For all their knowledge and power, I think there is a strong tragic undertone to the Mechanicus: they don't truly understand the things they know. They grew up in the shadow of a civilization far greater than their own, their entire existence a catch-up game spanning millennia, driven and fueled by a creed purpose-built to withstand this perpetual sense of inferiority and lack of meaningful progress in the day-to-day life of each individual. Zeal over despair, so that while we and everyone we know might suffer and toil a lifetime, one of us might see a brighter future - and that, I believe, is the essence of 40k.
I would agree, their is a tragic undertone to the AdMec that serves as a metaphor and maybe a cautionary tale for civilisation, progress, tyranny and the descent into religious fanaticism. Enlightened ideology is very fragile, and as the Emperor has shown, perhaps too fragile to last. Such is the human condition.
This is why the Vaporwave movement is so popular. This sentiment mirrored in a generation longing for a time they never knew, and only know of through twice and thrice removed generational experience.
The mechanicus exist at a level of scientific understanding way beyond our own. They can replicate any modern day tech easily. The stuff they need all the cargo cult rituals for is DAoT stuff. Technology created by generations of AI. They're also empowered by the Void Dragon. STC tech is just finding a hellraiser puzzle box made by Apple that will create anything you want, as long as it isn't corrupted.
The void dragons necron name Is “Eater of Knowledge…” so Mars’ unknowing worship is likely a result of the gradual consumption of knowledge by the void dragon.

04:04 It is important to note that the Dark age of Technology is not called dark because it is dangerous, forbidden or feared but simply that it is mostly unknown. Hence the name dark. The Adeptus Mechanicus wants to rediscover all the lost technology from the Dark Age of Technology when mankind reached it zenith of power and mastery of technology. Further support for this is found in the fact that it is also referred to as the Golden Age of Technology.
That's not the canon interpretation I've heard, it was "dark" because from the view point of M40 time period mankind was enslaved to the AIs so it was a dark time, hence "Dark Age of Technology"
@@manw3bttcks Humanity was not enslaved by the A.I. (Abominable Intelligence in Warhammer 40k) known as "The Men of Iron" but fought an apocalyptic war against it which they narrowly won but lost nearly all their technology and knowledge.
@@inconspicuousiceberg9363It was my understanding that it was referred to as the dark age because of the rise of AI, the mistake humans made in allowing it far too much control and the apocalyptic war that followed. This is a great question. I would welcome other people to chip in. The Blood Angels series on warhammer plus gives us a glimpse into this. I hope that helps.
Hey. I dabble in 40K but am not an expert. Thinking about the Adeptus Mechanicus and came up with this thought. Do you see any validity here? Maybe we address one or part of this? Mechanicus Chat I was thinking about how the Adeptus Mechanicus revere humanity, souls, and prayer, and it didn’t add up to me, if they’re focused on technology and mechanical augmentations that make them cyborgs. It just contradicted itself too much, and I began to think about the Necron, and other beings that have no purpose for flesh. The Necron being their scripted enemy needs an opposing philosophy to justify the purpose of them being feared and loathed. Necrons place value on the benefits of when one does abandone mortal constraints, which means inorganic computation supremacy as a world view and mission is fundamentally bothersome to the Adeptus Mechanicus. Thinking more, it reminded me of the Renaissance Period in Art History. You see, the Mechanicus are fighting to bring back some kind of golden era in both their revival of technology and lost philosophies dominating the universe. In the non fiction Italian Renaissance, there was a goal to bring back the ways and celebrate the arts of some time too far to tangibly revisit. Lacking clues they had to fill the gaps that left a lot of room for interpretation. The Church funded these artworks, so the political and ideological messages were made by them. Which now, is reminding me of how the mechanicus worship the Omnisiah and demand their religious structure be taken seriously. So with this task of being the retriever of what’s lost with the funding and motives of the church (in both cases), the Renaissance artists and Mechanicum are rewriting history to suit their contemporary political space, which was slowly shifting from religious to scientific, again in both examples. The church fearing this impending switch had a lot of money to throw at propagandizing its own importance, and I think that’s what the Necron represent to these archivists and tech priests. There now faces the lesser contradiction because the real Renaissance was focused on worshiping the humanities, which was not opposed to religious thought, but provides an alternative. You