I like in the 02 show the first time Page does the chucka-chucka in this song he leans over and stares at Plant while he does it and Plant gives him a huge smile.
Rock music at this level is pure art. Listening to Carl explaining the structure and the emotions flowing out of this song reminds me of visiting impressionism collections in Paris and New York. I am a rock fan since I was a kid, now I am 53. Watching your works brings me to an even much higher level of appreciation. Greetings from Italy
The coolest thing about this demo Carl, is that you can talk about SO many other zeppelin tunes in this same maner.... The Genius of James Patrick Page. His time as a studio musician taught him so much, probably especially how to improvise so many chords and voicing's. Angles, marrying different structures to form almost new sounds, especially one's never tried with blues based rock and roll.. No to mention the many tunings that he used over the years..
" Ramble On " is a song that demonstrates the full scope of Led Zeppelin's talents at the zenith of their powers. The varied moods between the lovely acoustic guitar figure that soon gives way to a powerfully memorable riff. This reminds me of just why Led Zeppelin is justifiably considered one of the greatest Rock & Roll Bands of all time.
I’m totally binging on your videos and there’s is so much there that just grabs me and speaks to me, but, but, but, when you showed how the ramble on riff needs to be continued to be feathered when amped up, well really spoke to me showing the beauty of the song and the music.
I bought my first Zeppelin album in 69. It was actually an 8-track and I was 11 years old. Personally I thought there was something to it. Most people were still listening to The Beatles And whatever was on the radio. I wish I truly wish I would have had someone to help me learn how to play music then. I can see how much fun you're having Carl and I'm happy for you I just wish I could join you but I never got the kick in the pants or the opportunity or surrounded by people that were interested in music none of my family did anything but listen to records. It's unfortunate but even at 64 years old I still love this band and I'm thrilled that someone puts as much time into it as you are. They got a bad rep when in reality they are incredible musicians each and every one of them. Keep it up I'm having a blast!
I’m working on it, but in the intro there’s a tail on the Asus chord. He does a figure and I can hear an open b string, but I honestly can’t tell exactly what the trick is. Want to take a closer look at that part! TY

Going back to the Acoustic really underscores the lightness of touch necessary to play the electric. I suppose now you will have to break down the solo in "Dazed And Confused" Thanks Carl

If you'll allow me a story...I came to rock and roll age when my brother gave me Diary of a Madman for Christmas when I was 12. I loved it. Mostly because my big brother gave it to me. Before that I had fat laces in my Adidas and really liked break dancing! But I was raised in the back of my mom's VM bug listening to Fleetwood Mac and Franki Valli and all the 70s soft rock stuff. So that gave me a soft spot for music, even after the likes of Ozzy took over. I was exposed to Led Zeppelin soon after that, and I remember being so happy that there was this band that could make me feel the way Ozzy's music did, and on the next song make me feel like a Franki Valli song...carrying my first 'girlfriend's' books home from school. at 9 years old :-) They just did it all. And I have not heard another band do it as well as they did since. If I had to pick a band that came close, I guess it would be Pearl Jam. Of course there are lots of other talents out there that I respect and love. Rush and Jane's Addiction are the first that come to mind. But Led Zeppelin, man...that band can make an Atheist think mystically. Cheers!
I have to agree with the other comments on this page. You do an outstanding job of explaining the brilliance of Led Zeppelin's music. A competent, thoughtful critique of the musical/technical aspects. Along with an enthusiastic and rational - meaning not too flighty - translation of the mystical and dramatic aspects of the band that made them so great as a whole.
A drummer (I’ve played with over the years) and myself are seeing if we can pull together a duo doing some eclectic stuff. This is one we are working on. I’m able to pull off the verses on guitar and sing too.. but that pre chorus is like hitting a wall for me. Thanks for the lesson!
Funny I was just watching Jimmy Page Ramble on (It might get loud) and found your video. I like the way Page plays this, lots of feel. The part you play starting at 14:00 is very addicting and if you listen to the song at 2: 36 you can hear him picking and strumming. Just beautiful. Thank you for doing this video, it is so helpful.
Just found your channel...outstanding. Watching this makes me appreciate this song so much more! Pure genius. And the way Plant hangs on "autumn moon lights my way at ~ 43 seconds...chills.

Another great vid... I have used that same technique over the years... Tim Pierce makes a great point that you pick lightly to get a big sound and you demonstrate that perfectly.. One of the other key elements is relaxing and breathing easy... This is one of my fave Zep tunes and I could list a gazillion reasons why... Whats great about this medium is going back and relearning things some of us may have missed along the way..... Kudos!

