I lost my grandpa to dementia, I considered him my dad. I helped him every day up until his last day. Over the course of about 2 years I saw a well-respected WW2 veteran, one of the smartest, most dignified people I knew turn into a blubbering shell of himself. He passed in 2012. He was my world. I know nothing I can say will help, but I know that one day, it will be ok. I know because I made it, I attempted something, and I’m still here. I told myself I couldn’t leave his legacy up to anyone else. Margaret is such a beautiful name, my aunt’s name was Maggie, and she was also my best friend. You’re such a strong, intelligent and level-headed person Mike, and I’m sure that’s from her. Take some time to grieve. You owe us(your followers) absolutely nothing. Find your new center and, when you’re ready, come back a stronger, more resilient and even better version of yourself. Stay strong friend ❤️ You’re loved. ❤️

When my grandfather (who raised me) died from complications from dementia and COPD, I was heavily pregnant and couldn't be with him in the respiratory wing because of risk to my baby. The guilt was unbelievable. It was only months later that I realized that my not being there was a gift of sorts. I was watching a documentary about a man with ALS who was traveling to Dignitas to be euthanized rather than letting the disease take it's brutal course. His adult son was upset that his father didn't want him there when he died. The man's reason for why has changed my view. He said "I love you so much. You ARE my life. If you are in the room, I won't ever be able to let go." I ugly cried when he said it because it made so much sense. I know my grandfather was the same way. When we parted, we had spent a great weekend together that ended with us singing the old songs of his Irish childhood (one of the last things he could do with his dying brain). That is how he would want me to remember him. Perhaps, if the Universe really did have a hand in it, your mother was the same? Perhaps she wants you to remember her happy, smiling and able to tell you she loves you? Perhaps her spirit couldn't make that transition while you were in the room?
Oh sweetheart, I'm so sorry. She had to be amazing to have raised you. 💜 We are all here for you, and please reach out any time, we will be here for you. If i can give some unsolicited advice with the intention of bringing some comfort- Ive lost a lot of people, and I witnessed my best friend lose his mom very horribly. The hole they leave when they pass never goes away. Its always there but it does get easier as you go on. The way I see it, they aren’t really gone. They live alongside you until your own end. Feel the pain and the anger and the sorrow for what it is and don’t push it away, take the time you need to properly grieve. Don’t isolate yourself, reach out to people and rant and cry when you need to. And reminisce about all the good times:) thats always helpful. Take care of yourself and your family.💛

Oh Mike I’m so sorry, I know there’s no words that can help heal the pain you’re feeling. I lost my dad suddenly in February & my heart feels broken, I’m a daddy’s girl, always have always will be. Your mom must be so proud of you, because you are a lovely person inside & out. My heart is breaking for you, that you are in isolation so you can’t be at the funeral, but your mom is with you & she knows how much you love & care for her. Please be kind to yourself, cry when you need to, scream if you need to, talk to us anytime if you want to & laugh without feeling guilty if you can. Oh Mike, I'm so so so very sorry. Words are nothing at a time like this but just know you are not alone. It feels very surreal for me to watch this video. My dad died one week ago today, he just went to sleep and never woke up.. they think it was a stroke. It was so sudden, he'd had a rough few years and had early onset dementia but was only 65 and it all feels so unfair. I also feel it's a blessing to not have to watch them drag on and suffer but it doesn't make the pain go away. When it's sudden it is hard on us but easier on them and even though I'm lost and broken I'd take that any day over having my dad suffer. Your mom sounds like an amazing person, she has to be because she made you. I'll tell you what I told my sisters.. they're never really gone, every time you look in the mirror she's right there and she will be with you always because she's a part of you. I've watched you for years and I see a strength in you that will get you through this.. take time to care for yourself, let yourself feel all of the emotions and work your way through them. Weirdly enough though I know she is still with me. I see her in my own face at times when I look in the mirror or hear her when I laugh. I started gravitating towards the color red, it was her favorite color, when my favorite color had always been green. Among other things I see or hear everyday. Wish I could say it will get easier, but it hasn’t for me. Instead, I am sending you positive energy to lift and hold you up as you navigate these uncharted waters. Take care of yourself. It’s ok to cry. It is the price of loving someone and being loved in return! 💔

