  • Still asking what Force Design is? Here is a video for you.
Based on a threat-informed, ten-year time horizon, the Marine Corps is designing a force for naval expeditionary warfare in actively contested spaces. Throughout this ten-year initiative, the Marine Corps will make investments in capabilities to include long range precision fires, advanced reconnaissance capabilities, unmanned systems, and resilient networks. Did anyone else notice a lot of their exercises were on tiny, flat, almost man-made islands in somewhat tropical ocean locations... 🤔🤔🤔. Sending a subtle message to another big country who has been making tiny Islands in the ocean maybe?

The sane part of the US Military today acknowledges and is now actively preparing for what will most likely be America's and the free world's next military threat. this is what they get paid to do. The Marine Corps has been very vocal about this and its plans. The Marines are so serious about this they have disbanded all of their tank battalions and done other things to address the threat the free world will face in the future.
The Marines see their job in the future as an amphibious force that is light and can move fast. The Corps does not see itself as a 2nd Army for America, but a uniquely trained branch of the armed forces with a special mission not done by the other branches.

It's not subtle at all. They have straight up come out and said we need to be able to combat China in a South Pacific theater of war. Some of the criticism cites the problems with dropping off small units of Marines on small islands with limited support and the ability for resupply.

Looking at the big picture, SSgt squad leaders mean a faster promotional track for career Marines due to many more billets.
It also works by making Gunnys a platoon asset by taking over Plt Sgt billets and not just sticking them in the company office.
I always respected the Corps for pushing responsibility down to the junior NCO ranks but the bottom line is much more is going to
be expected of platoon-level leaders in distributed operations with less oversight from higher command. Even company-level supervision
will be lacking. It would be for the best that more seasoned Marine SNCOs make their way down to where they have direct supervision
of junior NCO Corporals running Fire Teams and grooming Sergents for greater responsibilities in the new billet as Assistant Squad Leader.

    • @krasnavin

SSGT Squad leaders already proposed to get more experienced Marines at squad level. Also increased squad size.

    • @cm-pr2ys
      @cm-pr2ys 3 года назад

@@TheLAGopher We need to have a fire team leader development program just like we have a squad leader development program- especially if this whole "distributed operations one rank higher" thing comes into play. Marines wouldn't be squad leader until Sgt, which is historically not until the end of their first enlistment in rare cases and usually sometime in their second enlistment.
However, most squared away Marines can expect to become fire team leaders in their first enlistment, and if distributed operations are the way forward to survive in a peer enemy's WEZ, then we need to prioritize the selection and training of fire team leaders as much as we for squad leaders. TSULC should be just as long as AIC. Benefits and career tracks for fire team leader's should be similar to those of squad leaders, and so on.

The Marines are the Tip of the Spear. They go anywhere. They fight anywhere. Always ready to deliver the first hammer blow to the enemy.
I'm absolutely not an expert. I'm not about to pretend that I know more than any Marine, grunt or General. But this change feels overly drastic and regressive. Like somebody has too big of a hard on for the WW2 Pacific Theater.

Sorry Sir, you lost me when you talked about 'standards' and then let a Bn Cmdr with 'substandard performance' be retained after this substandard performance resulted in the deaths of nine service members! What have you done to the Corps?

Can't imagine raping the capabilities of your own branch of the military just to meat a threat that you'll never actually engage and even if you did, will still most likely fight them the same way we've been fighting. There's no way these "planners" could ever be wrong about the actual capabilities of certain weapon systems nor forget to foresee counters to these new weapon systems that completely negate any doctrinal changes to your force layout design - impossible.
I just can't imagine taking a force that historically has been America's wacking stick to fight small wars over the years, gimp it's actual capabilities, and render it into becoming a standard "Marine Corps" similar to other countries that are typically nothing more than Navy security....
I wonder how much money Berger is gonna make from the MIC with all these new "necessary" contracts to "meet a new enemy threat" after he retires. Semper Fi!

What can you really do though? Youth male suicide is up across the board in so many countries. It's way beyond the marine corps

Just please don't broadcast and advertise precise plans and roadmaps et al, to whole world. The enemy will have a field day with that, let alone the politics. With respect to 'need for modernization' ... Well, it should of course be a continual regular, seamless part of each and every FY budget -- not a once in every 20-30 yrs massive lump sum strategy shift which can create huge cluster issues and be far less effective. Maybe the whole core strategy implementation and formulation process is fundamentally flawed too, which is something to contemplate and examine? Respects

Personally I think if anything I these type of videos help normalize the realization that a near-peer conflict is potentially on our horizon. It’s a small flex to our adversaries.

    • @donkoh5738

@@Linkolite Thanks for reply. Yes, I'd concur and would be pretty sure that potential adversaries realize that say, over the past 3-4 yrs or so, DoD has begun a slow strategy-shift process back over to deterring and counter-balancing a near-peer threat. The issue of course though, would arguably be how to shift (program modification by program modification, etc) and how quickly to shift accordingly, to a sufficient degree to make an actual difference.
But if the various services today feel they have to propose such an actual transition to congress and general public and industry et al, with a 9-10 yr modernization horizon in order to achieve some aspect of credibe modernized capacity out in the field?? Then yes, I fully agree they should robustly start reconfiguring the Defense base budget allocations going forward, ASAP. More strategically on par with how efficiently and rapidly industry and urgent tactical modifications in requirements and procurement adjustments were made in WWII.
However, if not capable of or sensing how prudent to do so soon, then absolutely yes, there more likely is catastrophic flaw and fail within the decision making camps today. imho
