Good afternoon, Jerry! Thanks for the walk-thru in Canva. It is always good to refresh my introduction to such a great design platform that I use everyday... Looking forward to your new videos!... ✨😎✨
Hi, How do I put in a text box (with a color - say black) add white lettering and move it around. I tried shapes but I didn't see just a plane rectangle.
Excellent video thanks! I see a way in canva to eliminate a background. But is there a way to eliminate it to where it's no longer a square picture frame but now instead a cut out of the person that you can paste over or onto another picture or background?
I understand what you're asking now. I don't think there is a way to do that - everything in Canva has a square frame. But it won't show up in your final design. It's just there for moving/resizing/cropping.
@@mrjerrypotter ahhh well that's too bad. Somebody from Canva emailed me a question asking what I would like to see improved RE Photos Pro. I mentioned this problem. Maybe they'll work it out. There's a need.

If I'm making a power point presentation, what template would I use (or pixel size, or whatever I need to make it the right size to fit the screen)? I know you showed the option for a presentation but your example was a square.

Hi Jerry, I am a Newbie on Canva and I greatly enjoyed the above freebie you made just for us. Thanks a bunch. A quick question: How do I get the web based pro version to open a page I designed on the IOS Canva app. Though the page shows up in my design folder, the moment I click on it to edit, the page opens up in the App, which has limitations. Sheikh

