    I got crippled in 2007 while on duty and was suppose to never be able to drive again. These automatic trucks makes it seem possible that one day I may return to work since there is no shifting so I wont have to worry about my left leg and that damn clutch. Thanks for posting this dude. I hear now over half of the trucks out on the road are automatic. If I do go back I know I will miss the stick but reality is what it is for me.

    You never know how relaxing it is to drive in LA traffic until you driven it with one of these newer Gen ultrashifts I prefer the 13spd but 4 hours in traffic and my knee never got numb or fatigued getting old suck but you learn to enjoy components that make your day go easier.

    I got an older Eaton Ultrashift (10 spd) paired with a C15. I changed the clutch @ 680K , and changed the tranny @890k. I never had problems catching a gear at any speed, and it shifts smoothly. My complain is when backing up. I have to rev it up so it'll move, and that can be a problem if you're in a tight spot. The other problem, it's slow when I'm taking off even when empty, also , after unloading a heavy load, it takes you 2 or 3 take offs before the foot gets to adjust for the trottel because it's empty and lite. The newer models got a creep mode that takes care of the backing up, and keeping a steady slow speed in traffic conditions. Overall, I would say, I wish I had something like it long ago, maybe it would've helped my shoulder & knee feel better today, and more saving in the account,because it saves diesel for sure. Lastly, I don't think anyone can argue about freeing your right hand. You have the freedom from the stick to do things that you can't otherwise, things like fix your logs, make a call, grab a bite, pick your nose etc... LOL. Stay safe, and be aware of the dang 4 wheelers, and you need a stick to assure your manhood, so be it.

    These are still manual transmissions hooked to a computer and an air clutch . These are not automatics , though they drive like one. I would never go back to manuals. I can shift on the fly while you old school are still stuck waiting for rpm and tranny speed to match.

    I will take a fuller manual 18 spd transmission over these any day.....Old school guy here....To much electrical BS computer sensor stuff to go wrong.....This is why new trucks today are so expensive and are being towed to the dealerships because of a def problem computer problem sensor problem and your sitting along the road a jobsite or wherever....If I ever bought a automatic transmission on a heavy truck it would be an Allison.....Whatever these Fuller Autoshifts are SemiAutomatic Manual or whatever you can have them......Not bashing your video it was very informative.....Did not know alot about them but I have seen enough...Do like the Petes 567s and 367s.....388s...

      This simply isn't true anymore. AMTs are as reliable as their manual counterparts and emissions trucks are getting more reliable every year. They're not as reliable add the old 60 Series yet but if I had the money, I'd choose a 2012-2019 DD15 or X15 over one easily.
      Higher horsepower, higher mpg, and fewer emission are worth the higher price. If are going to use something that's going to pollute, we should be paying higher prices to keep the air clean. That's just the cost of responsible business.

    I've put almost 500,000 miles on a 10 speed smart shift Eaton. I still miss banging gears myself but I've never had any issues with the auto bullshit. But I still hate it.

    What engine does this truck run on? Detroit? Cummins?

  • @MegaGeorge1948
    @MegaGeorge1948 5 лет назад +4

    Allison is the way to go for automatics in big trucks. Especially off road and backup crawling. because the Allison has the torque converter instead of a computer controlled dry clutch to transfer starting torque in either forward or reverse gear. The Allison does cost more to spec. But it is a better transmission due to the smoothness of operation, like a car's transmission and it's legendary reliability.

NO WAY, JOSE!Even with transit buses, knowing the old ones 65 years ago had automatic, not even more than one-speed, wityh the F N R(Allison..) even TRUCKS didn't have that back then,either..(lol can you just imagine, even in the OLD days, gas and engine days, 1947-1958,so, trucks rigs with this.

      We have a review video we need to post on the I-shift too. I would say the I-shift seems harder to damage by untrained operators, but its not on the level of the 18-speed ultra.

      It couldn't be any worse . An I shift clutch is in excess of 3500$ and a remanufactured center section is over 25,000$. How does the Ultra compare price wise ? I know the I shift sucks in rolloffs and tractors pulling transfer trailers

    The enduranceTrans 12 speed is a junk actually Not the mechanical it’s all the software , up shifting Uphill 6 & 7 gears blinks 4-6 then engaged & downshifting uphill from 12 in to 11,10 & 9 gears takes 4-6 blinks before engages again , with 80,000 pounds 4-8 grades hill you’re losing to speed and momentum , the engine break thanks 3 blinks about 2 seconds downshifting in lower gear every time on downhill 4-6 Grade in till it’s thinking to downshift it’s too late needs to go back in a higher gear , this software is a junk I don’t recommend to any to buy this junk Transmission, does a problem they’re testing a brand new and bobtail try after 100,000 miles And full loaded truck , and every time they doing a software update they charging you $$$$ but there is no difference even worse it gets , that’s my advice stay away away but you’re choosing not me I already did and I regret I should get Allison CT10, Paccar never less on the customer
