    Spd 30 is the best one because in 20 pro there are complains about electricity leakage on the rubber pads and on the out put jacks.
    Which can damage the pA audio system connected.
    At the same time spd 30 is having usb midi function by which we can play any sound on pad using midi.
    No matter if the sounds are from 20 or spd 20 pro.
    But spd 20pro is not having this usb midi option which makes it a bit backward.
    At the same time spd 30 has a good design and functions.
    Like-
    Big screen for comfortable interface.
    Lights on each one trigger pad for low light case.
    And my very favorite one seperate volume knobs for master output and headphones.
    This feature is best when u r on the live stage and u have to edit a kit.
    U can just reduce the master one and with the headphones on u can get ur work done.
    Spd 30 has more real accoustic drums feeling than spd 20 pro.
    20 pro is good for indian sounds.
    But as earlier mentioned any sound can be played on spd 30 via usb midi feature.which is unavailable in spd 20 pro.
    Here is a complain video on spd 20pro electricity leakage problem

      Hi.
      No issues with the electricity leakage on the EU/UK version.... :)
      And, SPD 20 Pro does have MIDI I/O. I use mine all the time to record into/play back from Cubase 11.
      The sounds are much clearer and cut through the mix better in the SPD-20 Pro. I believe this is down to the EQ on each sound, plus an overall EQ on the kits.
      The SPD-30 definitely has a wider pallette of sounds though....but it depends on what you want it for. I use more of the e-drum sounds )808/909 etc) than the acoustics anyways.

    • @glorytogod2350
      @glorytogod2350 3 года назад

      @@AudiophiliacUK yes sure but i think indian variation of 20 pro has this trouble.
      I think you should use kontakt library
      808 and 909 kits wide variations are available.i use with logic pro X and pro tools.
      And its much easier to use with spd 30 via usb midi than midi in or out port.
      Anyways it was my experience.

      A device like that wouldn't pass safety regulations. There was crosstalk pad leakage with the old SPD-20, but I think a firmware updated fixed that.

    • @AudiophiliacUK
      @AudiophiliacUK  3 года назад

      @@circedge Agreed. Besides the fact that the Piezo units in the pads don't send enough juice to shock a mouse, never mind affect a PA system!

      @glory to god
      You are mistaken about the SPD-30 having more acoustic kits btw... The 20 Pro has twice the number of kicks and snares, most of which are acoustic based.
      SPD-30= 23 Kicks & 50 Snares. There are 37 Tom sounds to choose from.
      SPD-20 Pro= 55 Kicks & 104 Snares. There are 58 Tom sounds to choose from.
      There are fewer preset kits from Roland that are acoustic in the 20 Pro, but you have wider variety of sounds to choose from to create your own :)

    I have a SPD 20. I use a single QSC K8.2 speaker plugging straight in with no mixer. Using just a 1/4" to 1/4" TS cable from mono out works fine. Question: Would using dual TS from Roland to XLR into speaker improve sound or give any more gain?

    • @AudiophiliacUK
      @AudiophiliacUK  10 месяцев назад +1

      Hi.
      No. Using a dual TS to XLR won't improve the sound or give any more gain....You need a pre-amp if that's what you're looking for (or a bigger amp??)
      You really need a speaker setup with a bigger speaker. The 8" won't replicate the bottom end very well. You need a 12" really, but a 15" is best.

    El SPD 20 Pro es un rejunte de sonidos del SPD 20 original, con nuevas muestras (lo mismo que hicieron con el SPD 20X). El SPD 30, teniendo menos sonidos, son mucho más realistas, teniendo en cuenta que este octapad salió en el 2010.

    I really don't care about the MIDI to USB function of the 30, it would be great if it was easy to edit kits on the fly, change some sounds for a pad sometimes, etc.

    Why do you think the SPD 20 is cheaper than the 30? Is it less quality? What is the main difference between the two?

    • @AudiophiliacUK
      @AudiophiliacUK  2 года назад +1

      Cheaper probably because it's not a new technological development, design wise or in the implementation. The R&D was done in the 90's (the original came out in 1998) so the overall cost was lower to start with. They updated the sounds and effects in it, but left out more modern interface options like a USB connection as this would have entailed a reworked motherboard for it.
      The main differences (IMHO) are that many of the sounds are newer and more modern in the 20, the pads are much more sensitive (can be played with hands if you want, instead of sticks), the editing of kits/sounds is slightly slower as the 30 has the endless encoder dial and the 20 has buttons, and it has more effects and sound processing capabilites (compression etc) than the 30.
      I know that the 20 was SOOOO popular in India that Roland decided to update it specifically for their market. Many of the sounds are specifically tailored for the Indian music scene (there are a LOT of them), but really.... there was absolutely no reason they couldn't have provided all the sounds that were included in the 30 with it as well. The loss of some of the African sounds and various world instruments in the SPD20 Pro is sad. :(

      @@AudiophiliacUK thank you so much for the reply! I actually had a choice between the 20 pro and a used 30 at the same price. I went for the 20 pro. I thought the build felt nicer and the pads more sensitive. My plan is to use it as a practice kit for low volume and footprint. I actually like the simple interface. I will be focusing on creating acoustic drum kits. Let me know if you have any recommendations for a nice sounding kit :-)
