    How do you know how long for the cable from wheel to motor?
    Do you do all that then mount the steering box to the boat?
    How does that placement work?
    How do you know what to buy for the boat you own?

    I cant find any seller of helm/cable kits that includes an 11 foot cable. They all sell 10-12-13-14-16 ft. Its devilish. Now, instead of a 71$ kit that includes everything it appears I'm stuck with buying an 11 ft cable for 127$ and the rest of the chinese crap seperately.
    It'll be over 200$ I'm sure. The RPD console shipped Friday and with the old fake mahogany side console ripped out of my 84 13 ft Boston Whaler Super Sport I'll have necessary leeway to mount the console to accomodate a 10 or 12 ft cable.
    Great 2 part video series btw. Thanks very much.

    best vid on this I've seen yet! Thanks for the console tip. A little spendy, $300 but might have to pull the trigger if can't find a good one for less. That is some beefy plastic, do you know what kind of plastic it is?

      Happy to help! One of my motivations for making such a detail video was I couldn't find anything I was looking for before tackling this project. I'm glad it was able to help, truly wanted this info out there for people to be able to tackle these kind of projects themselves.

      wow, @@mvboutdoors I stepped on a pan with my steering wheel hardware, and found everything that catapulted except the half-moon, little woodruff key and it went into foliage. Magnet, nothing helping, so I made one with a washer. holding it up to my diamond tile saw and dunking it in water (and repeat) and trying it until it fit XD

    Is there any particular way to ensure the steering wheel is straight when connected to the outboard? About to tackle this job in the next day or so and was curious about that but all the videos I watch no one seems to talk about it… great video! I will be referencing it while I do mine.

    • @mvboutdoors
      @mvboutdoors  Год назад +2

      Yes there is, in the instructions it shows you where to position the wheel before you wind on the steering cable for it to sit straight.

    Hi, nice video, I have the same, but missing the hitch, and i'm having issues getting it to stay in position. Is the hitch part of the installation? And keeps it in place? Cheers!

    Just subscribed to your channel, your boat looks great! How much did the carpet add to the weight of the boat? Can you still fit 3 people in the boat with all of your ugrades and be within the weight limit?

    • @mvboutdoors
      @mvboutdoors  Год назад +1

      Welcome aboard! I don't have an exact number on the weight addtions but we are well within the capacity. The listed capacity on the boat is 940 lbs, The motor is about 130lns so we have about 800 lb to play with. The floor is aluminum, the carpeted side paneling and storage seat is thin plywood to reduce weight and the side console and seats are negligible. In addition, float pods were added to the boat to cancel out the weight of the motor. Three people could comfortably sit in the boat, right now I have it set up for two people and a child but if someone wanted to sit up front, that storage hatch area was made to double as a seat so there's more than enough room!

      @@mvboutdoors I just bought a 4 stroke 15 hp motor for my jon boat, what's it cost to convert add a steering wheel?

    • @mvboutdoors
      @mvboutdoors  Год назад +2

      It depends on how quality you go with the parts. If you went with brand new mercury parts it would be a couple hundred easy + the side console. If you went with offbrand cables, steering box, a used control box, not too bad. You also need to see if your outboard has the linkage setup to use controls or if you need to purchase anything like that for the outboard.

    Great video! I was thinking about doing this to my Jon boat but curious how much the boat leans when driving, having it on the side like that? Do they make center consoles as well?

    • @mvboutdoors
      @mvboutdoors  6 месяцев назад +1

      It leans while stationary but once underway it levels out. They do make center consoles, I'd like to try one of those next time.

      It didn't feel stiff, like any other boat steering system. Very easy to turn on the water.

    hello can i do thi to my boat with an 6hp motor

    • @mvboutdoors
      @mvboutdoors  3 месяца назад

      It would depend if they make a remote control kit for the outboard. Steering should be easier but throttle you need the right connections for the cables on the outboard.

    you could've of just did a hydraulic steering kit at 1/2 the cost it would of looked a lot cleaner hidden lines and everything and had super smooth steering
