Hello everybody, I love The Weeknd's music but I have to keep it real. Do you think he will flop again (Dawn fm did eventually go platinum but it took longer than his prior albums *2 years* for his status that's a flop to me I'm sure his major label was not happy) and even harder than the last album? these last set of songs aren't cutting it. Have a great day! 👴
His last album didn't necessarily flop, it just didn't perform as well as others, it actually performed better than most albums released this yr. Also it was outshined by After Hours. Another thing is that he didn't market the album enough to create hype, literally in 2021 he just tweeted, "F*CK IT, IT STARTS TONIGHT", the next day he releases a snippet & then a single the same week. However this whole yr, he's created so much hype. The Weeknd's maintained the 100M+ monthly listeners for nearly two yrs in a row. Bruno Mars only surpassed him cuz of Die with a Smile & APT (a viral tiktok song)
His last album went platinum. Your narrative about it being a flop is simply inaccurate and you need to fact check before you spread false narratives sir. Otherwise you are going to get called out for it when someone who actually fact checks comes along. For future reference.
Nope. I'm opinion 🤔, I think he come back with a great album. But it really won't be better than the ones he already has. When gone for years, you wanna comeback with a banger. Something will get a gold status. I could be wrong. He is so underrated. Starboy, Blinding Lights, Earned It are my faves.
Obviously he isn't flopping, but his stats are jacked up because we all love his 2010's sound. Trilogy through to After Hours. After that it's been real bad.
Dawn FM only looks like flop because the singles underperformed and were blocked by Save Your Tears, and the album first week sales didn’t do as well as After Hours. It would’ve been way more huge if he had waited until Save Your Tears die down.
Dawn FM did 149k first week off streaming alone and AH did 169k. Not a huge dif but if you compare the fact that After Hours had 3 singles out alr and Dawn Fm didn't then you'll realize that it actually didn't flop.
He is not flopping IMO. His sound just ran it's course and appeal with the GP and it's ok. He still has his core fan base. DawnFM still sold over a million. I'm actually ok with him not abandoning his sound and not chase trends . He cannot be a Katy Perry, an artist who doesn't have a signature sound.
Katy Perry had her sound. I saw plenty of comments talking about how much Espresso screamed old Katy's music. Artist's without a sound are others, I won't make names in order to avoid a fight down here lol
He is not. He literally was just named the most listened male artist on vevo and the first artist to have 10 billion streams on 3 albums. And he has 24 songs on Spotify with 1 billion streams. Also Hurry up tomorrow has 500 million streams with only 3 songs released. I think he’ll be okay.

The issue with The Idol is everything that went behind the scenes and as you said the character and the music were very similar. And that was a show that kinda needed wholesome backstage stories to lure people in and obviously none of that happened and from what we think we know a lot of it came from The Weeknd. So it was a great mix of songs + character + rumours that took his image to the shambles it is today
This is intentional. The Weeknd's Starboy album is literally a message to his audience that "he has to sell his soul" to a corperate status quo (eventually) the higher his success comes. That's why he's making an exit as the weeknd. so he doesn't have to go into a 'sellout phase' longer than drake did. Salute to Abel, he stayed the most authentic until he wasn't allowed to.
The Weeknd is unique in my opinion. He doesn’t have to do anything in particular. He digs deep into his own world which I appreciate. He doesn’t bother trying to chase what’s hot or popular. He does his own thing.
Blinding Lights was and is great, but there's only so much of it we can take. It's all sounding similar now. But he is hugely talented! He can come back. I do however need to think he needs to protect his image a bit.
I love how people keep counting Abel out. When the smoke clears, he will have an everlasting legacy that will be more impactful than some of your favorite artist. He's pretty much a super star at this point and is out grossing Drake in streams and tour revenue.
So the 2nd most streamed artist in the world and the most streamed male artist in the world without dropping his new album is a flopped?? With a top 10 most streamed song that was a soundtrack song for his show. He was a lot more monthly listeners than even kendrick with all the hype of Not like us and dropping an album. Is because maybe he’s not the best at making headlines and his albums don’t sell like other pop artists at first but people are always listening after because the music is really good. Do you want him to make a song with a k pop artist like brumo mars to get the k pop fans on his side or what?? 🤦♂️
As a big fan of The Weeknd the “problem” with Dawn FM is that it was a surprise release with no big single that he promoted or went viral online. He basically put the album out and immediately went on tour. I’m interested to hear his new album and hope that it’s a departure from his previous sound. I was hoping he’d go more for an early 2000s vibe like Popular with his new music since it was such a hit.
