As an artist, I appreciate your comment about not buying art because it matches your couch/drapes etc. Go with your heart and it will "fit" and bring you joy!
I have the hardest time with this. I never can commit to large art pieces because honestly I don’t really know what I love,, same reason I never got a tattoo. Lol So I end up just picking abstracts that the colors match my decor. I’m working on my issues though. 😝
So true! I have 3 art pieces that I painted myself and I have a feeling I’ll hold on to them for a while even as my style changes cause I made them and they speak to me much more than art I can buy somewhere.
My son created a piece of art at school when he was 9 and I loved it - I stuck it on the fridge for years before finally getting it professionally framed.
An art piece needs to speak to me or make my heart flutter. My collection is from flea mkts, thrift shops, eBay or antique shops, and I’ve never paid more than $200 for any one piece. I can remember where I was the first time I saw every painting that is in my home today and how that piece moved me when I first saw it. I marvel at artists’ talent and how their talent stirs my thoughts or emotions.
I think the people who comment and try to argue your points aren't getting or understanding what you are trying to say. I think your channel is excellent and I've learned a LOT about styling my home from your videos! Keep up the great work!
I like to create my own home decor. That way, if I don't like what's hanging on the wall or sitting the mantel, I sell it in my Etsy shop and move on. :-)
My best advice is to decorate around pieces you love. My living room is very colorful, because my inspiration for the room was a large, almost kaleidoscopic art piece. I receive compliments whenever anyone sees it, but more importantly, it reflects my personality, not popular trends.
Thanks for the video! My Dad used to tell me to "buy the best quality you can afford" and "if you see something you love, buy it, because if you like it, someone else is going to like it too and it may not be there when you go back for it" I was not raised in a wealthy home, but I still have pieces from my parents when they first got married back in 1958! They were quality, real wood and were made to be repaired or reupholstered and were not "disposable".
You have a gift of delivering such quality, information packed videos. You’re a wonderful teacher and I love the variety you come up with. Great work and perfect presentation 👍👍👍👍👍🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
I love your channel because you are developing your style and teaching classic ideas and especially because you stay away from all the trendy stuff EVERYONE else does!! Subscribe to all different magazines, do Pinterest, do Houzz, expand your decorating horizon and break rules!! Love you B!! 🥰🥰🥰
I am a new homeowner and I am decorating 1 room at a time because I want to visit some estate sales, thrift shops, goodwill and see what is available. your ideas are great and I am considering signing up for your design sessions.
I love that you are taking a thoughtful approach to your home. Everything and everyone is into quick, fast, instant. Using products that are in every catalog and everyone else’s homes. This is such a great message, thank you!
I must admit that I recently made a couple purchases on line that I have regret. Nothing like taking your time and considering a consignment or estate piece with quality WAY better. Thank you for keeping it real with us.
Finally got a coffee table because of you, Baiyina!!! I mean I lose points because it's Walmart 😅 but that's where I'm at right now. It's the little things lol
Thank you so much for your wise advice, Baiyiana. I could tell that you were annoyed with people who are arguing with you. Most of us really appreciate very much the free advice you are giving from your training and experience. Ignore those who don’t get what you are saying. Thank you very much for your videos!

Very good tips. You can mix some cheap items in with nice ones. I have very expensive chairs, a couch and ottoman. However a small stacking table set in my room was from a bargain furniture store and the look is terrific. I’m also a huge fan of vintage items and original art work.
Girrrrrrlll! I Love it! Sometimes you gotta be honest and to the point. Sometimes you gotta put people on Blast. I was laughing and in agreement at the same time. Really enjoy your channel.
I have a good friend that's an interior designer, & she told me one day that I have one of the most amazing decorating styles she'd ever seen. I had no idea it could be so appealing to others lol, I did it for me & to make me happy. I did what you're talking about, I didn't get everything at one place, or even at one time. & It worked, & still works beautifully! I don't over think it, I go with my gut instinct. Thank you for sharing!👍🏻😁
One way to add a little Texas touch is have something cowhide like a rug or small chair covered with it. I know it’s not for everyone. I love all your advice and I shop garage sales and estate sales whenever I can. The best deals ever are at garage sales.
Love this video Baiyina. Your choice of color is fast to me I usually take WAY longer. Unlike other so-called designers and RUclipsrs, YOU are very open, honest and transparent!
I'm a relatively new suscriber to this channel. This video made me want to subscribe again. I love your authenticity...and as I listened to your suggestions I found myself nodding in agreement and chuckling at your subtle, yet firm ability to handle trolls. Confidence....that's what it is. Confidence is the design element that people lack and pay designers for. You're confident. I see that in you. I love that about you. Thank you for sharing your passion. I'm truly enjoying your videos.
