KFM Wing maiden flight (and some crashes)...first time ever trying to fly a flying wing!

  • All right here is the maiden flight of the KFM Wing. I went into this not sure if I could get the hang of it in one sitting OR if I'd be heading home with pieces. Well the durability of this wing really impressed me, especially considering how many times it hit the ground. So, despite some crashes there were some repairs at the end of the day but nothing too serious OR any "pieces". I also did manage to get her airborne for a little while and enjoy just a slow flight with it...which is a good change as most flying wings are meant to be flown fast. So the fact that I got to fly my first flying wing AND this thing could handle slower flight made it a great intro into the flying wing side of the hobby. So maybe next time, I can really open her up and see what kind of speed she can do.
Oh yeah, I even managed to do some slight repairs at the field which you will see in the video.
As I later found out, one must be easy with the throttle on launch as it can cause torque roll on the KFM Wing. I'm pretty sure that's what happening here. So next time, we'll try a little less throttle on launch to see if that fixes that particular issue and make launches not quite so scary!
    Here's the electronic setup:
2300KV brushless motor (generic Emax red bottom)
    30A ESC
    3S 1000Mah lipo
    5x4x3 prop
    2 x 9g servos
    Power Up DSMX receiver
    Spektrum DX6 transmitter
FYI...I am still having some issues with my recording camera which I think I have narrowed down to the SD card. So, the whole footage for this flight/crash did get cut off, BUT I was able to recover most of it.

Great job congratulations!...one thing to try is center up your battery placement I have a feeling it will help to prevent the wing from rolling to the right on takeoff

Thanks! Ya know...that is just something I didn't even think about with this. I'm definitely going to be investigating that further.

If nothing else - she can TAKE a hit!! 😜 Looked great once you got it up there. I'm now even more chicken to try a Wing!! 😳
The KFM Wing design is certainly durable though. I was impressed.

Oh definitely...the nose is just a tad crumpled after all that. If you could do bank and yank you could do a wing...right stick does all the work and then however much throttle you want to give. It wasn't too bad at all once airborne.

I'm actually BETTER at Bank and Yank! The Rudder throws me off...
I'm USED to using my feet for Yaw control.
I'd try one... Maybe a Tractor to start with. Forgot the name, but an early FT design is just a Wing.

Seems to fly pretty decent, tho that takeoff is super sketch. You outta try a backwards toss! If you hold it by the nose with arm outstretched and fling it over head behind you, it acts like a normal throw! Preferred method for launching pushers for myself
