- A 10News story about a pregnant woman begging for money with a young boy at her feet -- a woman who then got into a Mercedes-Benz and drove off laughing -- has gone viral. And now it appears she was spotted in another area begging for money.

My mother worked at a homeless shelter for a year because she "wanted to help". It certainly helped her get a incredible education. The "homeless" there had carefully constructed "programs" like where and what day they would stand and all had VERY nice, new cell phones. Most received govt checks monthly which got turned over to the person who ran the shelter and he/she would in turn, help them procure drugs, alcohol....you name it. The "shelter" was finally shut down by its board because these allegations became very substantiated and the person left the town. As I heard once, many of us at one time or another, need a hand up, not a hand out. I commend my mom for sticking with it for a year, because she thought she could make a difference in at least one persons life. Maybe she did.
I also worked as a volunteer at a homeless shelter for a few months and experienced the same. The director and employees drove brand new vehicles, wore expensive clothes, and took expensive vacations while running a "non-profit". Totally disgusting!😢
I pray she did and actually believe she did...sincerely. Thank you for sharing this. My mom is in very poor health now but I feel as though if she thought she could benefit one "down and out" person, she would do it again with what strength she has remaining. I hope to pick up and carry that torch one day, when I am in a place that is better spiritually/mentally. That is what life is about, imvho.

I’m sure they’re up to no good but I once lost my very good job unexpectedly and had a very difficult time finding a new one during the crash in 2008/2009. At one point, I had to drive to a food bank at the local church in my Mercedes. It was humiliating, not only because I was jobless and near homeless but also because I was terrified someone would see me getting into my Mercedes with my bags of food from the Church. Then they would think I was a scammer.
This was exactly my thoughts seeing this family. It’s really messed up that they blasted them on the news without even knowing their story. No one begs if they have other options.

There's a guy who regularly panhandles at the Costco exit adjacent to my neighborhood. It's frustrating watching people hand him money because he's an absolute menace to the neighborhood. Breaking into cars, threatening the neighbors and even the mail man, and littering. Please people, stop handing these people cash! Everyone has their oun story, but there's alot of career manipulators, and professional victims.

The worst part. You offer them food and all they want is your money. Do yourself a favour. You see them on the street don't even make eye contact. Act like they do not exist
I can understand peoples outrage on this story. I was Homeless for 2 years in Lincoln Nebraska while fighting social security over medical disability. The people in Lincoln have great hearts and helped me a lot and even went to extremes to help me while i was in need. Please don't let people like this sway you against helping others. I was so grateful to even get a sandwich from people who took the time to get me one. Even leftovers from people after dinner were fantastic and very much appreciated. There are so many people who helped me and I wish I could thank all of them personally for taking the time to let me know someone cared. Thank you to all those who helped and all those who continue to help others. By the way I finally won and am no longer homeless

I've seen them begging in Nanuet, NY. They told me they are from Romania but the woman also spoke Spanish. I helped them by giving them information about local services but they never went to get assistance. They continued to beg for a while, though.
Romanian is a Romance language. Italian, French, Spanish, Romanian, Portuguese, Catalan, etc. are Romance languages. It is easy for us to learn one or more of these languages. For example: Spanish speakers understand Portuguese and Italian. We can translate a paragraph or phrase written in French. Europe has had a problem with Romanians.

I've been in a position that I put myself in years ago when I was doing drugs and my family became tired and scared of my antics and threw me out of the house which they had every right. I sought any job I could find to feed myself not beg.

About 35 years ago, this was before the Internet. I was in a S.F. shopping mall, a young “mother” one hand dragging a 2 YO boy and the other hand with an empty gas can. She said she ran out of gas. Without thinking, I gave her some money. On the way to my car, I was thinking: who in this world would plan to run out of gas and have an empty gas can? I went back and saw her begging from others. I ask her to show me her car. She gave me this really ugly look, dragged the kid to her car, jump in and drove off.
Another one about 5 years ago when I was coming out of this shopping lot parking in San Jose. A male beggar had his back turn facing me. As I drove past him and I saw why. He was busy counting cash, 5 inch thick

Living close to nyc, I’ve had friends who would go just to panhandle. Came from nice homes with good parents. Just lazy and pathetic people who didn’t want to work after high school.
I live in Phoenix Arizona and Its more work standing out in the heat pan handling than it is having a job. I dont see how its any less work. I'd rather be sitting behind a desk in air conditioning taking phone calls setting appointments rather than standing in the heat holding a sign up for hours everyday.

