      No. FWC no longer mandates killing. They suggest release into the same body of water.

    I'm from Maryland and we have the northern snakehead up here that are so fun to catch and delicious eating! I swear it I'm going to take a trip to Florida and my goal is to get a bullseye, clownknife, and a peacock

      Let me know when you're here. I can guide you for all 3. My PB snake is about 7 lb, clownknife is about 7 lb. And peacock is about 6 💥🎣 I'm located in west palm beach about an hour north of Miami. The fishing here is just as Florida as it gets.

    Are there alot of ponds/lakes like that down there I have only ever fished the canals in south Florida for peacocks, largies, pacu and talaps never saw bowfin or snakedheads or even knife fish

      “Mad that you released it” ? I guess you must be a younger angler if you think that it’s “nice catch and release”. You must not remember when you could go out and catch 40 to 50 snakehead in a day because they took over the waterways and killing everything in their paths . The only reason why we can still fish for other species of fish is because the law of killing snakehead when caught. So you might not be a idiot but ignorance can’t be that bliss.

      @@swkelley FWA still recommends keeping them but you’re correct it’s not annihilating local populations as they thought but every bite they take is one a native didn’t. That said apparently they eat cane toads which is a plus. Florida is such an invasive mess. With the canal system ruining the proper hydro cycle all the way through to the pythons. Interesting to see how it will balance out in the future.

      Braided line + Top Water Frog. Long cast 3-6 feet off the bank. Steady retrieve. Sometimes you'll see the fish dart out and follow the frog other times you just see a strike. Wait a second or two before you set the hook. When you do set...set hard. Almost any canal should have them.

      @@robertpalma9176 most of the time it’s not about seeing them. Lots of casts and walking. I’ve had success in Coral Springs, sunrise and Plantation. All along state road 84 is decent. All the canals connected. Stick with it.

      Give it another 4-6 weeks or so and they will be fry guarding! If you can’t catch them then there is no hope!

      They're not typically that far north, you can find them more towards the Ft. Lauderdale and West Palm Beach areas. Kissimmee is loaded with monster largemouth's though, and a great place for crappie.