can’t be that devoted if you’re learning Galilean principles of heliocentrism, breaking the pages of theocracy placing your existence in the dead center of the relevant universe. The church was in favor of a main character syndrome than the humanities, which may say otherwise. That maybe the stage of playas has many groups with equal or greater significance to them or their god. It could be that the exact pages of philosophy that were lost were destroyed from an earlier mission of the church to eradicate them. I guess now they want to revive them, now that their flex to do so is documented. Strangely enough it was from Arabic influences that many of the lost Greek writing were rediscovered, and it’s odd that an outside group was the bearer of this gift when they were to be demonized and sacked when that was the thing to do, also held as other in today’s time as well from an overarching rule in the church’s intergenerational hold. What really happened is the church was in favor of celebrating the humanities at that time. Though they didn’t get their poster boy JC on the painting all of the time, they did see a cultural shift that they wanted to be in line with, or even better in control of. The Vatican funded many works about differing philosophy and the collection exists to this day of works the church paid for. So if the church at that time, when the pope was still the most powerful person in the Western World, can tolerate and even produce works that compromise itself for a greater goal, I suppose the Mechanicum can as well. After the renaissance, the Vatican and symbolic presence moved to Spain. The Florentine way of life was getting too out of control and they moved towards doing things like the Spanish Inquisition, and sending out Columbus within a year of each other, so we can see they have their own shifts as well. They can be cooperative and xenophobic within very short periods of time. Depending on who you ask, the Columbus significance could be addressed in differing ways. Prevalent history would say that the goal was to find new lands to trade with, and what happened was out of the cards falling as they may. People like myself believe those were conquest missions from the start and this juxtaposition may be where we won't see how these histories repeat when we become mighty space beings ourselves. “We’re out here trying to fairly trade, and if we accidentally kill ⅓ of native populations with disease, it can't be our fault if we had no knowledge of sanitation”, basically saying you’re too dirty and stupid to be held accountable for how fate/history happened, “and if the remaining ⅔ die off from subjugation and frontiersman destruction from the needs of our religious property even better, and we are still not responsible for the damages because god said it was the way it should be anyway”. So take or leave Howard Zinn. This comparison arises again because the Mechanicus was founded for the purpose of the larger imperium to benefit from. Humans, designating a whole faction of workers to revisit old and lost knowledge to serve a narrative of their own 1st player syndrome entering the vastness of the universe makes sense. One take is that if humanity is advanced enough for space travel, we’ve moved beyond a human need to answer all our questions with god said so, manifest destiny, colonization and all of the exploitation that comes with it. We have learned so much from when we did it to our own kind, why would we set ourselves up to repeat these histories? The other take would say that maybe humanity would need religious structures to face how scary their insignificance may actually be. Which is what a philosopher may say in response to religious dogma. Maybe because we haven’t learned those lessons from real cruelty we do repeat them. Maybe the ruling class doesn’t give a damn if religious or scientific pillaging is profitable and they could tell the people below them worship bumble bees if the money’s right. From a financial standpoint and how the dollar dominates all, maybe religion makes sense as a form of control and obedience to their footing as rulers. So where does that leave us? I think much like we’ve seen in our documented history that power structures like to make their version of the past the standard model. They like to maintain their power, and suiting the glove that fits in whatever context they chose is a looseness to true devotion in principle, but is easily justified when weighing the risks of superior, newer, and sometimes older knowledge and technology reminding them how small brained they are. Even if it’s a cultural shift where the power structure starts to implode from newness the ends justify the means.
AdMech player here. Great presentation and execution of the faction. The AdMech perfectly embody the horror and brutality of the 40K universe.

Even if it’s a cultural shift where the power structure starts to implode from newness the ends justify the means.
is this voice AI made? The language used is extraordinary by the way. But if this voice is AI made THAT'S HERESY!
AI can't modulate the sound accordingly with the sentences, so it can't be AI.
