You can always put sensors at starting positions to align stairs for incoming person. It's kind of a reset mechanism. So multiple people use the stairs... and its looks like assist system is full mechanic supported by springs. only lock mechanism is electronical. It seems very lowcost. its a good invention for old people who lives by themself.
Works just like a push-push switch, when you walk down you store spring-energy. When you press down a second time, the latch releases and give you slight lift back up. But is it worth it? cost and mechanical issues etc
LOL @ the first person to walk down these stairs, not knowing they COLLAPSE when you step on them, falls and breaks several bones, sues the stair manufacturer, etc...... [might want several warning signs] and yea this is great in concept for a single person who uses them, but with multiple people, this will get out of sync quick. If 2 people walk down the stairs within 2 mins of each other, only the first gets the benefit.
I guarantee that the first old person to go down these will put their foot on the first step, have it collapse below them then immediately fall down the rest.
Hello, My brother is coming t this college, His name is Dane Rubenstein, graduating from Kealekehe Highschool, he will be majoring in Biomedical engineering, could you tell me if you have heard of him, Thanks!!

What happens when multiple people go up and down the stairs simultaneously?
A catastrophe.
I bet those would be separated or small enough for one person

Wouldn't you feel like missed a step while walking down?
My dog already has a hard enough time going up stairs. This will freak her out
But.. what if you walk upwards first? Or.. Walk down behind another person? This is perfect for trolling..
makes no sense when going down, and it's not helping when going up!?

I like to go down faster down the stairs, sometimes skipping steps. I feel like I will crash and burn with these stairs.
That makes sense. It looks a bit more compact than an escalator.
Cheaper solution: just don't go upstairs. Live on ground level
wait, what? stairs? muricans need 2 steps elevators

uh, this looks like it'd make them trip. don't make them re-learn how steps work.
I am one of those lazy old people and would like to be in the Beta test.
useless invention 2017
Someone will skip every other step 😂
Next time add a ramp
This isn't practical at all. I could say more but... I'm sure it's all somewhere in these comments.