Nice tip on the pre-chorus, fingerstyle electric part, especially to play on a single guitar. Totally hear the Emaj7 too, and it really sets apart from the E chord to start the next stanza on the acoustic bed track.
Carl, Nice breakdown here. Page is known for always changing chords patterns so I learned in the Verse, you can use a basic E-Form on the 14th, down to the 12 fret, then A- Asus4 ( not bar form ). Try it as its a cool change.
Buckminster Fuller: "When I am working on a problem, I never think about beauty but when I have finished, if the solution is not beautiful, I know it is wrong". Carl, I never forget the day you compassionately tore my terrible and limited right hand (sack of dead potatoes) technique to shreds. I've never stopped working on it. I think of that always, and I think you would be proud...
I've been playing a three pickup Gibson Les Paul custom SG for the past thirty-five years so I almost never slam on my strings. I been dying for a burst Les Paul. I had an Epiphone Les Paul that I bought to not beat on my Gibson, but didn't play it a lot because the Gibson just feels and sounds so much better. Unfortunately the Epi was stolen. Love your custom that you used on the Ten Years Gone video. That thing is gorgeous.
First time viewing. You are very good at picking up the very small intricate things that most never hear. BravoZulu. How about other Zep songs. There are many like Ramble On.

Thank you my friend!! I’ve taken some time off before my North American tour of my soon to be released progressive orchestral rock album called Collinwood Yards (Carl Baldassarre music.com). During my time off I’m actually bringing my Led Zeppelin II revival concert to the stage. My first show is tomorrow! Ledzeppelinbybaldassarre.com …Regarding the guitar tone: I’m playing through my ‘72 Les Paul into a Bognar Lagrange pedal into my black face fender deluxe reverb amp. I’ll sometimes pre boost the Lagrange pedal with my Spark gain pedal. But the general key to Jimmy Page’s tone: it’s never as “gained up” as you think. He almost never oversaturates his sounds with pedal gain. If you’re using a gain pedal, dial in the gain you like and then roll it back a good amount and you’ll be closer to Page. So much is also coming from the amp input and amp structure as well as the humbuckers. And he’s also able to get more “gain” by not squeezing the fingerboard to death. Try it. You’ll be surprised how much cleaner your gain is if you pull back from unnecessary finger tension! If you want more info just hit me back!! Peace!!
Carl is there any chance for you to give some insight into your amp setup and how you create that tone? It's the same with your Ten Years Gone breakdown, I can't believe how beautiful and spot-on your sound always is when you play Page stuff, no matter if clean, distorted or whatever. I'm sure there would be plenty of people willing to pay for some kind of online masterclass or seminar or something. Keep up the work, I love your videos!

@@CarlBaldassarreMusic Yes Indeed I did subscribe
That was beautiful and just so insightful. you are like a storyteller and it was mesmerising to listen to you talk and play!
Wow, thank you!
I was exposed to Led Zeppelin soon after that, and I remember being so happy that there was this band that could make me feel the way Ozzy's music did, and on the next song make me feel like a Franki Valli song...carrying my first 'girlfriend's' books home from school. at 9 years old :-)
They just did it all.
Cheers!
Love the story!!!
Thank you!
Can't wait to see what you do after the Led Zeppelin II analysis. Would love to see your analysis of Led Zeppelin IV, my all-time favorite album.
I’m going to wrap up LZ II here shortly. Then I may go cafeteria style and pick and choose some different tracks from different albums.
Brilliant, beautiful analysis of a truly wonderful song! Thank you so much...
Just found your channel...outstanding. Watching this makes me appreciate this song so much more! Pure genius. And the way Plant hangs on "autumn moon lights my way at ~ 43 seconds...chills.
Thanks for unlocking the music in a very easy yet educated understandable manner. Tom G.
Thank you so much!! I hope you subscribed?? Btw…hit the notification bell. RUclips is not prioritizing my videos yet!
Killer stuff, sir, THANK YOU. Every tutorial on this is different, which can be frustrating but also lets you mix/match bits you like. I got many from yours. Again, thanks for sharing your craft.
Kudos!
Breathing is such a critical part and connected to the flow of movement. Thank you so much for your loyal friendship and insights!
@@CarlBaldassarreMusic I'm just another guy in the wheel of life hunting for that elusive note.. Like the rest of Brothers and Sisters who live and breathe this...
Its an underated gem with a fantastic bassline
So true!
you bring some great insights and context here to what this song really is
Rick Beato does a nice version of “Why is This Song so Good?” for this song. He breaks down all the parts. I think you would enjoy it. I enjoyed this.
Thank you for the suggestion. He’s a titan on RUclips.
Carl Baldassarre My pleasure. I have a feeling you might be a Titan as well.
@@CarlBaldassarreMusic I love Rick Beato... You can just tell he's a great teacher and a master Musician to the core... The great quality I think your both exude.. Passion and the sensibility to make sure the novice even knows what's going on.. When I see something from educators like yourself... I feel like I come away a better musician.
@@CarlBaldassarreMusic Mr B. And Rick B. Are my favorite music instructors on you tube. Mr. B you are an excellent music instructor and guitar player. I'm enjoying everything you have offered . We need more people like you 😉. Thanks much 😊
@@CarlBaldassarreMusic You cord changes are in the wrong please. Actually, the 5th- 8th cord is on the first second and 3rd fret ‘
I love your breakdowns of these songs - so much insights. I think I have to agree with Rick Biato here in Atlanta - this single song is the best written and produced song in all of contemporary music!
I was two years old when this album came out,I first heard of LED Zeppelin when john passed oh my can u imàhine what they might have become since then wow
I could listen forever how you interpret music. Very poetic. Thank you !
So sweet! Thank you!
This and the Rover are my two favourite Zep songs
Great breakdown! Going to approach this song differently now!
Hard to choose but Ramble On is one of my go to Zeppelin songs. “Playing without tension… power in letting go….beautiful sounds come from beautiful motion” I’m not a musician but I love music and can here what you’re saying in Jimmy’s guitar playing and JPJ’s bass as well.
Great Clip from “It Might Get Loud”:

