  • Today I wanted to share with you my latest sketchbook which I basically filled in just a month. This is from March 2024, as I work my way through my 100day project of drawing flowers. I show you my progress and thought process behind each spread.
For me sketchbooks are a place to play and experiment, without the pressure of needing to make 'good art'. I hope you find this inspiring.

Thank you for sharing- you’ve given me lots of ideas. I’m struggling with colour at the moment, and I’ve also been experimenting with acrylics, so it’s good to see how other artists work through problems or ideas. Love your mandala work with the night skies. I also love how you show us the pages in your sketch book which are experiments - which you don’t love but which you learn from. I always start off with painting and then hate what I’ve done but when I’ve doodled (or drawn!) all over it, it begins to take shape! I think I just need to work on colour mixing now!! 🥰

Thanks Sue, I'm glad you found this inspiring. I definitely think in a world full of perfect Instagram photos of art, we need to normalize that making bad art is part of the process. Its actually important. Being an artist is actually such an emotional rollercoaster 🤣😍 i find i learn so much about myself along the way. I'm excited too, to play around with colour abit more and get more confident with it! Happy creating, and thanks for watching 🥰🙏x

Thank you so much!!! I almost didn't share this sketchbook because some of the pages seem so random 🤣 I'm so glad you enjoyed it! (This is very encouraging to me so thank you) I think it's quite intimidating to see lots of sketchbooks online that appear to be full of finished amazing artworks. It's definitely helped me to just use a sketchbook as a space to try things out and play with new ideas. Thanks for watching 🥰♥️ x

I think your artwork is absolutely beautiful. I love your colour choices and especially picking out the brights.
I've been on a similar journey exploring colour. I used to draw in graphite a lot when I was younger and never really explored colour, so I too realised sometime last year that although I know a bit about line and texture I didn't have any real knowledge of colour theory, mixing and what was my preference. I've enjoyed watching various artists on you tube and exploring the colour palettes they use, like yourself I think the Muted tones are very sophisticated and beautiful but I find in my own work that I don't get such a pop of enthusiasm as I do when I use brights. The endorphins that a bright page releases for me is something to be cherished.
I loved seeing this journey in your own sketchbook. 💚

Thank you so much Bianca. I love how you've worded this "The endorphins that a bright page releases is something to be cherished "! Yes I absolutely agree. I don't know why for such a long time I've felt that using bright colours is somehow childish is something I should avoid. That's a sad thought really as children actually make the best art. It's full of freedom and joy, something we could all do with more of! Colour is such a fun and joyful journey to explore. I love how the process of art brings out all these stories and emotions that need to be processed and worked through. It really is a rollercoaster 🤣🤪! Thanks so much for watching, I'm glad you enjoyed my work and it's nice to find someone else who also has a love of brights! Happy creating 😍❤️xx

love seeing how artists explain their process= I am really just getting started and feel like I am all over the place! I discovered Sandi about a tear ago and was mesmerized-it gave me the push to try my hand at painting etc.... I love how you use color as well- this was a great deep dive into how we should experiment and let go of the "fear" we get trapped in. we are all as unique as flowers and leaves, and this is such a great reminder to me to keep on keeping on with it 😊🙏

Love this outlook, thanks so much. Yes Sandi is amazing isn't she!!!😍🙌! The more I make art and push myself, the more I realize that fear and doubt are a daily companion on the journey. Its definitely an emotional rollercoaster🤣. Thanks for watching 😍🙏x

Love seeing your ideas on the pages, I shall look forward to seeing more bird drawings and paintings, the robins are fab. We have a lot of finches, sparrows, possibly wrens and tits on our feeders

Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed this. Oooo I love watching all the birds on our feeder in the garden. I do love this time of year when suddenly after the long winter they all seem to appear again. Definitely feeling inspired to draw more birds in this season 😍🙏x