I’m so sorry. I lost my mum a free months back and I’m still in shock. I have she died during this time as due to covid, she was on her own. No one could sit with her. So I really feel your pain. Please don’t feel guilty. We cannot control these things. I look at it like our mums are in heaven & nothing can cause them any pain or suffering anymore. To lose your mum is the worst kind of pain but I promise it does start to lift a little day by day. All il say is I bet your mum is so so proud of you, and what you have achieved. Im so sorry Mike 😥 When I lost my Dad it was very sudden, I was only 21, it was 5 days before Christmas. I was supposed to be with him that day but I decided to do some last minute Christmas shopping… I blamed myself for so long (so did my Mom for not being home) I know how it feels to not get to say goodbye… it helped me some to just talk to him like he could hear me, like he was listening from heaven or in the room with me (you might feel a bit silly at 1st but it helps) Please try not to beat yourself about things. It does get “easier” over time but It’s been over 10 years now since my Dad passed & I still think of him every day. Some days are still hard… Im here crying with you!💗 She is in the air you breathe, the sun, the moon, the trees, the grass. She’s is with you. She lives on in you! Through you she lives on. I’m so sorry for you loss. It’s not easy being someone who sees death coming from a mile away. The last time I saw my grandma on my dads side of the family as we drove home once my kids were asleep in the back of our car I looked at my husband. I said to him “ I feel bad saying this but I think this is the last time we are going to see her.” After that I cried for a while. That moment happened in August and in November she passed away. I cried for days on end after that. It’s so hard but cherish you memories of her as they say time heals all wounds some just take longer to heal than others.
Sending a trunk full of hugs, a kettle full of tea and a quilt. It's early here. The sun is just at the edge of rising and I just finished listening. Wishing I could hand you a plate of fresh baked cookies, a gesture to try to bring comfort to the place where your standing. *hugs* it’s hard. And it’s going to be hard. That spot in your heart feels so empty and gone that you don’t know what to do. But at the same time you feel her warmth and love that it’s almost to the point of tears. I couldn’t see my mom either. I couldn’t be there for her last moments and that is always going to be our shadow. But please Mike, our mothers understood and still love us from the day they heard our heartbeats til the end of time. “Love the thing that you most wish had not happened.” Grief is the most sacred thing in this world. And, let’s both just continue to be the most human we can.
I'm so sorry. That pain, that feeling of never just punching a hole right in your chest is one I know. But it won't always feel ....like this, one day it'll be bitter sweet and the memories warm. And as I was told by the only real mother I ever had, you're a legacy and a testament to the ones who loved you, and from watching you you're the legacy of someone with a wonderful heart and amazing humor. I know it hurts and I'm sorry. At 42 my mom at 50 my Dad. I'm 52 There is no way anyone can know what you feel. We all are different, so no one knows you pain. But I can say I kind of understand that peace. My father went due to a stroke that was due to Alzheimer's/Dementia. But give yourself ALL the time you need to mourn cause it will wait for you. No mater what you still feel like a orphan, no matter how old you are. I still had my Dad when mine passed but you still feel like your alone for a long time. The pain doesn't go away buy you just learn to live with it. She is free from that darkness. Love you Mike. PS. Try to get some sleep. That's the first thing to go at this time.

Her eventual decline was so fast (7 weeks) so I know what you mean about the sense of relief at not watching a gradual deterioration but it doesn't make it easier. Oh Mike I’m so sorry, I know there’s no words that can help heal the pain you’re feeling. I lost my dad suddenly in February & my heart feels broken, I’m a daddy’s girl, always have always will be. Your mom must be so proud of you, because you are a lovely person inside & out. My heart is breaking for you, that you are in isolation so you can’t be at the funeral, but your mom is with you & she knows how much you love & care for her.

