I had a hard time learning Japanese. When I started the challenge my goal was to be able to hold a 10-minute conversation in Japanese with a native speaker. As you can see in the video my Japanese is still very basic and I do make many mistakes, however me and my Italki teacher Noriko somehow managed to keep the conversation going. I will continue my Japanese studies in 2014.
Congratulations Jan! Amazing determination to complete the Challenge...
Thank you very much!
+italki
the greatest results that ive had was by following the Japanese Magic Method (search google) without a doubt the best site that I have ever followed.
I am using this video as my "listen back" video. Basically, I'd study for a day or so, and come back to this video to see if I understand anything, and you don't understand how gratifying it feels to have heard "genki" and understand what she was saying. It's small, but the fact I understand, whereas previously I didn't, is astonishing
So glad I came across this video! :D I've been learning Japanese for 3 months now and I could pretty much follow your conversation. It gives me hope! And means I'm going at a good pace, though I still have a little way to go before being as good as you are in this video. I'm sure you've come a long way now!
This video is great!! At the time of this video you were as good at Japanese after 3 months as I am now after 2 years... :') but this was great listening practice for me, thank you haha
It is very amazing Video. I m learning japanese using practical Materials, you Motivated me! Perfect
What a great video, it has inspired me a lot!! I speak 3 languages (Spanish, English and French) and I'm studying 2 more (German and Italian) but they all have taken time. I'm planning to travel to japan in 6 months, this video has motivated me to learn japanese and speed up my learning. Great channel too.
It's inspiring me to learn japanese.
thank you.
Wait, is this video about learning Japanese, or online flirting? 😂
Well done man! Congrats!
I'm happy to notice that I can already understand some of the things you guys were saying =)
Thanks Fabricio, sounds you are doing good as well :)
nice!!! ive been studying for a while and more than an hr a day and feel like you got waaay further than i did hahahaha good shit man! gotta work harder now 😎🤙🏽
i started in late 2009 and I can probably only hold a 2 minute conversation. lol
i haven't had anyone to direct me or to talk to. however i did talk to a japanese person but mostly in english as he wasnt really willing to teach Japanese and i hardly knew any at that time.
3 months is pretty good, but it really all depends on what resources and time you have.
there are some mistakes but in 3 months this is impressive, i'm around n4-n3 level reading/listening comprehension but never practiced speaking due to shyness and i definitely want to try now.
omg I understood everything yay
Awesome !
Impressive!
Wow! A conversation longer than 1 minute after 3 months is already great!
Two months of the +1 challenge seemed to be a turning point for you. Up to that point, your Japanese speech seemed to be mentally draining for you--at least that's how it looked from my observations. Starting with your conversations in Oslo, you started to relax and flow with the language. As you continue to practice, the grammar will come easier and easier for you. So congrats on completing the +1 challenge in 2 languages, and have fun in Brazil.
Thank you for your comment Andy. I think you are right. It was actually the first time for me to speak Japanese without typing when I recorded the video is Olso. I forced myself to do it, because I had to shoot the video. Therefore I think it's important to relax, take your time, and try to make new sentences. That is not always easy, especially in the beginning however I experienced that you learn much quicker after reaching that point. Good luck!
Jan, buy her a ticket to visit you! :D Good work bro, keep it up man!
I prefer going there! What about you ;)
Jan vanderAa Well, I m already going there :)
Damn.... you're at the same level I'm at after 3 years ToT
(With lots of breaks and pauses in between though)
Nice!
This guys a beast
*Aside from traveling, I was studying one hour per day. I think that was what you're trying to say..
His flirting's kinda awkward.
I can't keep watching it because of this
what website did you use it ?
I can mostly understand japanese speaking, but cant answer it back, and i confuse when read the japanese text, but pretty understand in listening one,,
Omggg. I thought I wasn't learning but I was. I understand the conversation without subs🤣😭. Even though there are some few words I dont get but I still understood the context!! Huhuhu
woah after only 3 months you could speak that much japanese and understand that much wow
kuroichan101 No it's FUCKING IMPOSSIBLE TO DO THIS IN 3 FUCKING MONTHS!!!! HES LYING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah dude this is fucking bullshit no way can you do this in 3 months
Japanese is not a hard language to learn. The truth is that the Japanese Kanji takes a long time to properly learn and use.
***** Yup I can speak Japanese. As a native Spanish speaker learning Japanese is simple. As i said before, the only reason why Japanese is difficult is the Kanji.
Hiragana and Katakana took me a week to learn (read, write, and memorized). Any Japanese student will tell you - learning Japanese is easy. Learning Kanji is different.
***** You are nothing more than an Internet troll. Anything i say you will simply disagree. The simple fact is that learning a language is not difficult, It simply takes time and effort.
Words like difficult, hard, impossible, challenging; are words that are used to keep people lazy and stupid - just like you. But you wouldn't understand that because here you are, trying to argue *my point of view.*
***** I know what you mean, Kanji is challenging.
Ben J Hola jaja, Ben ¿Qué son Kanji, Hiragana y Katakana? ¿Algunas variaciones o algo así? Me interesa aprender japonés, ¿Algún libro, página o consejo que puedas recomendarme? Gracias!
What is the app’s name?
not bad man!
Thank you!
You should try learning bulgarian it's a beautiful language
Voice of korean, Japanese, Spanish woman is enough to make a man fall on his knees. Damn her voice.
Ik ga ook Japans leren! You're Dutch aren't you lol
Anywayyyy, I wish I could learn Japanese the same way we learn English. 1. It's all around us, 2. movies, tv-shows, internet, 3. school obviously. But nope, no Japanese around us, okay I watch anime, but no school so have to search for good free sites to learn it from.
Ben je al fluent?
Man, It was great! Please, record some new conversation in Japanese :)
how can I find someone we speak together in online?
plese help me
The app "hello talk" helps me a lot
Give it a try
stop interrupting her please haha, but good job! I could understand this, but only after learning it at school for like 4 years, crappy teachers...
Dude speaks better Japanese in 3 months than most humans do in 3 years.... Wow
I've been studying for 6 months and didn't understand a word
I dont think that you really studied, just immerse a lot in the language. I would recommend you to watch MattvsJapan he has a lot of good videos for learning japanese.
If you haven't already practice your listening skills by actively listening to easy beginner videos a few times a week alongside passively listening to more complicated stuff and you'll notice a difference in what you understand in everyday conversations after a few weeks
She is so cute ahahahah
😄
There’s something about your accent that’s making it still feel a little “noob-ish”, no offense, but it’s still absolutely amazing that you can speak so well after only three months!
i mean... well duh he still has a thick accent
Your pronunciation is good, you are fluent when you know what to speak, but your vocabulary is not good enough it looks like. You have quite some errors made too. But that pronunciation is really impressive.

You only get recognition when you realized you don't need it. You only really grow when you stop comparing.
(Been self-studying for 1 year 6 months and have used Wanikani to help learn kanji. Check it out)