I'm a full-time Uber driver and I always carry food with me, which I give to beggars who actually look down and out. But I never give money. As long as tax-free money can be made there will be con-artists like these people.

I JUST MOVED TO LOS ANGELES AND THERE ARE ALOT OF THEM HERE. I WAS COMING FROM MY JOB INTERVIEW WHEN AN OLD LADY ON A WALKER STOPPED ME AND ASKED ME TO BUY HER SOMETHING TO EAT. WE WALKED TO THE STORE TOGETHER AND I GOT HER A BAG OF JUNK FOOD OF HER CHOICE, THEN SHE PROCEEDED TO ASK FOR MY EBT CARD, THEN SHE DEMANDED THAT I GIVE IT TO HER TWICE. I LAUGHED AND TOLD HER IN A NICE WAY THAT I WASN'T GIVING HER MY CARD. SHE THEN TURNED AROUND AND ASKED PEOPLE BEHIND US FOR MONEY. NOW I'M WANDERING IF SHE REALLY ATE ALL THE FOOD I BOUGHT FOR HER AND IT CAME OUT $30, GOTTA BE CAREFUL

I saw the same couple in Georgia, begging at a Walmart. One day the man was there holding the sign and the next day he was sitting in a van a couple of spaces away watching. This was in 2016 I believe.

I recently went to Rome and when I was there a guy came up to me with a paper cup wanting change. I didn't give him any money due to the fact his mobile phone went off when he was talking to me.
See that is the thing with most poor people. Even though they have a cell phone, a new car, new shoes, make up, toys for the kid, cable, a bar tab, a Saturday night at Applebees, that is all entitlements to them. They should be allowed to have that and still be able to collect welfare, food stamps, free heat, and everything else. I asked this girl once because I said if you can afford a bar tab why are you begging for money to buy diapers. "well I should be able to go out and have a drink once in a while." I said, not when you cannot afford diapers for your kid! The problem is, the government is spending our money so they do not care. Second, they always feel bad for the kid. The deadbeats know this. That is why they keep having kids so they can collect. At some point you have to say, enough is enough. Either you take care of your kid, or the kid goes with a family member who can care for them or in the system. All the system is doing is creating more dependency. Children learn what they live. The government needs to put their foot down and say, ' we will help you but you better get a better job or find another way to care for your child. IF not, we are cutting you off.' Then the message will get out there that just because you have a child does not entitle you to welfare. There is no responsibility with these people. None!

Homeless people need some way to call for jobs, keep in touch with family, etc. A cell phone is not a luxury these days. People may choose live in their car, even if they cannot pay rent. A car is needed for work, school, Dr. visits, etc. Do not judge what you have not experienced.
I was at Sacre Cour in Monmartre and when a friend of mine tried to avoid a gypsie girl accosting her a mob of gypsies appeared and tripped my friend. These people can be dangerous.
J P I have been homeless and lived in my car before, the only thing that saved me was my job. I put my stuff in storage. Sometimes bad circumstances happen. You can trust people and they can let you down. Sometimes people put you out of your living situation.
As far as welfare is concerned, you might not understand it. If you are receiving assistance, once you get a making minimum wage or more, you now receive too much to get the money they were giving you. The health insurance you were getting is cut off because you don't qualify anymore with the new income. Any other programs you were getting are gone because you work now. Who watches the kids? You have to pay for daycare or pay someone. What about insurance? If you job provides it, you can take that one. By the time they take insurance out of your check, plus tax, you can barely afford to live. How will you pay the rent? What are you eating then? And if you work a second job then you are not raising your child and child care ain't cheap! Even people with jobs know that.
The problem is that they don't have a system for you to transition from assistance to working. You need a period between when you start working and they snatch all the help they give you away. And fast food joints are always hiring but you need more than that to rise up above poverty with children.
I am Not condoning what they are doing. I don't think the government should take care of other people's kids for free. I work very hard and most of my working life I had 2 jobs. Working 2 times a day. I'm just saying what many people live through here. And telling mine, a friends, and close relatives story. Plus I see and hear about this daily where I work.
Contact the leasing office to see if they are really gone or if they are tenants, of if they were simply staying with some friends -- if they are tenants have the place under surveillance
