- In 2009, the R230 Mercedes-Benz SL had just been refreshed with new styling and new technology, and the absolute top-dawg was the SL65 AMG, with its incredible 6.0 Liter twin-turbo V12. But what sort of tech did you actually get for just shy of $200k? Today we find out.

Peak SL in my opinion. Loads of exotic mechanics in this car from the Drive-By-Wire SBC Brakes to the fully active hydraulic ABC suspension. And of course the remote controlled glass convertible roof. A remarkable rolling showcase of Mercedes technology that's actually appreciating in value. Honestly with the compact size of this car, a backup camera isn't needed in my opinion. But what is needed is a tire upgrade to modern Michelin Cup 2's to update and extract more usable performance. Vicious cold start up at the open.
The brakes and suspension are the reason its still a terrible car to buy today.
@@aqibfreed4672 Ridiculous utter nonsense. The brakes are a crowning innovation of virtuoso engineering delivering phenomenal performance. The no car has a ride this smooth yet so agile with phenomenal real time adaptive grip. Either you haven't driven an SL65 or you had a [very] bad example.
You misunderstood what i meant. Today you can buy an S class, SL etc, but the braking system and especially the air suspension system ( although they’re amazing when they work ) cost a fortune to repair.
Why do you think these cars are so cheap lol. Talking about a £200,000 car which today you can find them around 1/10th the price. If the braking and suspension werent such massive common faults then these cars would have easily held their value.
@@aqibfreed4672 LOL.... I own this model. Those are common stereotypes for the generation. All resolved as the Mercedes cognoscenti will tell you. SBC Brakes corrected by 2005 recall with a 25 year superseding warranty. The ABC Active suspension [which is hydraulic not air] can be updated with modern transparent magnetic ABC filters which greatly extend the system life often to 100k miles with strict fluid changes. Plus you will never find this car at $20,000 even with 100k miles on them. Now they are appreciating with as they became demystified. My 2009 was purchased 5 years ago for $49k with 45k miles. Now it's appraised at $75k private sale with 20k more miles. I'm about to buy another before people like you wise up and realize Mercedes can't even make them like this anymore then bid the prices way back up.
the best looking SL and the absolute beast of an engine...... this car would still look good for 20 more years and even more

Which car site is recommended to search for sl65 amg.
I default to auto trader dot com usually, but cars dot com and auto tempest are good options too.
R230 best SL. And the 65 is the best version of the SL.
How many 2009 SL65 were made?
Hard to find that exact data. My understanding is that only about 3,000 SL65 were made for the whole run of the R230 chassis which was from 2002-2011, so not very many!
355 SL65's were made in 2009 in total from the factory. It's very very rare.
