The Pokemon Company International has a habit of putting out Pokemon Card releases almost every week. Collection Boxes, Tins, and specialty boxes are constantly being released featuring a new promo on almost a weekly basis. This oversaturation of product might be great to fill store shelves, but Pokemon Card collectors seem to be rather sick of the constant releases. Gone are the days when Pokemon card demand greatly outweighed the supply and many collectors are referring to the Scarlet & Violet era of Pokemon Trading Cards as the Junk Wax era.
Pokemon Card collectors have evolved over the past couple of years and have done a very good job of letting their wallet and spending habits do the talking. FOMO seems to have decimated to a level of near non-existence and we have hit a point where nearly every single new Pokemon Card release is selling for below wholesale costs. This leaves many Pokemon Card Stores struggling at what products to purchase to fill their shelves. Only a few products seem to be in demand currently in the Pokemon Trading Card Game. These few products include Paldea Evolved Booster Boxes and Scarlet and Violet 151 products. Should Pokemon reprint these products to give stores something to sell? Let's talk about it!

I wonder if they're not printing more 151 because they're worried about cannibalizing sales of these much less popular S&V sets that are available right now.

There are quite a few S&V sets that definitely need reprints (ie. 151, Paldea Evolved, maybe Paradox Rift??). Card prices are getting unwieldy for sets less than a year old.
No 151 reprint is fine. It’s a short window and it makes it very desirable. Pivot , if you did, into 151 Japanese same art cheaper price point , just as enjoyable to open. Always be ready to move on to the next one

They absolutely need to reprint 151. The set is obviously very popular, the demand is there. I have no idea why they haven’t reprinted it with a huge wave yet. The set is too new to devalue peoples collections, we should be opening it and not saving it. I would love to see a 151 and a paldea evolved reprint.

@@valentinthomas5024 I’m cool with that, I think most people are. If I’m buying 151 for well under msrp, it’s a win. I’m in the hobby to have fun opening packs as WELL as have a valuable sealed collection. But nobody should be holding product that barely came out a year ago

They're coming out with so many new sets. I get that 151 is high in demand but I don't think the demand drives the Prints. If that were the case they would just reprint every set they've ever created. It will also completely devalue the singles which devalues the overall money that people are willing to pay for the set in general. It would basically get double de-valued at the same time that they're printing 3 new sets And it's not necessarily going to make people buy more pokemon cards just a different type of pokemon cards. I understand that people want every set to be easily available to everybody for a cheap price but that means that the cards that you're going to get will either have an insanely impossible pop rate like the greninja or every card that's pulled will be devalued instantly because everybody will have it.
I got to be honest Danny I haven’t watched you in a long time because I’m sick of hearing about how prices are skyrocketing from every single poketuber. It’s disgusting what has happened to this hobby but I know it’s not your fault, brother. It’s the egregious investor channels that get me, you inform us to get the most bang for our buck.

This made a lot of sense. Danny I have no idea how you make everything work and make a living. This is so difficult and stressful just watching you discuss what you do day to day. I will always support in my own way because I can tell you are passionate about this. You have to be or none of your struggles keeping your shop make sense.
Really interesting to see some of what your distributor has in stock and their prices and compare them to what I can get right now in Canada!

Hey, kinda random but could we (as viewers) get a copy of the excel sheets you used to calculate and compare average pack values a while back? Would help as we'd be able to account for price fluctations over the past few months
so how do lgs's like you survive based on the data you provided? Is the answer that its feast or famine and all depending on new product availability in stock?
Im curious about your take but do you think if they reprint a lot of these sets and then release team rocket it will hurt the other sets since everyone will be on team rocket?

Selling off my sword and shield collection, just posted it yesterday and had 3 hits same day on wanting to buy gotta get prices together not low balling for sure I'm gonna hold off for closest to market price
Some of the TCG stores in Australia seem to rely on prices increasing and hold a little stock. You can still buy some of the booster boxes from older sets from stores that are going for double, triple or even more that what they would have originally got them for. This probably helps them offset their selling of new S&V sets for about what they are getting them for
All we get for being a "certified hobby shop" is the icon next to our names. I WISH it gave us a break on fees. LOL
I messed up so bad this weekend. Went to my local target and they had rows of sleeved packs of SWSH lost origins. I bought 4 packs, went back the next day and they were all gone smh.
Next time, when Sword and Shield product of any kind is displayed, remove the budget and empty all of the contents of the wallet or bank account and or acquire all of said product. I've been there friend with Holon Phantoms and Burning Shadows.....sigh.....

Theres tons of product out there for less than msrp. Why would they reprint? That would say they really don't want stores to make profit.

I still don't know how some stores get by. Whether it's a card shop, or a clothing store, anytime I cross something in the mall or somewhere I'm like, How does that business make enough money selling what they sell to pay for the lease, utilities, employees and still make a profit...

