Just discovered the Eclectic Decorating Style and I couldn't be happier! Finally found a perfect way to express my individuality and unleash my creativity. Can't wait to transform my space and make it truly unique!
Omg thats me and i just realized that like i have some many small little things i tried grouping and stacking but that can only work for a season amd then its just there nothing sparks joy but somehow i cant let it go. So what i did was said i like it. I enjoyed it and and now its time to allow new joy for new things and i can let it go. Im happy to let someone else enjoy it
Most of my pieces are either found, thrifted or inherited, so, eclectic? I really love your nail color. It matches your throw and sculpture. I'd like to replace my sofa and dining table but struggle with the cost... Instead of shopping, I binge on RUclips design and love your channel, a lot!!!
I just retired and am just pulling the trigger on several key pieces of furniture. Thanks so much for your timely and excellent advice!!! You're the best!!!
Well said. It does take a long time to make a plan, change your mind, make mistakes, contemplate life, and finally put everything together. Your videos always give me a nugget use useful info / perspective.
Great vid! I’m modern, classic and masculine. I’m striving for that European vibe even though I don’t have wall moulding or herringbone floors. Your advice about shopping too much is spot on for me. The goal for 2022 is to be more sustainable and shop less. I’m honing in what I really need which is a rug for the primary bedroom and a mirror. Thanks!
I like eclectic but supreme comfort for me is extremely important since I need lax-z boy couch with a high back for arthritic spine support. It works in my living space, and I still have beautiful paintings and other eclectic touches. Also, many older European homes don’t follow any specific design. There are unique antiques, travel memorabilia, antique rugs and furniture. It looks like items were put there over many years if not centuries. I like the old Manor style also.
I agree about comfort. I had a wreck in high school that messed up my knees. Years later I struggle to get up off a low couch, so I got a la-z-boy sofa. Don’t really care if it’s a “mistake”. LOL I think you should do whatever makes you happy and comfortable in YOUR own home. I didn’t think eclectic was constrained by any rules?
According to your style quiz, I'm eclectic and I'm not surprised. It has finally hit me that I can really like various styles, but that doesn't mean I have to include it in my own home. I can love and appreciate it over there .... but not necessarily in my home. In my living room now, I have touches of chinoiserie, transitional, traditional, and those 70s colored glass lamps that light up in the base- but I'm so tempted to scrap it all and go with some sort of light, feminine, comfy, scandi - if that even has a name/category. I think I'd love that. This is getting expensive, though. I need to get it figured out and stop changing up things so much.
I can’t thank you enough for your videos! I found a multi arch chandelier lamp that I loved but it was really expensive so I decided to wait. I happened to look on Facebook marketplace and I found one that’s very similar to it for $90 😱😱😱😱 I just came back from picking it up and it’s perfect for my transitional decor. Love your channel, you give such good advice!
Love your channel..im such an eclectic and a designer myself:) this makes so much sense to me ...It can be amazing or a curse! So true...keeps it real.Thankd
This was so helpful! I aspire to be eclectic, but most of my furniture is inherited and almost exclusively traditional/transitional. As I add new items, I try to incorporate pieces that will break it up, but have been struggling to feel confident in those decisions. This has given some really great direction so I can feel like even though I'm buying things slowly, I'm still heading towards a cohesive whole! I'm going for traditional, boho, something. Figuring out what style #3 is will probebly help!
Very good guidance! I am definitely eclectic and need my boundaries haha! The rule of three in style and sticking to a color palette. And the ability to edit which is harder for eclectics than others because so much brings me joy !
Always great informative and helpful videos my interior style is eclectic with a masculine twist by the way I’m noticing in this video your sofa throw the decor piece behind you and your nails are the color hue thanks for the video great job!
You totally nailed it with this one! I took your quiz, and you said modern eclectic with me. I absolutely believe that. While watching your video, I really thought about the three types of styles that I have, and it really did come down to three different styles for me. Mid century modern, Japanese/Asian influence, would not quite call it Japandi, and Believe it or not some cottage core/granny chic. The reason I threw that one in is that I’ve got a few tea pots on display, and I have a tendency to absolutely love pillows, and I’ve got a few kind of homemade looking floral pillows on my bed. I also have a small table made by my great grandfather, and A floor vase made by my great grandmother probably in the 1910s. I feel like it works together all pretty well.