This video really resonated with me. I think some people think I’m waaay into my home. I just love trying to do things on my own and carrying out a vision I have stored in my head. 🤷♀️
Definitely one of my favorite RUclips videos ever!!! I felt I was getting a Dr. Phil version of interior design advice!! It's funny, when you mentioned possibly incorporating a Texas vibe to your home (Paris-Texas), I had been wondering when you moved to Texas if you'd begin to get influenced by Tex-Mex or Southwestern design ... just a thought ... Thanks for a great video!!!💞😊🐶
You go, B! You are offering tutorials about the skills it takes to build personal, affirming home environments. Who said, “Architecture is everything”? That’s true, our environment keeps us safe and warm or cool and dry. Comfort is not fluff. Comfort allows us time and space to think, plan, solve problems, love, entertain ourselves and others. Getting it together isn’t easy. Sometimes you’re gonna sweat, or prick your finger.
I went from a 1600 sq ft townhome that was originally my husband's (his style before me could be characterized as "single dad") to a home that's 2x that size 5 months ago. I started my decorating process with Pinterest boards and determined my style was dark boho glam (yeah I made it up, lol). My husband leans towards Hollywood Regency (his kids are now grown) so at least we had the glam part in common. Now 5 months later I can truly say I'm very happy with the look I achieved because I stayed true to my decorating style. All of our major pieces are high-end pieces bought pre-owned off FB Marketplace for a tiny fraction of what they cost new! Our 119" dining table, 109" console, display cabinet, and leather modular sofa & ottoman were all purchased off FB Marketplace. It worked well with my eclectic style and I achieved a lived-in, unique look. Mix in dark, dramatic paint colors and drapes-- it's dark boho glam all the way! Having the consistency of B&W wool rugs throughout the rooms and black & gold accessories, all of which were purchased new, are what unifies the mix of pieces into a unified story. 🖤🤩
Thanks for the video. There were some helpful ideas. I'm in the process of redecorating my living and family rooms and realized that the ideas I had loved first were not my style. Drove my husband crazy but I'm happier now.
You are so right about new furniture taking forever these days. Apparently there is a foam shortage. I am one of those people that can’t buy a 2nd hand couch, so I ordered one on Monday that will take 6 months! I did go on line and found the manufacturer & ordered a fabric sample so I can select rugs & window treatments in the meantime, so I feel like I did “do the work” a little bit. Now I just hope it comes faster than the couch!
A classy way to add in some Texas could be with leather, bone, cowhide, or unexpected antlers. SO many fun ways you can bring that in without a boot or a hat lol
Some of the mistakes you mentioned I definitely made! Decorating about your lifestyle I find a very helpful thought right now!! Thank you for pointing that out. In fact it encourages me to get rid of stuff which clutters up my living room.
Years ago I bought a dresser second hand and refinished it. It was a 60s piece that had a ghastly 'speckled' finish, but it was solidly built and once I stripped off the finish, I was amazed at the beauty of the wood. I gave it a tung oil finish, and it's been the statement piece in my bedroom ever since. I think I paid maybe 80 bucks for it in 1999. Definitely shopping vintage and reimagining a piece of furniture is the way to go, because then you really do end up with something one of a kind.
There should be a rule about being snarky toward someone who is helping you. I love all of your tips. I'm a home economist by education but had that move 18 times corporate career. I'm finally retired - almost - in my dream home and able to unpack my collections. Almost everything I own is inherited, antiqued or from garage sales and off the curb. Thank goodness I had two of those aunts (!) who gave me a sense of quality and style. My last find was a full length antique wicker chaise lounge that I got online for $8. I ALWAYS wanted one and now I need it for health reasons. It was in Virginia and then shipped to New Orleans. I checked new and used and the freight was HALF the cost of similar pieces. It will go perfectly on my sleeping porch/ library. Keep Going Girl! You're on the Right Track.
Love your take on everything! I'm in an apartment and my dinette area is my office as well. Continue sharing with us, and don't allow negativity to pluck your nerves. I can appreciate giving reasons to substantiate your selections, however. It brings about clarity, for certain.
My husband (God rest his soul) used to always say..."the best ideas are other people's ideas"...I've learned to live by that, so I always pay attention to what other people have to say and I'm always finding gems. I've gathered a lot of gems from you.