One Piece just has a higher resell price and so it makes sense for businesses to switch. They can easily make 75% more
Too many pointless products that no one wants to buy. Puts a lot of strain on LGSs who don't want to lose their allocations but also don't want to buy stuff that they have to sell at a loss.
I’m all for everyone able to get cards, but I’m also don’t want them to overprint, otherwise LGS forced to eat those dead products where they are unable to move. Just need to find that balance.
And that balance is different for every set depending on popularity.
I miss Danny's old 2020 set up where he was in a dark room of shelves with string lights running up, down, and side to side on them.

Is it me, or is Pokémon just releasing too many sets per year? I kept up pretty well through Sword and Shield, and even up to about Paradox Rift or so, but it just feels like too much. It feels like with each set, by the time the market evens out a little after release, and I have an idea how much my chase cards are really going for, how much I’m actually willing to pay, and how much I want to actually open, another set is coming out, with a whole new set of potential chase cards.
If you’ve got endless expendable income, I’m sure it’s great, but that’s not a lot of people these days.
I think Pokémon would be wise to slow down releases. Not only would this help prevent overload and burnout for collectors, but players too, since they’d need to keep cards in the format a little longer.
You don't have to buy cards from every set. Just buy the ones you like the most. If you insist on getting a master set of every set released then yes it's going to cost you a fortune. Accept that that's the way it is now or change your collecting ways. Pokemon is not going to cut back on its releases. That would be less profits so it isn't going to happen.

You’re making a lot of assumptions about my collecting goals and how I approach them. I salute anyone who has the expendable income to even try for a master set, but that’s never been a goal - if I was going to, I’d be better off starting with vintage. No, I shoot for a handful of cards per set, but when a few of them are low pull rates and/or popular cards, they still add up fast, at least when you’ve got rent or a mortgage to consider.
As to whether or not they’d lose money reducing sets, I’m not convinced. For one, people aren’t necessarily going to have more to spend just because there are more sets - at a certain point, they’re cannibalizing existing profits. For another, market saturation is a thing. Marvel can attest to that; with so much to watch, few of their projects do as well as when they had fewer, and each project costs a lot to produce.
You can argue that Pokemon hasn’t hit the point of diminishing returns yet, but the idea that more sets will always mean more money doesn’t float. But hey, if you’re having fun, then good on ya.
I remember buying 2 Korean XY evolution booster boxes for $16.99 each from Amazon. I still have the pulls from those 2 boxes. Nobody could've seen the boom back then

I think 151 is getting less reprints because of people are likely to hoard for scalping for cards like Pidgeot EX.
With the frequency that they release products they really shouldn't do a ton of reprints, but they do need to cut down on the garbage products.
I think another thing that’s really tough for customers too is that retail price changes from $39.99 for an ETB to now $54.99. Booster packs being $5 minimum for me makes it that much harder to open SV. I know you can find cheaper options other than big box retailers, but I do wonder what happens to all those ETBs and collection boxes that carry over week to week. I kinda wish we just had simple products and occasional promos. For instance, the greninja and Kingdra promos that are coming out, are stunning. But they’re in their own collection box and theirs not like a different variant in the set itself so it makes the set way less desirable. Side note, mini portfolios are the dumbest things, it’s not a feasible binder, it’s one pack, they’re a joke.

Honestly the SV sets have just flooded with a ton of very mediocre sets. Pokemon should look at doing one less set release a year and a reprint of something the year prior. Would breathe new life maybe
Trash products are the problem. Print the main stuff and one special item per set. That's it. The market gets flooded with products where the packs are more expensive.

I look at reprints from the pokemon company’s point of view. If they are using the printing presses at 100% to print to demand for the the new releases why and how would they be able to print older sets for customers who had plenty of time and supply to buy what they wanted? So they would underprint the new releases to print old releases then fall into the trap of having to go back and reprint a set they originally underprinted due to a reprint of an old set. Basically from a business perspective it just makes more sense to print to demand at launch and move on to the next one.

I too would like to see an Evolving Skies reprint. It’d cool off the skyrocketing prices and make it a more affordable set for those who want to collect it for their kids. My kid loves and asks for Pokémon cards, so I can’t help but treat them for good test scores.

I just wanted to share an interesting situation. I had to sell my collection 4 months ago to repair my car. I was sad and disinterested in collecting. I got some gift cards and found some paldean fates tins. I bought 2 last week just out of curiosity; not looking for anything specifically. I pulled the alt art mew and charizard.
Doesn’t one on have their own website so why would they let everyone else make the money when they can just sell everything themselves 🤷♂️
At the end of the day, people want to open packs. I think Pokemon's distribution model is predatory and not necessarily from Pokemon, but I'm sure the distributors are the problem, but this is only speculation. With that being said, its fine to have products, but at the end of the day, people want the most packs for the best price. The eraser, jumbo card, tin, box, etc..... it's nice, but it is not worth the squeeze unless you are extracting the packs for 4 dollars minimum and ideally sub 4 dollars no matter what you are opening. Pokemon HAS GOT to stop trying to offer all this extra crap when at the end of the day it's called the Pokemon TRADING CARD GAME.... PEOPLE WANT TO BUY AND OPEN PACKS. I just don't get it .....
I’ll take reprints of Evolving Skies, Shining Fates, Lost Origin, and Astral Radiance to make up for the years I missed ripping those packs.

