Love it - Shaun is one of the only people who do that. When he has the lady Sonia with her, she can't shut up, and then finally she has them talking about "her issues" with the case they are talking about. So, I turn it off. Love the no agenda, my issues, and no interruptions.

I've heard many my brother was a prison guard at San Quentin in the 70's. He feed Manson through a slit in his door and took him to exercise on the yard.... A lot of illegal things took place in there during that time... I'm sure it still does...

John Abbot is that dude. Reminds me of family members. For dudes that do real time they become self aware and aware of every move sound and person around them just like someone that kills in service during war. They get that dead stare and calm. It's survival and pure animal instinct. Can't give props for his crimes but I give him props for sharing his stories
This guy was more than a common criminal, he has ties to FBI handlers and covert intelligence actions including arms for drugs, Iran Contra gun running and domestic assassinations on US soil. Look up his relationship with Phillip Arthur Thompson and the murder of Paul Morasca.

John Abbott sounds like Dennis Hopper and has got me searching real estate websites looking for 40 hectare / 100 Acre blocks suitable for pine tree growth. Can’t wait to watch part three tonight.
They say a psychopath is born but a sociopath is made. It seems that American prison forces people to become sociopathic. And by sociopathic, I don't necessarily mean a guy who murders with abandon and hurts everyone they encounter. But someone who can easily compartmentalise their empathy, engage in behaviour that is anti social, and absolutely switch off emotion with relative ease. Would I be wrong in assuming that American jails are breeding grounds for sociopathic behaviour

I have never been to prison, but lived a hard life. I listen to these convicts and realize I think exactly as they do. Shame on any foolish person that judges men who have done time. We are not so different.
If your interviews have taught me anything Shaun, it's that ex con's needn't be defined by their pasts. We should be giving the right people space and opportunities to start fresh and add value to our society.
This guy says "I'm not a tough guy" then talks about robbing drug dealers at gun point, shoot outs with the police, prison fights to the death, standing up to the heaviest hitters in the yard etc etc. The man is way way past tough on the hardness meter.
He reminds me SO much of someone I knew....his almost mono tone, his storytelling depth and style, his dry sense of humor, his verbal cadence. His name was Tim, I knew him from AA. He also was an ex con, and an extremely peaceful, yet imtimidating and obviously odd/quirky...but you knew he could easily kill you, without a change of facial expression. So eerie seeing this, it's like Tim is talking.
He has empathy, he just isn't phased by much. You can tell he understands others emotionally, not just intellectually by the way he understands certain dynamics, but I can't put my finger on why.

Some people look like that they have their life experiences imprinted on their face -> John is definitely one of those people. He is also a very good and calm story teller - could listen to him all day. He doesn't brag about anything, you can really tell he is disgusted by these experiences.

A very smart guy, I would have liked to have heard more of his life in the UK and how he came to own a lot of property in New Zealand that he abandoned when it was revealed who he was, there are no warrants for him anywhere but US cops "would like to speak to him" about Valerie's murder.. so why the fear?? .. also a few things don't add up in this story, as you ( Shaun) rightly questioned he should have been giving extra time for escaping, I don't believe he was black ops CIA but it has been proven his accomplice was..and also proved that he was also a rapist/Murderer.. as for Valerie McDonald a few things don't add up, he doesn't mention that he skipped town to go to Canada when Valerie went missing,.. - the whole Canada thing seemed random did it not?- or that Valerie's body was found next to the Canadian border or that as well as her jacket and hair there was also receipts for cement and digging implements found in Abbots car .. I'm glad you got this guy on camera .. lets see will he come in again and discuss that part of his life & why he doesn't simply sue the media for slander if he is so confident that he played no part in Valerie's murder

I never watch a movie this long; I get easily bored with them, but All of Shauns interviews show a perspective, of actual hope, in true human beings...Bad things DO happen to Good people! These interviews should provide everyone an introspective view of their own lives, and see that its not that bad..Shit happens! Love being reminded of that!
I think John has a lot more stories to tell but I don't think he's in a position to tell them. What a shame. Several of these higher IQ guys definitely have good interviews and I'd love to hear more of their life stories...what ever they can share.

