Daily uploads will take this youtube channel to the next level if you can keep it up. Don't edit a lot and just pump the videos out. You're clearly the best Catan youtuber by a long shot, so you just need volume and consistent new content.
I personally wouldn't say by a LONGSHOT. As I at least feel DyLighted seems pretty damn good as well. And they are around the same ELO as well, from what I can see.
@@Popmycherryyo Personally I think Dandy is definitely higher skill, plus I just like his style a little more. He's calmer and more relaxed. I watched Dylighted too, but he spazzes a little too hard sometimes for me lol.
@@rdcruick No disrespect to DyLighted as a person, but DandyDrew is EASILY a more consistent player than DyLighted in my opinion. Personally I think if one feels they HAVE to keep changing one's screenname every few days or so in order to maintain a competitive edge, that just kind of underscores said inconsistency on their part as a player. I only discovered this channel this past week so I don't know if DandyDrew changes his screename on and off too, but personally I feel Colonist should only allow each player to change one's screenname once per season (the only exception obviously being if the new screenname is offensive whether it be racist, sexist, etc.) Hawkeye is very well known in the Catan community, doesn't change his screen name and that hasn't stopped him from being at or near the top of the rankings. I know he's not a content creator himself, but he's still widely well known. DavBav also is extremely well-known and has been stepping up as a content creator himself and, again, is high in the rankings despite keeping his screen name the same. I don't know, I feel if anyone has to cling to anonymity as a security blanket in order to maintain a competitive edge of sorts................ that just further convinces me they're not as consistently skilled as some of their top peers, just my two cents.
Some comments RE leaving such a strong set-up for Drew. I was 3rd pick as red in this game, and it´s tough to place defensively on this board. Firstly, there is some hindsight bias - because of how it played out, Drew´s set-up looks unbeatable. It´s strong, but perfectly beatable. Drew benefitted from the 6s over-rolling and also the robber not doing much damage. There is also a world where OJ places on 6/3/sheep port, limiting Drew´s game - probably not the best pick but seen worse in practice. The 5/8/10 + 5/4/11 that I chose got crushed with 6s going crazy, but I actually think it´s a good LR set-up - double wood&brick, high producing expansion on the 8/4/3, expansion to ore and a decent port. I think with more even rolls this set-up wins at an OK rate. I considered taking 6/3/11 or 6/9/4 defensively but they both have some problems. If I take 6/3/11 then Drew takes 6/9/4 + 5/8/10 which is almost as strong as what he got in the game. Blue also has a great set-up. I think I´m then left with 9/10/11 which seems too low producing to win, especially if the robber spends time on the 6 ore and 9 wheat. The upside is that I can connect roads, but a road game with just 2 pips of wood and 18 points overall seemed weak. Taking 6/9/4 in 3rd is more interesting and possibly the better pick. Drew could take my set up (5/8/10 + 5/4/11) and effectively we swap set-ups, but I was concerned he may take 6/3/11(brick) and 5/8/10. I then take 9/10/11 starting road to sheep port and blue again takes 8/4/3 up top. The problem is that with the middle now more closed up, OJ looks even more likely to take 6/3/sheep port, ending my game. Maybe my concerns RE taking 6/9/4 as 3rd were unfounded as it´s not certain that I lose the sheep port, but it´s a lot to consider in 2 mins. With Drew and blue likely getting great set-ups either way, I opted for what I considered the best LR set-up available and hoped for a bit of luck with 5s out-rolling 6s.
That 6-9-4 with the sheep port is probably the first pick lol. Gj and great vid as always! The gods of catan are on your favor! Lets goooo, no1 is close!
Drew: 2:49 what are your thoughts on taking the 9/4/6 and 8/4/3? 9/4/6 road left, 8/4/3 road right. Overloaded sheep for 4:1 into a quick 2:1 port. Lock down most of the sheep for high value trading, strong O/W/S that is difficult to block. Only risk is someone jacking the port on the 6/3. This would potentially set up for a double play to sneak road and army for the win. Just curious on your take for this: are there weaknesses I am missing?
I love hearing you talk at the start! The spots you say are great like the 8/5/10 b/b/w looks questionable to me, I just see my hand being clogged with brick all game, but "production is king".
red definitely threw you the biggest bone with that pick, probably expected to get 6 11 12 to the brick port. but 6/3/11 with 9/10/11 is also really nice setup - secure road with a bunch of ores
What are your thoughts on starting with 11 12 6 instead of 3 6 11? Triple sharing 6 ore? Pros: starting with a road which helps you securing sheep port even with somebody settling on 8 4 3 on the bottom right, starting with all five resources with losing 1 point of production (even though you are 12 wood) and 6 ore will be less blocked. Cons: triple sharing the 6 ore means everybody has ore and less trading value. Also opening up the board and opponents will be more powerful that way. Eventually it didn’t come to that with those ridiculous rolls but i was wondering your take on that
Great video! I always get nervous holding with 6 cards and two cities like at 12:05. Do you have a system you use to decide when to hold vs. porting? Also love the Sound of Music reference at 11:43 :)
I like the Play for the sheep port even before the city. I think the 6 was pretty crazy here and you‘d have had a lot of trouble to get there so giving a brick away is pretty tough. Everybody will block you after that city…
Just out of interest, you mentioned the 649 starting spot as a monster (which it is), but the 6 3 wool port could've been taken at the start (possibly on a different board where it paired nicely with something else). In that situation, would you go on the 643 (just below it). Then, the 6 3 wouldn't be available and you could Road settle onto the 6 wool port? It would mean your other settlement would be different as you'd need wood, brick and wheat. But at least you guarantee the strong wool port
It's probably worth mentioning why you chose the second placement that you did. I thought at first you would take the 6-11-12 to have all 5 resources and make sure you don't get plowed to the sheep port. You didn't seem to even consider this option, and I assume it's because it gives such a good spot to red (the 6-3-11) without giving you all that much in return. The leaderboard clearly shows you as the best player on Colonist, since you have a much higher win rate than the other top players. Congrats on that, and on the success of your channel. It's very much deserved.
Are you going to post the game we played today that we both lost? I know it didn't go how you wanted but it was still a fun game lol. You were very frustrated with me!
Please check your discord messages Noah - I wanted to talk to you about that game. It was a good game and really close. You played it very well, but the devs were not in your favor. Thanks man!
I just noticed something and want your input on it: At minute 15 you hold 2 brick, 2 sheep, 2 ore and 2 wheat. You decide to play the knight before your roll. But dont you have a lot of winning rolls here ? You can use the mono to get 3 wood since blue just got 3. So then you would just be one brick short for road and one ore short for a city which would equal 3 victory points. Since you also have 2 sheep, which you can trade with your sheep port for any card, you are actually just a brick, a ore or two sheep short which leaves u with 6,11,3 and 4 as winning rolls. Isnt that worth a try , so rolling first? Or am i wrong here? Greeting from Germany
one of my last games I had a similar setup and was pretty chuffed to get it, coordinated 6 ore and sheep, coordinated 4 wheat and sheep, 3 wheat and something else. In the end, 3 and 6 rolled 5 times each, and 4 never did (not over exaggerating there and mind you the game took much longer too). I ended up with 3 points because one of the 2-3 devs I managed to pull was a vp. But I guess so it goes sometimes...
Tough! Even with “OP setups”, dice and player variance can hit you hard. This game was a rare case of not only getting the best setup on the board in fourth, but also getting the best dice rolls to go with it. It happens.
I see that in some recent videos, your opponents don’t react to your robber extortions. I think what you can do is make your threats more credible by actually following through on them. So there’s a lot of value in having the image that if you threaten to steal from Red, you actually do it and not steal from Blue instead. Otherwise you reward Red for calling your bluff, which is not the point.

