    I think Olympus nailed it correctly with a the Mark ii versions of the EM10, EM5 and EM1. They were also all metal bodied. Since then, they went a bit awry, except with the EM1 Mk iii.

      Yep, making #1 feel more 'premium' by forcing #2 and #3 to look more 'unpremium'. Not good

    I am one of those who suffered from a bottom plate crack from using a Peak Design clip in the tripod mount. I specifically bought this camera for outdoor use during hiking due to the marketing as an ‘adventure’ camera. I should have watched this video before buying! I have since replaced it with an E-M1 MarkIII.

      E-M5 iii feels much better in my hands. The composite body is nice.
      Plus I mostly shoot small primes. 14mm. 15mm 17mm 20mm 45mm 💁🏻‍♀️
      For tripod use just get the after market Haoge Grip with the built in Arca Swiss mount.

    9:30 The smaller battery seems to align the EM1 Mk iii more with EM10 users rather than as an EM5 Mk ii upgrade. The battery is the same as in the EM10 Mk ii for instance. It makes the EM5 Mk iii more of an upgrade for an EM10. There is a lowering of the status of this EM5 Mk iii compared to the Mk ii. Then all these features have been carried over to the OM5.

      Smaller battery but same number of photos per full charge, leading to lighter weight camera. This camera is geared towards portability and pocketability, makes sense to me.

    Great review! Many different observations that other reviewers miss. Especially with the anodised finish bit. As a metallurgist and materials scientist I appreciate that. I really can't imagine why anyone would want a silver metallic finish on a plastic camera or lens!

  • @Koji-888
    @Koji-888 7 месяцев назад +2

    I like E-M5 iii , better for everything. Lighter weight and composite feels better in my hands.
    The buttons are much firmer and out of the way, so not to get accidentally changed.
    But it’s the inside that matters most, and the Mark III is much more advanced.
    Phase detection focus. EM1-X sensor. 20 MP. “High Resolution Mode”. 240 SLO-MO. 💁🏻‍♀️💕

    Regarding the base and tripod screw mount, already some mark III users have cracked bases around the mount. Appears there is no metal frame attached to mount, support and camera. Very risky especially for tripod users and those that attach a strap to the tripod mount! Thanks.

    • @RichartAsia
      @RichartAsia  4 года назад +2

      That's my cause of concern too when using the pro lenses for nature photography. Also heat from shooting in 4K should be better dissipated with magnesium alloy body than composite plastic. Thanks for watching!

      Richart Asia for 45 dollars you can have a grip extension and a mount for permanent quick attaching to a tripod, and it gives you battery access.

      I have a G9 for just over a year and got this one several weeks ago. Making it from a tough plastic was a great idea and I don’t really see using my G9 anymore except for serious work. The EM5 is very intuitive for me and quite enjoyable to carry all day, even if I’m not using a prime and my 12-40 pro. Video I don’t do but if I did then it would be the G9 probably.

    • @steventhomas231
      @steventhomas231 3 года назад +2

      And people still believe the move to all plastic build was to save weight and not to save on cost which it obviously was.

  • @davebellamy4867
    @davebellamy4867 2 года назад +3

    12:09 I'm not sure about the two value dials. The dials on the EM5 Mk iii are a little stiffer than on the EM10 Mk ii and I like that. I found that I could knick the front control on my EM10 Mk ii too easily and have accidental exposure compensation. The mode dial makes this EM5iii more like the EM10 and EM1 series.

  • @steventhomas231

    The move away from the metal top and bottom plate was a huge mistake. Thats one of the things that set Olympus apart was top build quality. The em10 mark 4 and em 5 mark 3 look cheap in comparison to the mark 2s.

    • @davebellamy4867
      @davebellamy4867 2 года назад +3

      The EM10 Mark ii is gorgeous. In the aesthetics and feel - and the finish is excellent on the chrome and black models. Feels better than the EM5 iii but I bought an EM5iii as an upgrade for the extra features once it was deeply discounted on the launch of the OM5. (The OM5 is also plastic!) I wanted to buy new for the warranty - but I would probably have been better off with the EM1 Mk ii secondhand. Difficult decision. I kind of like the look of the smaller camera bodies and the EM5iii takes my EM10ii batteries so I'm happy with it.

    Granted the tripod mount seems to be a weak point but what’s wrong with a polycarbonate outer body? Think about the Dyson vacuum, it’s made of polycarbonate, a strong, durable, lightweight material that takes one hell of a beating. Sure, it feels nice to hold an all metal camera but I totally understand why they chose polycarbonate.

    • @marike1100
      @marike1100 Год назад

      I try not to buy any camera that uses plastic. Plastic is just a way to pay forward to the petro chemical industry and compared to my OM-1, OM-2N film and E-M5 II digital (which I chose over the III for the metal body) plastic doesn’t look or feel as premium.

      If I’m a journalist at a war maybe I would seek metal because dents don’t break camera.

      Thanks for watching! I'm in no way saying don't buy em5 iii just stating these are the things that bugs me coming from em5 ii. Yes the eye piece rubber is flimsy loose no idea if it's only my unit or standard for all. Build & fit finish em5 ii is way ahead. I've no doubt the image & video of em5 iii should be better than em5 ii though. If you need 4k video & pro capture then go for em5 iii else em5 ii should be a great buy now.
