I was 22 years old and at the very front of the stage when Sheila sung this in 1992. I meditated for 20 minutes prior to her coming out on stage. I was in a deep trance by the time she kneeled and prepared to sing. I will never forget this day and how deeply I was moved. Thankyou Sheila Chandra for sharing your voice with our world. ❤
Love is an ocean... Dear Sheila, your voice and words bring me back again and again to this song since my father mades me listen to it maybe 15 years ago. I will try to sing it on Saturday with friends to honor you and the Ocean of love all around us, and inside each of us 🙏❣🌊
Maaan ....its taken me more than THIRTY years to find this !. Muuuuuch slower than her original dance version but still great none the less. Thanks for posting🙏
Finally found this song I remember it from when I was a kid. All I could remember is your eyes are an ocean which is a common in lyrics. I was thinking it was anoushka Shankar possibly. Here in 2022 still bumpin
I came to this video from an article online about the desperate heat waves in India and Pakistan. Fortunate me. Wow. What an incredibly beautiful voice!!
She sung her song. Her voice is otherworldly and almost eerie to listen to knowing her story. Maybe God silenced her so us mere mortals could sound half decent! We are blessed an honoured to hear your voice Sheila, it is almost too pure for this world 🥀
I sort of also think her vocal impairment comes from something similar. Not necessarily so we could sound as good, but for some other reason where spiritual and physiological boundaries meet.
Friend of this user: She didn't lose her ability to sing because of a god. A loving god would not place someone purposefully in a position where they are tortured and never given mercy, aside from their eventual death. I get she was religious too, but as someone who is disabled and suffers from terrible pain every day of my life, I find other people's doing this to be insulting. Telling a writhing me or a mother her elementary school aged son died of cancer because of a bettering of anything is just heinous. Bad things happen in the reality you live in, where a tree has fallen on a mother and infant child during a hurricane and killed them. I get clinging to the fantasy religion helps you cope with how scary the world is, but you can insult someone terribly by utilizing your faith in this assuming way. Please stop trying to white wash our sufferings with some foolishness like this. I find it insulting and kind of gross. Not everything has a bigger meaning or purpose. Sometimes writhing and sorrow is just writhing and sorrow. Loss is loss. And she not only lost her ability to utilize her singing anymore, Sheila struggles to eat and even speak anymore. Nothing good comes from the silencing of a voice. Have a good day and please stop doing this.
i agree that her condition is from an otherworldly/paranormal source, but not from a loving god. much more likely the workings of some envious, hateful, spiteful, and most definitely metaphorically evil force/demon/spirit.
@@PandaNFriends23 I'm sorry for what you've been through. You misread my comment and applied your own meaning to it. What you described was not the meaning I intended or wrote in my comment. I hope you find peace with what you are experiencing.
....every so lonely as i sank into your eyes ... my soul observed you sing... my heart is the river to you ocean SC. Your a brilliant light Sheila...may the world hear and feel the frequency of you sing. Thank you.
What a voice. This one has become areal favourite of mine in manny ways. I found the song, and album in a very special place. I take the place and what happened there with me everywhere I go. Thank you, Sheila,

Yes we should really thank her for such a lovely display of devotion
yes, I was lucky enough to be at the same concert, spine tingling. Did you go to her smaller show and talk? she taught us about ragas.
That music could only come from the purest of hearts. Sheila Chandra, you are and always will be an angel.
Very true ....look at the work she is currently involved in
Sheila goes way beyond her voice and music, if that makes any sense. One of the very best 🙏🏻❤️
I was a fire marshal at Womad in Morecambe in the big top in 1992 when she performed this and she utterly hypnotised me... Beautiful ❤

The ocean refuses no river. Love this song forever.
....Rivers are the grasping fingers of the OCEAN, extended outreach upon the EARTH, - Rivers are the MYCELIUM of THE SEA....

This will forever be a memory for me.
Every time I come back to Chandra’s performance, it just takes my breath away,,
Tears in my eyes….
Me as well... every single time, I will cry to the sound of her mesmerizing voice! She shakes my world with her voice.
Same here, always tears of joy.
Tears of joy always.
one of the most amazing songs ive ever heard. it shoots straight thru to the emotional core. to the heart. its magic.
The “emotional core”, so that’s why I weep a little when I listen to this song. Sheila is beautiful 🙏🏻❤️
In some Discos / Clubs in Northern Italy this track was used as the beginning DJ Set in the Cosmic Music / Afro Funky genre in the 80s.
Holy shit that voice man absolutely incredible
So sad that her voice was lost😢
Love is an ocean...

In the beginning the way she smiles with rejoice along with the audience at 0:31, and then shakes it off is so lovely

I think if your at your lowest point in life then you get your ass to a place like this and soak this in. It's awesome
Utterly captivating. Does she still perform publicly? I am transported to another universe when I close my eyes and listen to Sheila Chandra.
Unfortunately she stopped performing due to burning mouth syndrome
Death receives everyone, as the sea accepts all the rivers that flow into it.
I melted.