Why did you play knight at 15:00? If you let it roll and 9 or 5 hits (which it did) you could have won there
Insane game!
i think that was the fastest catan game ive ever seen
what is your opinion on checking opponent win rates? everyone is doing it but i think the first few minutes to assess the board is way too precious:)
it takes 20 seconds to check all three dude its not a waste of time especially if you are in fourth

6:09 Blue was angry that orange have robbed him instead of you. He didn't see 0 cards in your hand i guess
Cant believe they allowed 4th pick to get that position, and then the dice decided to punish it hard haha
Yeah! About as OP as it gets for 4th in terms of dice and position.
Doesnt 11 point win give you more elo?
They don’t! 10 and 11 point wins are the same.

had the same thought. at least first time he says no, you could consider to punish it. so that later on he is more willing to trade
that only works if he does another extortion later down the line.
The power of OWS, amazing game
What a smackdown lol

Should collab with Dylighted! Now that’s content
We have the 4 coaching videos and more will be coming out soon!
i finally found your channel
Welcome!
well, those 6s... no more comments :D
This game was just insane. Clearly these were amateur players if they let you get those spots in 4th position
Massacre😂
Good granny
When I'm on 6s, 8s roll.
When I'm on 8s, 6s roll.
Coach me pls 🐑
damn...
Omg that was just silly lol
could have settled instead of popping for the guaranteed 11 points
11 point wins don’t matter… I wanted to go to the development card casino and try my luck.
I'm starting to think you are actually hacking
first
They did it to themselves. That should never happen in 4th