151 isn’t going to be reprinted. They only reprinted the Japanese because they do the reverse masterball holos the real chases for Japan. If you want the American chases of 151 cheap, buy the Japanese

There were too many true statements about money/collectibles being over produced, I can only assume the powers that be feared total economic collapse would be inevitable if I were to be allowed to connect Pokemon print runs to USD print runs.

Maybe this is asking a lot, but TPCI needs to de-clutter their products. Not every new item needs to come with a display, jumbo card, coin, or other non card items. I think they could also benefit from releasing a Play Pokemon kit once a year that gives a few special promos, artworks, or holofoils of playable trainers and like 2 or 3 packs. I would buy a good amount of that kind of stuff as someone who doesn't have the money to be buying booster boxes, but can afford a $20 tin or box maybe once a month.

The reason they reprint the most popular sets is because they know they will sell. Its all about selling as many packs as they can.
The only people that don't want reprints are "investors" and people that only care about money. For everyone else it just makes it easier to collect which is a good thing
And the Pokemon company does aswell. And they cant justify there 160 dollar price tag if they keep printing, unless there willing to keep selling them for way under msrp..

No that wouldn't work. What's gone is gone. That's what makes them expensive. The fact old packs are unavailable for the most part is what makes the price go up. If they just reprinted whatever they desired it would hurt the values of those sets considerably. That would hurt the demand as well as the more of something there is the less people want it.

About a month ago I bought out all the Pokémon cards at a local grocery store near me (about 65 silver tempest sleeves) and been waiting for them to get more until I started seeing videos pop up about distribution issues... here we are maybe 5-6 weeks later and the shortage is getting real lol. There's a pokemon vending machine at another market and they just shut off the machine at this point since they haven't refilled it. Kinda sucks tbh since my only options are ordering online and risk getting my box stolen or getting the scraps at Walmart or target... 😢😢 even my poke center got jacked from my porch... it's been a rough summer already.

Not to be negative but the likelihood of the price drop would be minimal... we might get a box down to 500. It would be nice but it would be devoured immediately with minimal effect on pricing. This was the case during the last reprint. It sucks donkey D but its unfortunately the reality of it.

It sounds like you're relying too much on your distributors and not creating value yourself. Just because Pokemon gives you lemons to sell doesn't mean you can't sell lemonade. You're very intelligent, Danny, think outside the box. Think about all the new collectors who want the opportunity to collect older sets but have no cost-effective way to do so.
Pokemon def needs to cool it on the different products. The collection boxes with meh promos as well as pencil cases and stuff like that. If they just made less of those things and more booster bundles then life would be great haha
I’m PRETTY SURE that’s inaccurate Phanny!!! Evo Skies was SOOOO hyped, released at the height of the Pokémon hype when you couldn’t even find product on shelves. The lowest I ever saw a booster box was MAYBE $120-$130 when the reprint happened…when people where saying “1st edition Alt Arts” because the new reprint wasn’t as “shiny” as the original print. It’s crazy how much you BIG poketubers forget about the facts.

pokemon needs to take advice from other games the core set/side sets and etbs should be the only thing there printing. the blisters,sleeves packs, tins,trunks mini tins and the jumbo boxes all these are is a cash grab by a company that doesn't need the money

Also if you gave you kid 40-80 allowance which is already to high and they spent it all on pokemon cards you would be incredibly disappointed . also it's a known fact even a kid T 10-12 will prefer a vape over pokemon

DO NOT REPRINT 151. These types of "special" sets need to remain in a shorter print supply for that specific reason. It's a LIMITED time SPECIAL SET.

I obviously do not know for sure. But ai think that Team Rocket set is going to be one half of our March 2025 set. So booster boxes, bundles, 3 pack blisters build n battles should all be available. Unless they copy righted the name super early and it'll be fall 2025 special set. Idk!
I just bought a Mew UPC for $90 (16 packs and 2 promo cards of Mew) online and a Zapdos ex box at Walmart yesterday (7/2/24).
Quit asking for a reprint, it's still available.

@@Scupplin in my area of Camada the only place to ever get 151 is Walmart and they're charging $49 for the Alakazam box, $55 for the Zapdos box, $65 for the Binder collection and the rare time they get the booster bundles they're $70! I'd love to see a reprint, a huge one!
