Ive been searching forcthe last 36 hours trying to find the name of this system snd how to work on it. Thank you so much. I try to self teach off videos before going to the shop. Thanks for saving me the frustration
I keep going back to this video. It’s by far the best that discusses this topic. Also enjoy the short history behind it. You are right. I replaced the ISIS BB and cranks with a more modern SRAM DUB system. I love the self-extracting dust cap. All that’s needed to remove/install the cranks is an 8mm hex. I just don’t like how there’s so many different standards in the bike industry. So expensive to buy so many tools.
Bought the wrong tool type for mine at first. Then I bought the right one and it isn’t deep enough to get over the spindle. Gotta love bikes and proprietary bullshit.
Still haven't found how you measure the octalink spindle. My reason says to the inside of the notches on the spindle cause otherwise these spindles would be way too wide for most track bikes but often when you take one of them out they are so corroded you can't find a number and or so wet and corroded you can't read the sticker which has degraded. There is no way this track bike had a 123 mm wide spindle but if you measure inside the spline you get 109.5 ish which is an available size from Shimano for the octalink
i have a 10 year old scott mtb with shimano octalink. i seased my pedals on it other week forgetting to lube after a wash. I freed them up ok but now my bike creeks like a "bar steward". at first i thought it was my pedal bearing spring. but now i think it could be my bottom end, whats your thoughts on it pal ?
I've developed a slight creak which comes from what sounds like the left side crank or bottom bracket when I'm pressing quite hard on the left pedal once per revolution. Anyone know where this is likely to be coming from? I've got an Isis drive set from 2005.

Thank you finally I determine my BB
Excellent video. Do you have a new link to the bottom bracket remover?
I have an ISIS crankset and ISIS bottom bracket.
Thanks
I've got links to the 3 tools used in the video in the description. All three will work for ISIS cranks and bottom brackets.

The threads stripped from crankset side, am able to remove it from the other side?
What did you do?
@@MaQuGo119 End up using a grinder to removed it

Either regrease the bottom bracket threads or grease your pedal. Check the chainring nuts as well.
thank you very much! big help for my ritchey cranks!
Great to hear!
good video, thanks!
You're welcome!
The 8 notch BB on the red bike. That's the bastard. Can you replace them with Shimano hollowtech
Yes, any English or Italian threaded BB can be replaced with Shimano hollowtech II crank and BB assemblies.
@@JoeyMesa awesome. Pain finding the 8 notch tool it's like 15 anywhere in england
Good explanation Joey.
Thanks 👍
Thanks!
You're welcome!