Only “3 weeks to a month?” Ummm...that’s quick in my world! 😂 the best thing I did 2 years ago was get rid of my dining room set. It’s now a seating area ( I have an open floor plan.) and I get tons more use out of the space. The table only collected mail anyway. Thanks for posting great content!
Great advice! ESP taking time to sit with something and see how you like it. Another I’d stress is IT TAKES TIME, “Rome wasn’t built in a day”. Rushing to get a room done can lead to a ton of wasted $$$ down the line. Slowly curating your pieces and living with them propels you to see what works/what you actually need/ and what truly makes you happy. I’ve wasted time & money with “filler pieces” or “it’s fine for now” in the past; instead of just waiting & researching for the the right item. Thank you for your content & hard work!!
Solid advice once again, Baiyina. I have made some of these painfully expensive mistakes, and I appreciate how you summarized everything here. I cannot wait for your videos to be uploaded every Sunday and Wednesday.
Great video and advice, Baiyina! I was angry at some of the ridiculous comments on one of your previous videos - seemed to be a very negative reaction - hope it doesn’t get to you and please know that most of your followers admire the work you do and appreciate your views on all things design. ❤️
Yassss Baiyina!!! You tell them. People are feeling entitled, thinking that it’s your job to post all of your connects bc you are a creator. You share so much and I appreciate it. I know art is subjective but I am at the point of adding the finishing touches to my design. I purchase pieces from Etsy and thrift stores but art has been difficult. Would you consider a video on how you decide on your pieces? I have a very neutral home but would love infusing color through art.
😁 Our styles are very different but I can always take something away from each of your videos, because of the fundamentals of what you're sharing and tailoring it to myself. You're not asking us to be copies of you, you're helping your viewers to see what important to us and how not to waste money. I appreciate you 💖
Agree with you on not buying things for your home to please others. Same goes with wall colors. I am now having to repaint my bathrooms a third time, because I went the neutral route at others' recommendations, when I really should have stuck with cool blues and blue greens. Now, I have to spend additional money repainting them so that I enjoy walking into and using them daily.
So right about not going to fast! Another RUclips was decorating her home (specifically her bedroom suite) and wanted to keep to a budget. She went online and a women sold her the exact sofa, in the exact color she wanted, which was basically unused - at a fabulous price (the woman had purchased and realized it wasn’t a good fit for her). She thrifts, does DIY, etc and her suite looks beautiful!
I love your thoughts. Thank you! I get so caught up in is it right or wrong design instead of is it me. Therefore I don’t get anywhere! Always stuck! I think you just freed me!
Absolutely right. The more you know about interior design the more flexible you become. Being a designer myself next time I want to do a major renovation I would definitely want to use someone with a different eye and taste. I am open to ideas. But at the end I still have in mind what will work for me. I need to get away from myself and my design ideas. 😅😅😅
@@ff2154 ok, I’m a new subscriber and new to the decor side of RUclips as I’m redoing my home. I do notice disclaimers at the start of their videos.😅 Anyone would get tired of the disrespect but I can tell she is sincere, tries to reach out to people and is more personable in her business. I’m considering doing the consultation for $150 after doing the style quiz on her website. But every room has to be redone, I don’t even know what questions to ask. 😩
I loved everything you said in this video. I’ve decided to slow down on decorating my bedroom to the T because I do plan on buying a house in the coming year. And I don’t want to over decorate it whereas I won’t use use half the items. However if I see something I love, I’m getting it! LOL!
I want my house to look like a middle class home from 1965. Meaning small hints of designs to come and a smal MCM but also a middle class family would have floors from the turn of century and maybe wallpaper from the 40s and inherited furniture from family. From all different times.
You sound like a true artist! A visionary. Your home is no doubt a true reflection of your unique perspective. I can SEE it, yet I don't know you nor have I ever seen your home. It's meticulously wonderful...just like you! One might say, "well appointed." Be encouraged...
Yyyyaaaaayyyyyy. Finally!! Someone who designs said not to buy art because it matches your room!! I have always loved art and a friend of mine, an art historian, told me decades ago never to buy art because the color match your room. It is like giving up your white dog or cat because your purchased a navy sofa. It makes no sense.
Another great video. Right now am looking for the perfect art piece for my home office. I’ve looked and looked. I will be facing it when sitting at my desk so I know I need to love it. Want something unexpected...but prefer to stay in my color palette of green and dark blue. I really don’t want anything mass produced either. Taking my time.
You might try painting it yourself for at least a temporary solution. You could use watercolor, acrylics, mix media, oil, or whatever you like. You can even buy a handsome frame at a thrift store or estate sale. Fill it with whatever catches your imagination. That will be your placeholder until you find the perfect piece.