This info was great! I have a question since I am a newbie. If I take a picture of an item for my on-line store, how to I make the background disappear?
Great video!!!! Subbed. Concise. / Question: Jerry, if we wanted to empower our 108 field offices to customize a canva post by, say, typing in the city name and posting it to the regional Craigslist how would we help them do that? Is that what a template stored on the cloud canva is for or not? Thanks sgain.
Hi Louis! Assuming each office has their own Canva account, you could share it with all of them by creating a link to a template they can copy. Hit Share at the top right of the screen on a computer to generate the link.
Hey Jerry thanks. This really helps. I was just checking if there is any way to make a grid in Canva like excel and put information or import information in excel into Canva. Looking to make a catalogue for my business and this format would really help. Is there something like this in Canva ?
Hi Jerry loved the video, I learnt more in that than trying to do the actual Canva tutorials. One question - here is my example of what I am trying to do - let's say I have a Canva template of Christmas decorations with the baubles on the top right corner and bottom left corner. I want to put an image of a family member inside the baubles but still keep the bauble but the photo is more transparent. When I add the photo it stays on top of the bauble as a rectangle so doesn't blend into the bauble and the edges go outside of the bauble. I just want the photo to be a part of the bauble. I hope that makes sense?
I think I know what you're asking. You should be able to select the photo, then click "Position" at the top. This is where you can move it behind the other parts of the image.
What is the best way to make a copy of a design and then change the wording? I want to make many testimonials of the same design so they look consistant in my instagram. There seems to be a few ways to do this but sometimes it shows up weird.
Depends on what it's for. JPG is good for websites because of the smaller file size. PNG allows for transparent backgrounds (you might have to have the paid version for this). PDF is good for printing.
Not in the way you are describing. This is more of a graphic design program. You'll likely need software like Photoshop to get that precise with photo editing.
Hey Jerry. I am new to Canva and using it to create IG posts. If I create an IG post with several pages, what is the easiest way to upload with all those pages to IG to create a post? I ended up downloading what I created (instead of just sharing directly from Canva to IG), which created several images (png). Then I went to IG and uploaded the pictures from there-because I couldn't figure out how to upload multiple pictures directly from Canva. I do hope it is lack of knowledge on my side and that the extra step I did is unnecessary. Any suggestions?
To be honest I haven't spent a lot of time with posting directly from Canva, but I can tell you this - Instagram only allows you to schedule from 3rd party apps for single images and videos, not multiple image posts (carousels).
thank jerry 4 this. Just wondering how can i create a template that i can ALWAYS use for any of my social media posts i.e i just want to come in and use a template that i created on canva so i can quickly put my image and it fits right in without having to adjust it manually all the time. Kindly tell me how to do it. It will save me SO much TIME. 🙏🏾. Thanks
When you login to Canva it will show you your previous designs. You can just have one called Instagram Template, Facebook Template, etc. Then just open it and put the new image in. If you want to preserve any, you can copy it (there's a little copy button above each "page" in your design). Then just edit the copy.
@@mrjerrypotter Thanks for that jerry 🙏🏾! Is there a perfect template dimension size that you would recommend. That would work across the board (social media platforms) best?
They're all a little different. For Facebook & Instagram I try and do 1080 x 1350 because it takes up the most screen space on mobile. Square is decent on LinkedIn, and wider images are less likely to get cropped on Twitter.
@@mrjerrypotter Hey jerry just a quick question...there is a font that is called "nova round" but i cannot find it in canva. Is there a font that u know that is closest to this? 😬 thanks
Hello, Thanks for a good overview video. Wondering which template is most suitable to choose if you want to make a 12-page brochure and want to create all 12 pages in canva, i.e. not just a cover page, but the entire brochure.? I would then like to send the entire completed 12-page brochure for printing. How can I get an idea of what it will look like before deciding to print eg 1000 pcs?
Canva has HUNDREDS of templates so there is no way I can recommend one, especially since design is so subjective. As far as printing, you can order prints from inside Canva, or you can download it as a PDF and take it to a printer. Good luck with your project!
Hello, I'm a Realtor and would like to create some just listed or just sold and other Real Estate flyers on Canva. Do you happen to have a video (beginning 101) that shows you how to create a Facebook Flyer by adding photos of the property and adding text with property info and personalizing as well using one of the templates offered by Canva? I tried doing it my self but couldn't figure out how to replace an image, add text, add my personal info and save it. I appreciate any help that you can offer me. Thank you!
Hey Cathy! To replace an image in a template you should be able to just upload it, then drag it to where the current photo is. Text has its own button on the left as shown in the video. Unfortunately I don't have a full tutorial beyond this one, but hopefully those point you in the right direction?
Great tutorial thank you! How do I save my work after altering a template? I tried saving it and it just goes back to looking like the original template if I either close the workspace or click onto the second page (2of2).
You can't necessarily have your own "templates," but your design saves. When you are on the home screen (right after logging in) you should see all your designs by scrolling down. If you titled them you can also search for them. But they will not come up in the Templates section.
You should be able to simply click on the image and hit delete, then drag a new image in. I usually make a copy of it first in case I mess up the original.
with present do you always have to actually go to canva.com in order to preset infront of the class, like can it be done offline if so then How ? many thanks Dan
I haven't used Canva for presentations (I prefer Google Slides), but I'm guessing you have to be online unless you downloaded the slides as PDFs or something.
I have searched for hours through countless tutorials to find out one simple thing...How do you get a coloured rectangle to put your text into for a RUclips thumbnail as I see the big RUclipsrs doing? I've seen the rectangles on Canva under shapes but I can' find out how to change the background colour of that rectangle..not the whole background of the thumbnail.
Hi Dee! If you add the rectangle to your design, you should just be able to click the color chooser box at the top to change the color. It should be to the left of "Crop" on the upper left? This applies if you are using something from the Shapes section. Some design elements don't allow you to change the colors though.
@@mrjerrypotter thanks for getting back to me. I actually watched tutorial after tutorial that day and found someone who happened to click that button while she was doing something else and the picture was actually close enough so that I could visually see what she did.
Great video, Jerry - thank you. I'm new to Canva after years on PicMonkey. I like this better. Here's a question though ... I've created a tri-fold brochure for a client. She would like to be able to do any simple edits it down the road in case they change their phone number or something. I see that Canva lets me download as a .png or a .pdf, but those aren't editable, are they? Do you know how I could transfer my editable file from my Canva to hers so she can edit it in the future? I explained that she could open a free Canva account to do that.
Hi Jerry. It is nice to watch how well you are explaining Canva. I want to purchase Canva, however I have an issue. Basically, I want to be able to write in my mother tongue language, which is Kurdish. My language is written the same way as Arabic and Farsi. Canva does accept the language, however when it is downloaded, it does not recognise it, which find it very strange. I am not on a paid version, therefore it is difficult to confirm whether it would be as same or perhaps accept it.
How do I find out if I can sell an image I created in canva? I know there are copyright laws but I'm not sure which designs can be created and then sold. (More info - I'm interested in creating printable stickers for planners and journals to be sold and I am, of course, wanting to be legal and above board in that effort.)
Very helpful, thank you! However, which would you recommend for newbies (adobe spark or canva 2.0) in creating instagram stories, facebook stories, twitter, youtube thumbnails, youtube banner, etc?
Glad it was helpful! If you're considering the paid version of Canva, I recently put out a video comparing the free and paid versions: ruclips.net/video/vm2twBDn8nc/видео.html
I have gotten a lot better with canva usage overall but I see designs that have diff colors fade into each other or two different patterns (I use canva design templates for my photobooth) any suggestions?
That is a newer feature that has come out since this video was made - They are releasing new features all the time! Under elements search for 'gradients.'
Hi Felixia! I use a program called Camtasia where you can record your computer screen. There are lots of similar programs out there - just look for something that offers Screen Recording.
You're a great presenter! BUT The difficulties im having getting canva designs onto my FB page defy description.
I wrote a 3-page giveaway post in canva (about 5 hours work) and cant figure out how to get it to be published on FB after downloading it.
The 3 pp. are in my download file on my drive but there seems to be NO WAY to move them into FB.
Canva says to click the white arrow to download the design and then place it on FB as a photo, but there are 3 related designs. I got one of the photos on as a post but I cant control the size, its huge, even tho in canva it displays properly. The download seems to have blown up and I can’t resize it.
It’s frustrating in the extreme to invest so many hours and end up with Nada. There was a note on canva regarding their inability to sync with facebook. But the workaround is failing.
I guess I will just have to forget about using canva and try to make my pix look good doing them direct. I was hoping you might have something to say about this, since the only reason i would have for using canva is to have access to all the bells & wissles!
Hey Jane! Sorry this has been so frustrating. Without seeing your screen I'm not sure what the problem could be but I hope you are finding a workaround.

