This was it. Just replaced my water pump. Still leaking. The heater hose was leaking out the gasket.
Autozone had the complete assembly. Replaced it and no more leak… for now.
Thanks.
Thank you for posting this video. I also have a 89 Chevy, the fitting snapped in half also. I was quoted 400.00 to fix it. Your video and easy instructions are greatly appreciated. Great job!
Awesome. Good luck with it. 😁👍
Good job. I did the same thing on my '94 Chevy p/u. Who needs a "qucik connector" there, anyway.
Same issue on my 87 Elko, thanks for this video! Life saver!
That same heater hose just blew up on my 89 Scottsdale, coolant absolutely everywhere, lucky I made it home before my engine overheated
Man I’m glad everything turned out ok. It sucks breaking down
Vans World the new hose worked but now in replacing pretty much my whole cooling system, cant find where my coolant is draining to and no sign of bad head gasket so lets hope it all works lol
Let me know what you find out. I’m curious where your coolant is going. We sold my Chevy. But it ended up loosing coolant and never could find out where is was going either.
I gotta do this to my 88 so thanks for posting this video.
if you don't want it snap off do this. Get a torch with MAP gas. the yellow bottle. and heater hot. use a cordless impact drill with the needed socket on it. and start tapping the drill trigger. then after 10 taps hold the trigger down and pray it works.
it is the impacts that drive it lose . not the pounds of torque your cranking down on it.. also aluminum to iron or steel after time will always bond like a guy and a girl at a kegger.
Great idea. just install a hose fitting. Hopefully mine will not break...1992 GMC 4.3 liter..thanks for making this video.
Thanks for the video
I really, really, really really really appreciate you making this video.
I got a 92 GMC with the 4.3 looks like the same GM mickey mouse setup. I figure they did this quick connect bs just to speed the assembly line up 10 seconds or something.
Haha. Yeah it’s a very poor design. Good luck getting the old one out if your changing the whole thing out like I did. 😁👍
I have to do this as well on my 92 4.3 .
YUP! I feel your pain! I had mine break before and had to ream it out. It was a real PIA, but I did clean the threads with a pick. Be sure to put anti-seize on the threads!!! I think it comes with thread-locker on the threads.
Thanks for this video. I am going to have to do this and this video will be very helpful.
Good luck. It’s a rough job if that fitting breaks off in the intake. Just go easy at it. Take your time. 👍😁. Thanks for leaving a comment and for watching 👍😁
best decision you could make changing fitting styles those quick connect fittings are a joke iam going to change mine it's seeping iam going to use them same fitting you did it won't leak again after that I've got a tool to get the old one out if it breaks off and it probably will! great video very helpful!
Thanks for watching. It's still holding up. Good luck getting the old one out 👍😁
Van Elicker might not break off because it's been replaced before a time or too the after market ones are not as brittle supposedly but wont know till I tare in on it lol!
Greg Robinson lol. Let's hope so. It was heck getting the broken one out of my intake lol. Let me know how it works out for you.👍😁
Good job! It looks like this is a real bear to get to! You did a great job with the conversion. That should eliminate this problem if you ever have to replace the hose again in the future.
Thanks. Yep. Shouldn’t have any more issues with that part leaking lol. 👍
Thid video gets A+++ 😉
😉😁
Nice video.. I got a 1994 chevy Silverado. Same motor u got. Havent replaced that yet
Thank you. 👍😁 Maybe you won’t ever have to change it. 👍😁
I dont have one on there. I just left autozone. They dont have it.llol.
Lol 👍😁
It there a bypass by chance??
What do I do if the threading is messed up?
What size is that clamp nut in the middle of the hose
I have a similar setup with the alternate quick disconnect. How many feet of hose is that to make that curve into the heater core?
Im not sure. I had to play with it to keep it from kinking. My truck in in the shop with transmission issues right now so I cant check. Sorry. I bought 5 feet of hose to do this project and I have extra left over. www.gofundme.com/5ppxtr-transmission-repair
Where can we buy the hose fitting that you used?
Thank you for sharing. Where can I get that hose fitting/ nipple. I have the same engine and want to do away with that quick disconnect fitting like you did.
Mark Robinson my cousin gave it to me. Any auto parts store will have them. Show them the video. Thanks for watching. And please subscribe to my channel. There will be a new video tomorrow and every Thursday 😁👍
1/2 pipe nipple with 5/8 or 1/2 (depending on the truck) barbed end, any hardware store............
So did you have to tap the threads because of used to hack saw
Nope. I couldn’t find a tap big enough at any local parts store. I just had to work the threads on the nipple slowly
exact same problem, that bolt always breaks
These things suck to work on lol
My 99 Yukon is leaking and when I disconnected it the parts came out o-ring 3 plastic parts I don't know exactly the order to put them back .I believe it's a check valve does the new one have the internal parts?
Yep. The new one does.
@@VansWorld thanks I am retired so every dollar counts.
Do you happen to know the sizes of the hoses that are connected to the heater core? I'm trying to flush my system & wanted to buy hoses to connect to them to flush it.
Sure don’t. But the local parts store should know. It would be the same size as the heater core hose.
you have to throw away the antifreeze first ?or you do not need to throw away the antifreeze?
I didn't throw away any antifreeze. Thanks for watching
Yes you have to throw out the antifreeze because the intake is full of antifreeze and you won't be able to chip and clean the adapter in case it breaks down
i got lucky mine came right off
You got very lucky lol. 👍😁
What size tap did you use?
Leonardo Prieto no one had a tap that big. I had to use the fitting as a tap and it was hard to get started but it worked
My cousin gave it to me. The auto parts store will have them. Show them the video they will know what it is. Thanks for watching. Please subscribe. I will have a new video tomorrow and every Thursday 😁👍
Right on
I Got the same issue . What a dumb design
Yes 90% of the time this thing breaks down. I just replaced mine at it was a pain in the ass. I did it my own way but it worked great. Gm engineer sucks with this piece of crap hose.
Same issue on my 87 Elko, thanks for this video! Life saver!