I'm restyling my bedroom and originally going to buy 3 matching IKEA frames for some etsy prints. Decided to mix it up with various sizes of thrifted frames.
My home is mostly vintage, thrift, estate sales. Wool rugs for 10.00. Fabrck backed curtain wre 2.50 each. Solid maple wood benches from the five star hotel in town 6 at 45.00. Cushions for the benches were made from memmory fosm and covered with material from a custom upholstered couch I found. The consistency comes from knowing I lean toward classic formal and the colors come from an antique pheasant tea pot that was a gift. The hunt for the right thing at the right price is a game for me. When I tire of something I just donate it again.
I love your style and I absolutely love vintage and antiques but sometimes I feel like it can look cluttered. I personally don't care for a lot of furniture in my space so I am not sure how to get the "look". I took your style quiz a few months ago and I think my style is TRANSITIONAL.
I have the same issue, and what I’ve realized is that I need to invest more in large statement pieces, even if that means skipping some things I love or waiting longer to save for a purchase.
I agree with so much of what you said, and I appreciate your ideas. It’s about the individual and what works for them. I have an eclectic tropical decor style (lol) I love my large square (possibly outdated?!) 🙀 rattan and glass coffee table but I know it’s not everyone’s style. Thanks for sharing your ideas I enjoy watching and learning from your channel.
I so agree with you! Especially the party where you tell us where we can get the wallpaper and people want the exact link! The audacity! Lol I think people who've really interested should be able to put in that much effort at the least.
Thank you so much for sharing your vast creativity on your channel❣️ I am a recent subscriber and planning the furnishing of a new flat. You have given me so much confidence in sticking to my style and loves. Your kitchen makeover blew my mind. So so elegant!
The idea about designing around a character reminded me of a fantastic house museum (18 Folgate Street) in London, which was designed around a fictional 18th-century Huguenot silk weaver family.
Your advice was extremely helpful! I never thought to design around a story. Thank you for sharing what you learned during a master class. I love your videos! 💕
Looking around my comfort I have just one large piece of furniture I bought retail: a butterscotch leather sofa. It goes with literally any other color. Everything else is either thrifted, handed down, antique, or a fabulous bargain. I even have traded items. My rug is new but that it. I definitely have things with a story...the theme being the $$$ saved or fantastic find of a bargain. I love your advice.
Idea to bring in Texas to your style... Either a sculpture or a print of a high-heeled cowboy boot. Or a cowboy boot made of a completely wacky material, like yarn or maybe glued-together lacquered candy.
Excellent video!! “I’m high maintenance”!🤣🤣 me too! 👊 You’re right, design is so specific to each person‘s own taste. I see some high end designs that I think look hideous to me. Seriously a great video full of great info and loving the #Parisiantexas vibe
Really informative and also you made me laugh quite a few times there 🤣❤️. What I’ve found difficult renting at different times is that my interior design changed depending on the build. Also, I’m a new traditionalist on your quiz (probably take your quiz every year and that’s been me for years - I was something else at the beginning but can’t remember what .. it seemed like a combo title) and that makes sense and I have some eclectic taste on top of that and I think I sometimes mess up that balance. That’s why I will be asking your help when I get my home 🙏🏻🙏🏻💕💕 I need someone to tone down my ‘spiritual’ side a just a little lol
Renting definitely makes decorating more challenging! I’ve been in my rental two years and I’m now doing a major rearrangement of furniture because the traditional use of spaces just wasn’t working with my lifestyle and existing furniture. Fingers crossed that I can finally achieve the look I’m going for without needing to buy new items.
A lot of great advice here. Curious to see if you advance with the the Paris, Texas vibe idea, or veer off into something entirely different. Always interesting to hear your thought process.
Very helpful, thank you. I've made some of these mistakes too. Now I only care what I think - but I am open to advice from you and other professionals.
I have a question. I have lived in my NYC apt for YEARS!!! My living room/ dining room is a tiny 15x13 feet. I have 3 tables in this area and they are all glass ( so it doesn’t look cluttered).I am replacing all 3 tables. The entry table I just purchased is gold frame with a glass top. The coffee table is round, with a gold frame, with a glass top and “marble” bottom shelf. My question is should I/ can I purchase a round wood mid-century dining table to mix it up a bit or stick with the glass top and wood bottom. This would really help me. All opinions are welcomed
I work in estate sales and applauded when you were talking about vintage pieces! They truly give necessary depth to a home

Another outstanding video! Thank you. Re incorporating Texas- the state flower is the bluebonnet.
