantastisch Good work Jessie you the best te moostiun te planting te Compost thé kruiden stekken winter greens thans te video Top week 🌺🤗👍🌿🧤🍁🌤️🌰🌱🍅
Thanks!
Hello Jessie, RATS grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr maybe you need a rat terrier?? Plot Guardian Dog! 20° C is nice fall weather. Too bad about some of the tomatoes al least you do have some for yourself. So happy to see how nice the kitchen is looking as you continue to final touches. This week we will be 22° C to 26° C so getting lots done to clean up and prepare for winter. Nice video today Cya next week, Steven
Rats!!! Could you bag the tomatoes you need to protect? I use gauze bags and the rats didn't get them so could be worth a try. Good luck.
put your tomatoes with a banana there something in the banana that helps things ripen
Great vid Jessie .
Great video Jessie . You could try putting your night camera in the poly tunnel just to check what those rats are planning
Came across your channel and loved it. Hello from the US…I subscribed
Jessie, do you ever cook with green tomatoes? Because I lack greenehouse space I have to grow a lot of my tomatoes outside therefore succumbing to lack of sunshine and blight. Thankfully no rats 🤣 But I do harvest a lot of green tomatoes and finding recipes to use them has been a game changer. Green tomatoes are delicious ♥
Do your taps have Indices? They are the bits on top of your tap heads that indicate hot or cold. You might be able to swap them over instead of re-fixing the whole tap fittings. They can be removed carefully with a small fine flat screwdriver.
So sorry about the rat damage 💔 what about a frame of chicken mesh over the bottom of the door ?
Fantastisch Good work jessie you the best te moostuin te planting te compost kruiden steken oogsten the Tomatoes te oktober winter greens thans te video Top weekend 👌🍂☕️🌤🌿🧤🫘🍅
Love what you are doing.
Spray the door and tomatoes and with Carolina Reaper oil!
A quick suggestion re the rats breaking into the polytunnel. Might it be an idea to chicken wire the inside walls of the structure so in case they chew through the sides they won't be able to make it all the way in.
I know your door style is for both convenience and space saving but it might be time to review your door style to a more rat proof one of plastic and chicken wire type combo??? Maybe a bi-fold idea??
I need a glass of wine now. Cheers
I personally prefer the sound without your personal mic. Keeps all the rustling on clothes down and no sniffles☺️
I believe you have grow lites in that room behind you, suspend something from the ceiling to hold the tomatoes, pointing the lites up?? Worth a go..
Plan B. With any leftover seed. cook them. They are delicious
6:07 your lovely herb getting cut looks like my germander when i cut it back this time of year & attach it to a good stick to make a witch's broom decoration. Lol.
Big house then 😮
Wow just rake them in 😮
Simple rat trap that doesn't use poison.
1 bucket you drill two hole opposite sides
1 pop/soda can you drill opposite holes slightly off centre
1 rod (steel heavy gauge wire will do)
Push rod into one side of bucket, through the can then outside the bucket.
I put tape or a piece of plastic on the outside rod ends to keep it from falling down.
Make sure can spins, add peanut butter on side of can, fill bucket with water enough to drown.
Suggest this contraption is placed away from food sources (near water butt for example).
Rats need to get to top of bucket, so some kind of makeshift ramps will help.
Rat goes up, smells peanut butter, goes to munch, can spins, rat is in the water.
There are commercial versions with trap doors instead of cans, but the idea is the same.
Two or three set around the garden in somewhat private locations should be good.
Mice, rats and voles are attracted. But I'm not sure about hedgehogs, we don't have any.
Don't forget to empty the bucket 🪣. The only issue is where to dispose.
great video i would get a cage live trap and relocate them out in the country side or deal with them how you wish
Bloomin rats again! They are determined I will give them that. The girlies look so fab and happy and the little jump over the fence into their house, so cute! Cheers to 20C this week! Could do with a bit of heat. Not liking this cold and neither are my chillis!
Yes, that jump always makes me smile!
Oh no, rats yuk.
My best friend is a doctor. She said the current main strain of cold going around seems to hang on for a very long time. I’ve had my cough for nine weeks so far. It’s insane! But not dangerous if you don’t have medical complexities. Just annoying. Look into Mullein complex. It heals lung issues. (Not medical advice lol)
Well, you might consider trapping the little bastards since you have so much left. By trap, not the live variety. Did you know chickens will sometimes eat mice…. Or temporarily fortifying the door till everything is out. Just a thought. A little jealous of your cool weather but here in Texas until tomorrow when it is supposed to cool off!!!😊
for your clips try its they are very good i have found
Your Nerines looked beautiful 😁 but you really do suffer from the wildlife 😖
i froze my thai basil as it was suffering too , just enough in the freezer for one tagine hehe
Don’t forget to order the Velcro tape! RATS🚫‼️
Hello Jessie is Hannah from ginger grows still making. Videos on RUclips from her garden allotment I have not seen her in a long time, is she keeping okay.
Thanks Jessie it would be nice to hear a update from her.
You seem to have a problem with Ratatouille. 🤣
Rats and insurance companies! I know them both.
I feel for you. I sowed kale seeds four times before I gave up. The mice ate the seedlings every time. Very annoying
You must be relieved to get your kitchen back. Sorry about the rats again. How is your kitten these days?
Could you repurpose the the nets that were on the pears?
What about ripening your tomatoes under the germination lights? I did some under mine and I think it helped them do quicker.
Gawd you've realy had your fair share of pests this year 😢
A ripe banana gives off a certain gas that aids in the ripening of tomatoes.
Lovely bowls on the bottom shelf in the Welsh dresser. Did you make those?