Great video, Baiyina! Finding the ideal things you need does take time & sometimes it feels like I’m never going to get there. Just have to be patient & lucky. The key thing is not to make hasty decisions on big ticket items or buy small stuff that will do for now. Like you, I’m fond of Parisienne interiors with a sophisticated classic/transitional twist. I’d like to do glam but fear it looking tacky.
Took the style quiz , eclectic. How do you make it work in context of place and the architecture specially if it's a rental . Interested in your Paris Texas concept. My primary style is boho (leaning toward dark Spanish Colonial furniture and folk art), MCM-brutalist (secondary) and Hollywood regency (terciary). I live in Scandinavia. I've switched the order to make sourcing possible. Ikea basics in dark brown colorways (1), Churrigueresque+norwegian folk art (2) and deco lighting & brass accessories (3)
Thanks for the helpful tips! We are also doing Parisian- so a mix of classic and modern- but we also love natural elements (not sure if that is a different style/eclectic)- but bringing in woods, ceramics, wool is important to us.
Yes! I do this! I have a ton of thrifted vases because I get them at a good price and they’re all in my basement! Problem is I need larger items but have a hard time finding deals no matter how hard I try!
Baiyina, I may have missed this, but have you let your landlord know you're an interior designer with a YT channel? Maybe they'd let you put up some crown and picture moulding. I've done poly (it's kinda like a foam board) moulding before and it's great and affordable. Maybe some marble and a fussy mantle on your FP (which you can make out of the same material)? Just thinking how you can get that Parisian architectural base to work off of.
I think I'm eclectic cuz I love Craftsman (Arts & Crafts style), yet my Italian leather sofa in camel is Modern and I love Rustic casegoods. Then my bedroom is a whole different genre, Bohemian n Cali Coastal. I could never just pick one; I would get bored too fast n feel pidgeon holed n too cookie cutter. Yes, I too suffer from my interior design passion.
Eclectic here for sure. I started out all vintage mid century when I moved into a small 1960's ranch but over time I felt like it didn't look homey so I started adding more traditional pieces and not so many crazy abstracts. I look around sometimes and wonder if it all goes together.. I think it does.. THere are so many things out there in thrift stores, yard sales and flea markets so you are right about the shopping... always finding stuff!
Your so right about restraint, I end up getting things that I think are neat at the time and then end up not using or liking. I am cottage/cozy, traditional and glamorous style. I love folk art, but I am also paint folk art lol.
Totally eclectic. I grew up with my grandma and great-aunt "junkin'". I LOVE thrifting. Taking the time to find what it is I really like, that is SO much fun. The creative side of seeing a space. Thanks for the guidance. Oh, I believe I'm a transitional, eclectic.
I think this is what your test told me my taste was. I love Edwardian/Victorian, Cottage core, & 40s-60s style things. I have a pretty good idea of how to have what I want without things getting too pricey because I either thrifted, made, or was given much of what I own. But your videos really help me a lot not to look too busy & helps me balance my tastes with my boyfriend’s
Okay. They're coming out with decorating reality shows. What I would love to watch is an open minded decorator. Go into a real person's house and help them redecorate with what they already have. Some program should think of this and snap you up. I love eclectic. Keep thinking I would be addicted to that programing. You got it. Wish I knew who to contact about this reality TV show. Hand me downs, traded pieces, Goodwill redo's, make do's, side of the road finds. I love magic. Wish I could share pictures. You have the magic, run with it.
My style is eclectic because of where I live and have lived and it was not intentional. Originally from Manhattan, so for me it was traditional. French provincial and other mahogany furniture. When I moved to beachy Cape Cod, I now loved wicker and driftwood but I was not about to give up my beloved NYC furniture so I now added a little beachy. Next I wanted some modern elements to balance the other two. And so my eclectic house truly evolved over decades adding garden sculptures indoors. Walls are just about bare except for a couple of hanging scrolls from trips to Japan and China. Lastly, buddhas for my spiritual practice and uncluttered spaces...some plants and always fresh flowers.