This mf called dawn fm a surprise release, what is this revisionist history? We knew 5 months in advance it was coming out, thanks to take my breath and the actual promo of the album, it just didn't have any hits and it's fine to accept it as a flop when Gunna's project that week outsold it at a measly 150k units first week
I feel once he is done with The Weeknd character and fully transforms into just Abel his music will completely change. To me that’s where we’re going to see a huge change with his career and sonically
Bc he’s not drake dude he’s ganna be in his mid 30s now it’s been almost 10 years since beauty behind the madness the album that made him main stream he was 25 doing drugs and living the Hollywood life now he’s getting older that shit catches up to you can’t be drake singing “your a lesbian me too” type of shit
This video is basically a misinformation and hating. He's not flopped, in fact he's much better than his previous works. I don't understand this flopped narrative that you're on if he's still a 2nd most streamed artist on Spotify especially that his After Hours Til Dawn Tour is still ongoing
A platinum album is not a flop. The songs might not be hitting anymore but his albums will still do well. He’s like 12 years into his career, he’ll be okay.
In my opinion the sounds he is choosing are tired like the 80's dance, trap beats, and whatever that was with Anitta are just not that good. Literally everyone has moved on from the Dance music craze (well except Dua) and it just seems like he's stuck artistically. He needs a genuine break thats not just the standard 2 year artist break, to really find a new sound to experiment with and make his own.
What are you talking about dance music or 80's music is the one of the best music types and the weeknd and dua are rocking it and both are very successfull IF NOT the most successful of this generation
The genre of the single he released with Anitta is Brazilian Funk, if you are curious you should listen to it, it goes hard! And a lot of mainstream artists are diving in to it because it's extremely popular now there. I used to be an occasional listener of Abel but thank to The Idol I started to hate him, that series was a pile of 💩 and it definitely damaged his image. It made people take a deep look at his lyrics and how he has always been deeply misogynistic and I think that is why he's been falling out of charts, along with what you said about being repetitive and uninspired. Sorry if my grammar is not right, English is not my first language.
A few things are wrong with the Weeknd at the moment 1. The repetitive 80s sound- I get he’s trying to replicate the success of BL and it does make sense artistically. You create something, people like it, it makes you feel comfortable as an artist in that lane and you want to be continue growing in that direction. But BL happened during Covid and that was a really different time for everyone. It’s success was largely influenced by things that were happening at that time. Should that be his signature sound? Its 80s sound for a reason; it’s not necessarily pushing the envelope in anyway or creating something fresh that Bon Jovi or Meatloaf didn’t do in 1987. And it’s not on brand for him because people expect highly innovative sounds and ideas from him. It was innovative in 2020 but it’s not fresh anymore. 2. The whole popstar thing- Starting with the Idol, releasing many singles and not taking long enough breaks in between eras. He has gotten very hungry and competitive in recent years, and he wants to stay on top. That’s taking a huge toll on his image and creative output. The Weeknd is supposed to be those artists like Bob Marley who’s priority isn’t saturating mainstream music to achieve huge stardom but releasing music that’s true to himself and his artistic vision. I feel like he has lost his vision with fame and that has made him compromise the quality of his music. First thing about true artistry, if it isn’t good it should be scrapped. But it seems he will release anything because he knows his 100 million listeners will stream it nonetheless. 3. Mike Dean and his yes people camp- Don’t know a lot about Mike Dean but nothing he has done with him has been gold. He doesn’t elavate his ideas or challenge him to do anything bold. Not every song needs synths or that 80s trap beat. He’s a bad friend Abel, and you’re not in a band you’re free to work with the next best producer in the industry.
Click bait title? I dont see how you could say its going downhill fast when the quality of music is great. Out of time, Take my breath, How do i make you love me, Gasoline... at least 3/4 of those are classic tracks. The album is focused, there's progression from his last work, there's the radio station aspect to it which make it stand out more in his discography. That's not music indicating a career going downhill lmao. Didnt he just become the first artist to have 3 albums reach 1 billion streams like within a month ago too...
I don't follow anything to do with the weekend, but my friend is a huge fan, and even he didn't even know of the weekend released anything 😭 Please do a video on Bruno, too, please ❤
Right after dawn FM he should’ve have take a musical break and focus on touring. Even now he needs a creative break. He needs to read the Bruno Mars book.
After watching your content I realized maybe this is why he doing a ‘one-night only’ concert for Hurry Up Tomorrow because if he were to do a world tour it wouldn’t perform like previous albums. Also, for him to try to keep hold on to the mysterious-type energy.
