Great views from the bike. Just watched 'Birdy Bike & DJI Neo Flying Together' and man that little DJI Neo is neat! Especially the follow mode, ideal for on a bike.
Very cool. That's impressive. I'd love to try one out. I wonder if it can only follow. Or is it possible to have it in front of the bicycle and tracking you while filming from the front?
I guess whether you'll get a lot of use out of that bicycle is where you live. I found it difficult to ride a bicycle in Kuala Lumpur, for example. It was so challenging to cover any kind of distance that I essentially gave up and put the bicycle away. Luckily KL has an extensive transit system. Here in Port Dickson, cycling is a reasonable and even pleasant way of getting around. I'm not sure about other smaller cities around Malaysia. Interestingly, other major cities that I've visited around the world have all been reasonable places to ride a bicycle. Big cities can be busy and have lots of traffic but it's generally fine to ride a bicycle, even in places like Taipei and Bangkok and Toronto. Kuala Lumpur just sits in its own category. 😀
@@PlanetDougtown planners in KL Places cars over pedestrian and bicycles. All roads are meant for zero barrier car usage. No traffic light. No junction. Drive at high speed with zero disturbance. Including in urban areas.
Ever since I put this bike together, I've wondered about a few things. I wondered if I got the sizing right, for example. There's something about a mountain bike frame that makes it look and even feel smaller than it is. When I see pictures or video of myself riding this bicycle, it looks too small for me. But that could just be a visual thing. But it has definitely been with me for a long time. I get a lot of pleasure out of riding it or even just looking at it. Feels like an old faithful friend, as you said.
Is that an invitation to come to Penang? A suggestion? 🙂 Actually, the last time I was in Penang, a friend lent me his Brompton folding bicycle and I rode it around Georgetown a fair bit. It wasn't the same as riding this bicycle, however. Not as comfortable. But it was still fun to have a bike of some kind.
yeah...southeast asia's trademark iron fences/gates & locks 😂.. it remains a mystery to me (and ive travelled a bit in my 50 yrs lifetime) as to why north american homes (in suburbs, smalltowns particularly) are usually in open front yard, un-gated, compounds 😅.. how do you keep away your neighbours' pesky pets, let alone stave off burglars. And furthermore, to think that western societies are generally more private-centric ? Maybe one day, Im just gonna ask AI chapgpt to explain this mystery 😂
one thing about cycling in malaysia, and i'm sure everywhere else, is dogs. you may say oh well they're just barking, but no, believe me they chase you and sometime bites. it hasn't happen to me yet but i heard some people experienced it. so watch out for dogs.
Pretty much all the areas up until 37:00 are reclaimed land. The water’s edge at around 21:00 was not there decades ago. The old PD town is around 40:00 I don’t mind the development, the town needed a bit of a boost and a change. Surely you went for a dip at some point during your stay?
Luckily, we've also had a ton of rain. I'm never exactly happy to see it raining outside. It limits what I can do and makes life more difficult. But on the positive side, it cools everything down for a while until the sun comes back out.
That depends on whatever was going on in my life at the time. If I was actually on a bicycle tour, of course I just rode my bike from place to place around the country. And then I would just ride around checking out different hotels and trying to find one that was bike-friendly. While I've been in Malaysia, I haven't used the bicycle very much. I had it in storage at a hostel and at a friend's house. And then I moved it from place to place in the back of a van. The bike was disassembled to make it smaller and then I could throw it into a vehicle and bring it somewhere else.
I did? I guess I'm not surprised. 😅 AI is on my mind quite a bit these days. It feels like it is having a large impact on RUclips, and to me the effect feels extremely negative. I see so much video content on RUclips that is clearly being pumped out at high volumes by computers and AI systems. They seem to be a bit of a cash grab, because they're such low-quality videos. The AI script is just repeating a bunch of nonsense it cobbled together from around the internet. And the pronunciation of English words comes across as lazy and awful. Lots of entire channels themselves seem to have been created by AI and then the videos are all AI generated. I noticed that RUclips has now put in place a question for every video you post where you have to specify whether the content has been altered by AI in any way. I wonder what that policy means for entire videos and channels that were created by AI. It'll be interesting to see how all this plays out in the future. But for now, my RUclips experience has gotten much worse because of AI-generayed content.

Glad to see you're on the bike again, Doug.

Glad you enjoyed it. Port Dickson IS a pleasant town. The more time I spend here, the more I appreciate it.

They really have the best Zus outlet in Malaysia. I miss that Zus.
Waiting for your new episodes riding your bike around Malaysia peninsula.
More than once, I've had that possibility rolling around in my head. It hasn't happened so far, but maybe.
your cycling is inspiring me to buy a bicycle

It feels good to be riding the bicycle, as well. It's been a while since I've had regular access to one, so I've forgotten how good it feels. 👍

how do you transport your bike between accommodations?
just ride it to the destination i guess......----

Say that again, "hot and sweaty"?
That's why we drive everywhere.
you're only sweaty when you seldom ride bicycles. for people who cycle regularly it takes about 5 to 10 km to sweat even when cycling fast.
@@thewaywardcyclist3992 I'm pretty sure that's not true under a cloudless tropical sky