I’m eclectic. So was my mother and her combinations in her home used to drive me crazy with a few exceptions. Now I’m driving myself crazy. I do think I have my big pieces working now, but I’m frustrated about pattern and color mixing. Don’t like it unless it really works. It works in pictures but in person that same combo drives me crazy.
Baiyina, you mentioned some of your favorite thrift stores in LAX. I am going to visit my daughter soon and would love to check them out. I am also keto so hankering for a good bakery 😀
Pepe's Thrifty Shop (Culver City) , House 1002 (in San Pedro), BTS Thrift Store (in Culver City), Copenhagen Pastry (Culver City) tell me on insta if you go there or tag me :)
I'd also add to be aware of the shapes of furniture. The majority of my furniture in my lounge is rectangular. I intentionally broke it up with circular shaped furniture such as an ottomon, side tables and floor lamps with circular heads, curved/cylinder vases.
I like the same style you do and have definetly been buying a lot of the little things. I'm experiencing everything you said about that too... ugh. I have a mirror I recently put up that I was laying in bed having buyers remorse over last night and a side table. They may still work out... I hope, cause my husband is gonna kill me : / lol. No more little things until I get the big stuff handled!
Ooo I love classic, modern, and masculine glamor, even though I’m female. How interesting. I have too many chairs because I do think of chairs as art. Yes, because I love design. Anyway wow your videos are fantastic.
Interior styling is soooo complicated isn't it. I'm thinking of painting my kitchen cabinets a dark green, do you think this will be dated looking I a few years? I love the planter and plant on the left. Where did you get the planter and what plant is this?
I have made all of those mistakes. I’ve bought a bunch of small items that turn to clutter instead of style and not focusing on the big pieces. I’ve been trying to find the right sofa and storage for years!
@@baiyinadotcom thanks! Definitely inspired by looks in Phoenix, I live in Las Vegas and have a Spanish style home, so I feel like they go well, think art deco light fixtures and color pops, with the more laid back furniture of Southwest and earthy base colors, with bits of modern like the media center, concrete counters, and some accessories
Oh, I'm for sure eclectic. I'm so dang eclectic I haven't been able to truly pinpoint my dominant styles. I like a little bit from every style. Handmade Imperfect Primitive Ethnic Comfy Japandi Mid-Century Vintage Art Deco Industrial Shiny Sparkly Glam Boho. I wish I could be a minimalist, but its the only thing I'm NOT!
My mistakes are normally fillers until I find the perfect piece and 2 dogs who like peeing on my favorite rugs and I have to replace them(rugs not dogs)
Great reminder that decor doesn’t have to be rushed! As usual, great video! 👍
I love Afro Bohemian. I buy what I love, and make it work.
Just discovered the Eclectic Decorating Style and I couldn't be happier! Finally found a perfect way to express my individuality and unleash my creativity. Can't wait to transform my space and make it truly unique!
Eclectic here too. I can relate to buying too many small things and not enough big ticket items...
Im happy to let someone else enjoy it
OMG! You make me laugh😆. I am also eclectic. Everything you say sounds so familiar. I have learned to control myself.
Most of my pieces are either found, thrifted or inherited, so, eclectic?
I really love your nail color. It matches your throw and sculpture.
I'd like to replace my sofa and dining table but struggle with the cost...

#FACTS 🙌🏽✨ “more effective visually to have fewer but larger things in a space.” PREACH!!!
I love the modern contrasting with traditional architecture like you’ve shown in Parisian apartments.
Me too! My absolute favorite.

so glad you said that about the generic sofa - didn't consider that particular mistake!
I love the bohemian vibe, with a mixture of afrocentric, and a tiny bit of art deco and mid-century modern.

Yes, shopping too much is a problem, especially when you thrift. So many great accessories!

From your description it makes me think of some designers out of the UK I've seen like Beata Heuman and Sophie Ashby. I like the mix.
Great advice 🙏🏾❤️❤️🙏🏾.