I prefer pop The Weeknd. It all changed with star boy. I know his old fans want house of balloons but that’s not mainstream. He wants to me a pop star. Just look at his demeanor after performing the superbowl. Which wasn’t even that good of a performance but to him that’s the pinnacle. Now Abel will always want to capture that magic.
Good afternoon: Personally, Weeknd career isn't going downhill. But it does seem that way. Weeknd is so private, ppl don't know that much about him. Almost like Beyonce. But don't I blame him, I'm kinda the same way. What you see is what you get. When we do get to know something, it's not really deep nor interesting. Weeknd reminds me of Frank Ocean. Goes away for a some years, then disappears & comes back. Nobody knows the real Weeknd. Great video & have a great day 🙂🙂....!! PS. Could you do a video on Jay-Z. Your opinion & thoughts.
I don’t care what anyone says I enjoyed the hell out of Dawn FM Him as an actor.. I think he thinks he could act the way he does in his videos but it’s different. If he really wants to transition to an action he needs to hire a coach to knows the ins and outs of the kind of acting he would need for a show or movie. But other than that I still enjoy him and I think fans calling his by his government when he’s been Weeked.. will be a reach… but we will see. I always look forward to his music.. I’ll definitely give it a listen.
He’s still the 2nd most streamed artist in the world and he had 2 songs in the year end top 10 last year. He is doing fine and will survive not having a huge hit from the new album 😂
This trilogy isn't like the first one. That was in a matter of months while this one spanded years. People were gonna get tired of the synth pop, maybe if the albums had different sounds like these last three tracks that he's dropped, idk. He said this is a long goodbye, but he's not really doing anything but performing. I actually think we've heard the whole album at this point. I love Abel so much and if he drops The Weeknd, I hope whatever he pursues next is phenomenal
7:57 Dawn FM wasn't "Too Artsy" it was his just a more forgetable and boring version of his previus album, damn I hate this new trilogy, the 80's inspires movement is sooo dead and The Weeknd dragged a trilogy of a dead trend for way too long. (I'm a fan of him, but I haven't been feeling his current diretions this decade)
Spotify just created a billions club to showcase his talent and success, the most globally streamed artist alive above Drake, taylor swift & Beyonce, is the worlds most popular artist, Superbowl headliner, longest charting 📈 song in billboard history but according to you his career is flopping? Let me guess you're a Drake fanboy?
bro it takes guts to make a vid like this knowing you gonna get attacked by all the weeknd glazers... reading the comments i feel bad for u bro just ignore them, obviously youre right and have the stats to prove it.. im a weeknd fan for 10+ years now and his old stuff is miles ahead of this new stuff... his new stuff sounds super flamboyant and forced i wish he went back to his old art rock style and sad piano style hes been doing the 80s sound for like 3 albums in a row now shits boring and flamboyant
The Idol is what turned most of us off from him. If he hadn't involved himself, his music would still maintain the mystique but he showed us that he's just another asshole (fr the Idol BTS was crazy). his music will always be awesome but that peek behind the curtain lost him many people.
I don’t see how when HOB or the whole trilogy I can see tedros… yall must haven’t heard “initiation” bc that’s what the idol portrayed to me it was a hint of the stuff he did when he was coming up just my opinion but I can see why the show threw ppl off bc singing about raw stuff and acting raw is very hard depending on the audience. It’s like when you see Robert Pattinson from twilight then you watch the movie good time it’s a big difference
@@CoryR1 It's not about the character Tedros. It's about the behind the stage issues and the way the story was executed and presented to the audience (eg the "plot twist" at the end that's supposed to be a smart twist, but comes across nonsensical)
Something not being your preference and a flop are two completely different things. Dont get me wrong i miss and prefer the weeknds older music and im personally tired of the style hes been doing lately but to call it a flop and say hes falling off is an absolute stretch. Each album has its own set of fans. Theres some people that love kissland and trilogy that dont care for the newer stuff as much and then theres some that love and prefer this new style more than the old. Just because the numbers arent as good right out the gate doesn't necessarily mean its bad. Trilogy and kissland are still lacking in numbers to this day, but best believe its still by far his best work.
Nahhh its all those weird creepy videos & that satanic symbolism in his videos these past few years. His videos & the aesthetics in his tours didnt help either everyone that I know that went to those concerts said the vibes were very occult & heavy 💀💅 No thanks I passed.