Oh Mike, I'm so so so very sorry. Words are nothing at a time like this but just know you are not alone. It feels very surreal for me to watch this video. My dad died one week ago today, he just went to sleep and never woke up.. they think it was a stroke. It was so sudden, he'd had a rough few years and had early onset dementia but was only 65 and it all feels so unfair. I also feel it's a blessing to not have to watch them drag on and suffer but it doesn't make the pain go away. When it's sudden it is hard on us but easier on them and even though I'm lost and broken I'd take that any day over having my dad suffer. Your mom sounds like an amazing person, she has to be because she made you. I'll tell you what I told my sisters.. they're never really gone, every time you look in the mirror she's right there and she will be with you always because she's a part of you. I've watched you for years and I see a strength in you that will get you through this.. take time to care for yourself, let yourself feel all of the emotions and work your way through them. Remember the happy times and live your best life for you and for her. I'm sending you lots of love from the other side of the world ❤

My sincerest condolences on your loss Mike. Your mum may not be with you on this physical plain, but she will always be with you in spirit. I lost my mom in 2008 & miss her everyday. Weirdly enough though I know she is still with me. I see her in my own face at times when I look in the mirror or hear her when I laugh. I started gravitating towards the color red, it was her favorite color, when my favorite color had always been green. Among other things I see or hear everyday. Wish I could say it will get easier, but it hasn’t for me. Instead, I am sending you positive energy to lift and hold you up as you navigate these uncharted waters. Take care of yourself. I’m so sorry. I lost my mum a free months back and I’m still in shock. I have she died during this time as due to covid, she was on her own. No one could sit with her. So I really feel your pain. Please don’t feel guilty. We cannot control these things. I look at it like our mums are in heaven & nothing can cause them any pain or suffering anymore. To lose your mum is the worst kind of pain but I promise it does start to lift a little day by day. All il say is I bet your mum is so so proud of you, and what you have achieved. She’s def raised a great kid into a great man. 🙏❤️

Im so sorry Mike 😥 When I lost my Dad it was very sudden, I was only 21, it was 5 days before Christmas. I was supposed to be with him that day but I decided to do some last minute Christmas shopping… I blamed myself for so long (so did my Mom for not being home)
I know how it feels to not get to say goodbye… it helped me some to just talk to him like he could hear me, like he was listening from heaven or in the room with me (you might feel a bit silly at 1st but it helps)
Please try not to beat yourself about things. It does get “easier” over time but It’s been over 10 years now since my Dad passed & I still think of him every day. Some days are still hard…

I’m so sorry for you loss. It’s not easy being someone who sees death coming from a mile away. The last time I saw my grandma on my dads side of the family as we drove home once my kids were asleep in the back of our car I looked at my husband. I said to him “ I feel bad saying this but I think this is the last time we are going to see her.” After that I cried for a while. That moment happened in August and in November she passed away. I cried for days on end after that. It’s so hard but cherish you memories of her as they say time heals all wounds some just take longer to heal than others.

It's early here. The sun is just at the edge of rising and I just finished listening. Wishing I could hand you a plate of fresh baked cookies, a gesture to try to bring comfort to the place where your standing. *hugs* it’s hard. And it’s going to be hard. That spot in your heart feels so empty and gone that you don’t know what to do. But at the same time you feel her warmth and love that it’s almost to the point of tears.
I couldn’t see my mom either. I couldn’t be there for her last moments and that is always going to be our shadow. But please Mike, our mothers understood and still love us from the day they heard our heartbeats til the end of time.

Grief is the most sacred thing in this world. And, let’s both just continue to be the most human we can.
I'm so sorry. That pain, that feeling of never just punching a hole right in your chest is one I know.
But it won't always feel ....like this, one day it'll be bitter sweet and the memories warm.
And as I was told by the only real mother I ever had, you're a legacy and a testament to the ones who loved you, and from watching you you're the legacy of someone with a wonderful heart and amazing humor.
And I hope you know that you aren't alone in your pain.
I know it hurts and I'm sorry. At 42 my mom at 50 my Dad. I'm 52 There is no way anyone can know what you feel. We all are different, so no one knows you pain. But I can say I kind of understand that peace. My father went due to a stroke that was due to Alzheimer's/Dementia. But give yourself ALL the time you need to mourn cause it will wait for you.
No mater what you still feel like a orphan, no matter how old you are. I still had my Dad when mine passed but you still feel like your alone for a long time. The pain doesn't go away buy you just learn to live with it.
She is free from that darkness. Love you Mike.
PS. Try to get some sleep. That's the first thing to go at this time.