I'm 23 minutes in and I think I'm going to enjoy this...I believe this guy is being truthful. I listened to the Gianni Russo interview on Valuetainment yesterday and by the time he was "recalling" his "I was kidnapped by Pablo Escobar" story, it became clear he had crossed the line of exaggeration and hyperbole to straight-up bullshit! Btw, for the record Valuetainment's interviews are usually first class.
Great guest! I did time with an old school convict in LA County once. Guy has the same demeanor, told some fascinating stories about San Quinten and Folsom back in the day. The joint was a whole different experience back then. John reminds me a lot of him
I know how this guy can make millions legally. WRITE A BOOK. I’d buy it and I’d tell my friends to buy it too. This guy had me glued the screen for 2 1/2 hours!
These interviews are superb Shaun.Some of the blokes you get on have some incredible stories.I’ll have one of these on in the background & they’re brilliant to listen to.
A couple things caught my attention. The first thing is how he sets up the situation with his brother in such a way that his brother is almost at fault. “He stole a car, so I had to rob a jewelry store.” The other thing that I noticed is how quickly his crimes became violent. That’s usually the sign of a sociopath, not a kid getting caught up in a burglary. He became a hardened violent criminal very quickly.
It's actually quite sad too. With his intelligence (he obviously has some charisma too) he really could have been something so much more and not have to have spent that time in prison and become even more hardened on the inside. I did sense some emotion from his brother dying though, maybe I'm imagining it. Such stupid decisions that turned his life in a bad direction.

I have a friend who did several years in Folsom and San Quentin in the early 70's to the early 80's. He told me about a guy in San Quentin they called "Pin Cushion Smitty" that was stabbed 60+ times and lived.

I would have liked to have heard more of his life in the UK and how he came to own a lot of property in New Zealand that he abandoned when it was revealed who he was, there are no warrants for him anywhere but US cops "would like to speak to him" about Valerie's murder.. so why the fear??
.. also a few things don't add up in this story, as you ( Shaun) rightly questioned he should have been giving extra time for escaping, I don't believe he was black ops CIA but it has been proven his accomplice was..and also proved that he was also a rapist/Murderer.. as for Valerie McDonald a few things don't add up, he doesn't mention that he skipped town to go to Canada when Valerie went missing,.. - the whole Canada thing seemed random did it not?- or that Valerie's body was found next to the Canadian border or that as well as her jacket and hair there was also receipts for cement and digging implements found in Abbots car .. I'm glad you got this guy on camera .. lets see will he come in again and discuss that part of his life & why he doesn't simply sue the media for slander if he is so confident that he played no part in Valerie's murder
Theirs so many points that just don't add up and how he didn't get his face slapped off his shoulders at least twice is beyond me.., I get a gut feeling he chatts a little shit.., and wild man would eat this guy if he tried robbing Shaun :)

I never watch a movie this long; I get easily bored with them, but All of Shauns interviews show a perspective, of actual hope, in true human beings...Bad things DO happen to Good people! These interviews should provide everyone an introspective view of their own lives, and see that its not that bad..Shit happens! Love being reminded of that!

I think John has a lot more stories to tell but I don't think he's in a position to tell them. What a shame. Several of these higher IQ guys definitely have good interviews and I'd love to hear more of their life stories...what ever they can share.

I'm 23 minutes in and I think I'm going to enjoy this...I believe this guy is being truthful. I listened to the Gianni Russo interview on Valuetainment yesterday and by the time he was "recalling" his "I was kidnapped by Pablo Escobar" story, it became clear he had crossed the line of exaggeration and hyperbole to straight-up bullshit! Btw, for the record Valuetainment's interviews are usually first class.
I watched Russo's performance last night and agree with you, it was straight-up bullshit.

Great guest! I did time with an old school convict in LA County once. Guy has the same demeanor, told some fascinating stories about San Quinten and Folsom back in the day. The joint was a whole different experience back then.

A couple things caught my attention. The first thing is how he sets up the situation with his brother in such a way that his brother is almost at fault. “He stole a car, so I had to rob a jewelry store.” The other thing that I noticed is how quickly his crimes became violent. That’s usually the sign of a sociopath, not a kid getting caught up in a burglary. He became a hardened violent criminal very quickly.
It's actually quite sad too. With his intelligence (he obviously has some charisma too) he really could have been something so much more and not have to have spent that time in prison and become even more hardened on the inside. I did sense some emotion from his brother dying though, maybe I'm imagining it. Such stupid decisions that turned his life in a bad direction.

@@GigaChef69420 He wouldnt be able to. Abbott has far more inner strength from his experiences of dealing head on with problems without relying on medication or having the law on his side to keep him safe

I have a friend who did several years in Folsom and San Quentin in the early 70's to the early 80's. He told me about a guy in San Quentin they called "Pin Cushion Smitty" that was stabbed 60+ times and lived.