Dude! I am loving your content. Your prechorus at 6:15 is AWESOME! I'm going to have to learn that. So cool!
Thank you! It’s one of the few moments that I insert my own choice, but it works well enough to justify using it!
Always precise and exact. Perfectly done.
thank you for spreading your knowledge with such love and passion. ❤️🚀
I just posted an episode on Ramble On! Please have a look and let me know how you liked it??? I loved doing that one. I always wanted to learn how to play it properly! It’s very rewarding to get it under your fingers.
I wish I had you as my guitar teacher when I was young!
That’s the highest compliment! Thank you!
@@CarlBaldassarreMusic you're welcome!
Great job breaking this song down - really enjoyed this video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
OMG ! 14:20 in !!! Those chords and relaxed strumming ahhhhhhh Hope there in my song book. I hadn't caught that before. Favorite RUclips channel
Thank you!!!!
Rewarding to play! Levels of musicians ty! Wow
Mind is blown....this is fantastic. Thank you.
Thank you!!
One of my Zeppelin songs to play and listen to. Great stuff
It’s such a gorgeous piece and tricky to get all of the scene changes live on an electric guitar like he does! Please share with others who might appreciate this!
Carl Baldassarre You did such a wonderful job of teaching this song (my second favorite by LZ). You showed me parts that I could NEVER pick up on my own. I've been playing guitar since 1975 and I can play several LZ songs. But this one has always caused me to pull my hair out. Thank you again for your input. By the way, there is no "save" link in your video. ??? Could you please install that link in order to bookmark your videos for easy access. Thank you.
Wow! So glad I discovered your channel. You are a guitar master!
one of the most important song of led zep II. the opening door to the acoustic part of led zep III and stairway to heaven and so...
i REALLY did enjoy this video and your insights to the song and Jimmy Pages composing and playing (and producing!!) plus i appreciatte not only your musical knowledge, but also your wise and pleasant way to bring this over...i wish i had "discovered" your channel long ago....and yes...when i first learned to play guitar over 50 years ago, i (and others) could have really done with some insights and help back then....but there was only Led zep themselfes...and Eric and Jimmy H......:-D
You, sir, are the most prolific commenter!! I appreciate your enthusiasm and engagement!! Peace, Carl

I enjoyed this video very much , all you‘re telling . Great , thank you.
I really dig your approach to playing. Music is much more than clusters of notes!
Amen!!
I try to learn something new everyday and often it is from your videos such as this. What a wealth of knowledge and experience you have. I left a message to Truefire. I hope it didn’t fall on deaf ears. You would be such a valuable asset to their programs. I will keep trying though.
Wow that’s so great. I need the help to keep this channel going. I really appreciate it!!
Hey great breakdowns of the Zep II album! Are you gonna do more albums? Would be great! Also, i'm very curious about the gear you use. You have a Page Custom Les Paul? Any effectbox on the ground? Thx for answering!
Peace!!
Baldassarre? Italiano? :D btw love this channel specially the detailed breakdown of songs keep up the good work this channel needs more subscribers
buongiorno! Positano, Italy! Così felice che ti piace la mia musica!
Ciao Ciao,
Carl Baldassarre
Carl is there any chance for you to give some insight into your amp setup and how you create that tone? It's the same with your Ten Years Gone breakdown, I can't believe how beautiful and spot-on your sound always is when you play Page stuff, no matter if clean, distorted or whatever. I'm sure there would be plenty of people willing to pay for some kind of online masterclass or seminar or something.
Keep up the work, I love your videos!
Hey Carl,
I am 20 Year old Led Zeppelin Fan from Bavaria Germany.
I wanted to say that i absolutely love your videos, Ramble On!
What is your favorite ZEP concert of all time and how do you get your tone?🤔
Keep on rocking mate!
Greetings from Germany❤🙏
Greetings my young brother from Germany! I can’t pick a favorite concert. I think the era of live performances I liked was between late 1970 - 1971. When they opened with Immigrant Song into Heartbreaker. Stunning way to start shows. For my rig you can check out my secrets to Jimmy Page tone video. And I’ll be releasing a thorough video over the next week about my touring pedal board. Peace to you my friend!! Mr. B.
@@CarlBaldassarreMusic Thank You for answering my friend. I have also not a favourite concert but i think the best ones were RAH 1970, MSG 1973, LA Forum 1977. Cant pick which one i like most because it are all different eras of the band. But the setlist of the 1977 shows are just stunning with achilles last stand for example. The next video i will check out is the secret of the Jimmy Page tone.
Greetings and keep up with your insane videos.
Nice presentation,😃 keep them going!
Thanks for the encouragement! I’ll keep on it!