That's a feature in Canva Pro, and here's how it works: www.canva.com/learn/background-remover/
How do you adjust colors of adstract shapes ? When I paste my photo in it's square.
If the shape you're using can have it's color changed, you'll see the color selection box on the upper left above your design.

I am looking to create a banner for linkedin. How do i do that. Do you have a step by step guide?
Could I please ask how to change the colour of a Graphic picture? I'm trying to just turn a Mandala white vs. black & white with a blue background?
Hey Debbie! That's a more complex process and I don't think there's a good way to do that in Canva. Sorry I don't have a better answer!
I was hoping to see how to resize.. not with the tab that says Resize but just change the scale and keep the original crop
If you resize with the same ratio (for example it's still 16:9 or 4:5) it should keep the same crop.

😬 thanks
Hello,
Thanks for a good overview video.
Great video Jerry Thank You.
Glad you enjoyed it!
How do I get photos on my computer and these Canva projects actually posted on my Instagram?
This is really good. Thanks so much sir.
You're welcome!
why does the text dfisappear after I type it?
Without seeing your screen I couldn't tell you for sure, but is the color of the text the same as your background?
This was sooo helpful thank you so much!!!!
Glad it was helpful Ben!
You're a wizard, Jerry.
😁
Great post Jerry. Got any advice or tips for drawing a picture/illustration on canva? (i.e. Stick figure man)...is it even possible? Total newbee.
Strangely I don't believe there is! It's more about combining elements into design rather than drawing from scratch.
Am using Canva for Constant Contact, how do I gage the size?
Hi Barbara! I'm not following your question - can you rephrase?
But they will not come up in the Templates section.
thanks love the helpful information
Glad it was helpful Yvonne!
Thank you for this tutorial. I know how to add words to a picture to do infographics, but how do you keep the same words but use a different picture?
You should be able to simply click on the image and hit delete, then drag a new image in. I usually make a copy of it first in case I mess up the original.
Five Minute Social Media - Jerry Potter I do the same thing too!!
😁
how to do add your company URL website to click on automatically
To a graphic? You can't do that. If you are creating a PDF though you can add a clickable URL.
with present do you always have to actually go to canva.com in order to preset infront of the class, like can it be done offline if so then How ? many thanks Dan
Glad to hear! Sorry it wasn't clear originally.
Thank you! I'm now making my thumbnails much more easily on Canva!
Awesome Dee, glad it was helpful!
You can send it to her via email - just make sure you send it as an editable design:

Hi Jerry. How do I type with multiple colors. Please guide me on that thanks
Canva offers free trials, so I'd suggest signing up for a free trial and you can test it: fiveminutesocialmedia.com/canva
How do I find out if I can sell an image I created in canva? I know there are copyright laws but I'm not sure which designs can be created and then sold. (More info - I'm interested in creating printable stickers for planners and journals to be sold and I am, of course, wanting to be legal and above board in that effort.)
Hey Linda - I don't know the answer to that (nor am I a lawyer), but great question!
Very helpful, thank you! However, which would you recommend for newbies (adobe spark or canva 2.0) in creating instagram stories, facebook stories, twitter, youtube thumbnails, youtube banner, etc?
It's kind of a personal preference - try them both!
This was really helpful. Thank you
Glad it was helpful Lucy!
Great video for a relative new comer to instagram.
Five Minute Social Media - Jerry Potter thnx a bunch just used it to test it
Great!
Great tutorial! I have a question, how did you make your video with you talking and the background of your design?
Hi Felixia! I use a program called Camtasia where you can record your computer screen. There are lots of similar programs out there - just look for something that offers Screen Recording.
Hi, great video. I was interested in animating font in my images but can't figure out how to do this! Any ideas? thanks
When you download it you can choose to download it as a GIF or MP4 and it will animate it. Options are limited but it might work for your needs.
Great tutorial.
Thanks!
Thank you very much!!
You're welcome!
Without seeing your screen I'm not sure what the problem could be but I hope you are finding a workaround.
thanks. you got a tutorial on making the a FB profile pic, i have a logo and its hard to get it the correct size :)
I do! ruclips.net/video/MRGsu2gMtD8/видео.html
Put a link in part om my graphic...does it mean hyperlink as an option?
You can add a hyperlink if you're saving it as a PDF.
@@mrjerrypotter You seem to mean :if my save my created graphic on canvas as a PDF..right?
Correct.