“One of the girls” is the only in the recent years I’m still listening to
I don't follow anything to do with the weekend, but my friend is a huge fan, and even he didn't even know of the weekend released anything 😭
Please do a video on Bruno, too, please ❤
I Dont he is a big fan at all🤣🤣
The weeknd career is up 📈 not downfalls LoL
I don't think he's flopping, i think he's still relavent enough to be able to to reciver quickly if he does have a failed single or album
what? He's never flopped. This is dumb clickbait. Twitter fans are not real life and neither are RUclipsrs.
how much did Drake goons pay you for this lol
Right after dawn FM he should’ve have take a musical break and focus on touring.
Even now he needs a creative break.
He needs to read the Bruno Mars book.
Least obvious Aubrey glazer
so I can't use memes now, oh brother
@@DonAnjeloshut up we know you're biased
@HakeemNana-mc9cz fam, you good?
Tripping for 19 minutes straight. Get some marketing classes
Lmao I think your on your own with this bro
Love my pop culture boy !!!!
Timeless is straight heat, people paying this song DUST!
I don’t care what anyone says I enjoyed the hell out of Dawn FM
Him as an actor..
He is doing fine and will survive not having a huge hit from the new album
😂
Hes not lost, hes just playing a storyline and will end the weeknd monicre with hurry up tomorrow
Filled with L takes. And im not a stan as you would say.
L take on that bruno mars song that was pushed by label execs
I agree with u the weekend does overuse a lot certain sounds his songs are starting to sound the same
This trilogy isn't like the first one.
I dont think he s going down he just needs a good update on his sonics, plus he s still very big outside of US
After Hours is his BEST album!!
His Illuminati subscription has expired
ppl r over it
I'm just dyin for The Weeknd to Finally get a J Cole Feature on his Next Album 😫
Good afternoon: What about a Kendrick Lamar collaboration...??
@@dashiajames1882 We already got Sidewalks 🔥🔥🔥
@@dashiajames1882”Pray for me” & “Sidewalks” exist
My top 2 favorite English language artists are:
#1) Taylor Swift
#2) The weeknd
Both are timeless
Spotify just created a billions club to showcase his talent and success, the most globally streamed artist alive above Drake, taylor swift & Beyonce, is the worlds most popular artist, Superbowl headliner, longest charting 📈 song in billboard history but according to you his career is flopping? Let me guess you're a Drake fanboy?
I feel dawn fm was released in a bad time when it was released I downloaded it but didn’t listen to it until months later
Same
''a quarter bill on an off year'' - The Weeknd
3:02 THE WAY YOU SAID THIS LMFAOOOOO 😭 AYE-KON
bro it takes guts to make a vid like this knowing you gonna get attacked by all the weeknd glazers... reading the comments i feel bad for u bro just ignore them, obviously youre right and have the stats to prove it.. im a weeknd fan for 10+ years now and his old stuff is miles ahead of this new stuff... his new stuff sounds super flamboyant and forced i wish he went back to his old art rock style and sad piano style hes been doing the 80s sound for like 3 albums in a row now shits boring and flamboyant
Michel Jackson a STYLISH SINGER?! Lmao what!!!
wtf dawn fm artistically was superior to after Hours/starboy/BBTM, Number are not everything💀💀💀
The Weeknd is NOT one of the best male vocalists 😂😂😂😂
but Drake is right 😂
@ why are you asking me about Drake 🤔
He absolutely is. Who else (alive of course) has better vocals & also a unique voice?
I definitely don’t think this
Honestly he should go back to trap/ hiphop
You are right
Dancing in the flames
Timeless
São Paulo
All good songs but doesn’t really hit like a weeknd album song.
Idk I think maybe you’re projecting your own feelings about him onto the general public.
Just say this a hate page of The Weeknd did Drake pay for you to make this video
The king of high notes 🎶 💙🤷🏽♂️🔥
He could drop a rock album & it’ll sold 100k+
I mean beyoncé is mysterious too and ppl don't care that much (except some crazies who want her to be more open)
Monthly listeners means nothing if daily streams don’t match
Nahhh its all those weird creepy videos & that satanic symbolism in his videos these past few years. His videos & the aesthetics in his tours didnt help either everyone that I know that went to those concerts said the vibes were very occult & heavy 💀💅 No thanks I passed.
lol bro just yapping
I went to see him in concert and it was a stadium with eight thousand people and sold out .
yh i like the weeknd but his next album doesnt even have me excited he's be 1/3 on his singles for his next album
I don’t think he’s flopping but it is time for a different sound or a throwback to his old sound but mature
This kid bro.
Lol you’re video just became redundant after your own statement “artists are taken too seriously and I don’t know why..”
Bro wants to digest internet slop in music form
I'm clearly that not a weeknd fan 😅 cause I didn't know he had music out
