The gentlemans agreement is not that strict. Normal cars usually adhere to it. But I have seen Audi V6 Diesel exceed 155. And for performance cars its an option you can always enable. The SL65 does 186 effortlessly. Thats the thing. There are few cars that outperform it even to this day on the Autobahn. Its like flying closely to the ground. Not a race car its made to go from Munich to Stuttgart in one go with an average speed of 155mph+ in less than one hour. In comfort. (These days only possible during certain times due to traffic). The SL65 doesnt make that much sense without an Autobahn system around you. But if you have it around you the 65 Mercedes are the best cars to have. Sure its over the top expensive but driving on the Autobahn fast in a serene relaxing manner has its own utility. It beats plane/train.

They call that competence at speed "Autobahn Breeding". At 100mph it's just waking up.
Great car! The TT 4.0 V8 that Audi/Porsche/Lamborghini put in their cars is nice but doesn't come close to this.