Love your take on everything! I'm in an apartment and my dinette area is my office as well. Continue sharing with us, and don't allow negativity to pluck your nerves. I can appreciate giving reasons to substantiate your selections, however. It brings about clarity, for certain.
Hello Mariam, how are you doing?
My husband (God rest his soul) used to always say..."the best ideas are other people's ideas"...I've learned to live by that, so I always pay attention to what other people have to say and I'm always finding gems. I've gathered a lot of gems from you.
Thank you!!!
Hello Tina, how are you doing?
Great video and advice, Baiyina! I was angry at some of the ridiculous comments on one of your previous videos - seemed to be a very negative reaction - hope it doesn’t get to you and please know that most of your followers admire the work you do and appreciate your views on all things design. ❤️
Hello Caroline, how are you doing?
Yassss Baiyina!!! You tell them. People are feeling entitled, thinking that it’s your job to post all of your connects bc you are a creator. You share so much and I appreciate it.
I know art is subjective but I am at the point of adding the finishing touches to my design. I purchase pieces from Etsy and thrift stores but art has been difficult. Would you consider a video on how you decide on your pieces? I have a very neutral home but would love infusing color through art.
Your decorating advice is always useful. I love your honest delivery style too. Thanks for doing such pure and honest videos, Baiyina.
This is the smartest, most helpful decorating video I’ve ever seen! I love decorating and have learned by making mistakes over many years. Awesome! 👍👍
😁 Our styles are very different but I can always take something away from each of your videos, because of the fundamentals of what you're sharing and tailoring it to myself. You're not asking us to be copies of you, you're helping your viewers to see what important to us and how not to waste money. I appreciate you 💖
Very helpful! Ran to dollar tree. Got the contact paper, mounted it and have gotten compliments ever since.
Too fast*
Great straightforward advice! That’s what I like about you. Keep doing what you do.
You keep it so real, I just love it. Super helpful video, yet again. Your living room is looking amazing!
Somebody made you mad. It’s ok, I understand and appreciate you’re knowledgeable advice. ☺️
@@ff2154 nailed it 🎯
I loved everything you said in this video. I’ve decided to slow down on decorating my bedroom to the T because I do plan on buying a house in the coming year. And I don’t want to over decorate it whereas I won’t use use half the items. However if I see something I love, I’m getting it! LOL!
Love you setting those boundaries with the “so easily offended” viewers. 🙋♀️
I want my house to look like a middle class home from 1965. Meaning small hints of designs to come and a smal MCM but also a middle class family would have floors from the turn of century and maybe wallpaper from the 40s and inherited furniture from family. From all different times.
That's an interesting (and well thought out) concept.
Idea: Watch old tv shows (on line) and see what’s in the background in the homes.
You sound like a true artist! A visionary. Your home is no doubt a true reflection of your unique perspective. I can SEE it, yet I don't know you nor have I ever seen your home. It's meticulously wonderful...just like you! One might say, "well appointed." Be encouraged...
Solid advice all around - especially about listening to advice from a trusted source! Bravo 👏👏👏
Love love love this video and all the others. Love that you don’t hold back and say it straight.
A real honest help finally!!!!! Thank you
Great advice again! I need new end tables and because of you I’m going to scour the vintage market. Keep up the great content.
You go, Spicy Lady! Personally I live that you're calling out the down players!
#Spicy Parisian Texan #
I love your perspective and sense of humor.
Love your channel! Thank you for sharing your gift with us
Good for you B, don’t take any crap!
LOL. I have a very old silk rug in my kitchen, too. Works for me!
Love your style and advice its priceless.
Amen! Amen to all of it! Thanks for another great video, Baiyina!
i love the laundry room being contact papered Im gonna try it thats a great idea!!!
Super helpful, thank you, Baiyina!
I love your channel and ideas and have learned a lot. Thanks!
I love all your videos. I just love everything you say. Please make a video about decorating with stripes.
This was right on target, B. Great job. Your videos are always informative and inspiring. Thanks so much. Blessings from California XXX
Hello Mary,how are you doing?
Excellent video!! “I’m high maintenance”!🤣🤣 me too! 👊 You’re right, design is so specific to each person‘s own taste. I see some high end designs that I think look hideous to me. Seriously a great video full of great info and loving the #Parisiantexas vibe
Off topic: Could you do a current soft classic clothing video 🙏🏼please
Right! Choose paintings that inspire rather than because it matches you color scheme per se.
Great advice! I like the straightforward this is my channel! Yes!!!
I am so happy I found your channel!
