Thanks for coming back and letting us know your view on the scent, makes me eager to go out and have a word with mine and ask to get a move on lol I find that encouraging as well as i find that on a wet day, even the strongest scented roses i have are not as strong on those days. As you brought yours indoors sounds like you were able to appreciate the full scent. Glad you are enjoying your rose:)
Gez_rosa_newby Hi, yes have a word it might help and if you could speak to Mr Rain that would be great ! Raining for most of the day here :( Yes I brought her indoors out of the rain and that bud was low down on the shrub, almost on the ground as we've had so much rain. She is definitely scenting the room she is, I just went through there to make a coffee and could smell it as I walked through. Interestingly, she is many shades on the same rose bud as it opens up, from a very dark coral pink at the edges to a pale creamy lemon with pale pink, apricot and salmon it's unusual the way it's opening up with all the different tones, last year Penelope Lively had this characteristic but not to as greater extent as this, she was several tones but all in the same colourway this has a bigger contrast of colours as well as tones but it's still opening up so will have to wait a while yet to see how she develops:) I really hope you won't have long to wait for yours, the weekend is looking much better 🤞
I noticed on your video that you say you are no expert, however you described the scent very well and now the look of the rose very succinctly in all it's shades. The reason I was taken with this rose is not that it was another pink ( which I love anyway ) but that it had stages of different beautiful shades. I remember going nutty about Princess Anne rose, I got the bush and a standard because not only that she has a wonderful scent but the way she changes colours. I know the main problem we have as enthusiasts is space lol
My first bloom only appeared today , wow it opens to a most beautiful form, looking forward to seeing the whole flush and the change from the salmon pink to the other shades, when I first went to sniff I didn't get any scent, but later in the day I did, I'm assuming it was not fully open, however I am aware that in certain weather conditions roses in general don't always have a strong or any scent, many a time I have gone to sniff and come away deflated as a rose ( thinking of Chandos Beauty the last time it happened) is not as strong or no scent at all. However I now know what you mean about the scent, you described it very well, I'm useless I just get my nose stuck in a bloom withdraw and exclaim gorgeous:) and on the larger blooms like Princess Alexandra of Kent I inhale so deeply I swear that one day the rose is gonna come off and be stuck to most of my face lol. Like you I cut my first bloom off to take in the house, love this rose so much, the bloom I have it's not that large, but for me it's form and colour is so attractive, my eyes are constantly drawn to it. Will be interesting to see how long it will last as a cut flower as I know that a lot of DA roses don't last as cut.
@@Gez_rosa_newby Hi, I'm pleased to hear you got your first bloom ! Mine lasted 5 days in the vase, pretty good for her first bloom I thought and the perfume lasted too. The many colours on one bloom are intriguing, she's really quite lovely. I'm enjoying Emma Bridgewater so far. Hopefully you will have many blooms to come and enjoy throughout the summer, take care and I hope the weather is okay wherever you are? Here today is awful, wet and windy - definitely not a gardening day :(
@kenvoong5977 You are funny I am definitely no expert in anything ! I do appreciate a good perfume though. First paycheck I ever received was mostly spent at the perfume counter much to the dismay of my father who was not impressed when I came home with my little white Chanel bags. I can still hear him yelling to my mother "HOW MUCH ?!" hahaha
Glad your happy with it Linda. 👍🌹 Have you got 'Bring me Sunshine" ? I fully agree with Ken's latest video on it. Mine is 2 years old now and has 90! buds ready to pop!
@gavinparry5426 Thanks Gavin, no I don't have any yellow roses. I did see Ken and Lin's videos, wasn't it great to see them enjoying DA's gardens. It's the kind of place, from the minute you arrive there to leaving, you have a big grin on your face haha I know I did when I went in '22 and yes Bring Me Sunshine looked very impressive, I would definitely consider it as a gift for my Mum in Law as she is a big fan of yellows and oranges. 90 buds wow that must be a record !
Lovely. I think sometimes (just occasionally mind) the fragrance on some roses is undersold. Boscobel and bliss Parfuma to name 2. But you’re putting it at medium perhaps strong enough for me to detect… something :) glad your happy with it Linda :) I’m sure it will do very well in your garden.
@Jay_Jay Hi Jay Jay, hopefully you will get chance to try a sniff test soon if you spot it when you're out and about anywhere but for me, today, it's giving a good throw and the room I left it in this morning definitely is scented with it, a lovely perfume, very nice. Hopefully it settles in to it's new home and does well, it's certainly not going to want for water at the moment ! hah
Well, Linda, you are obviously VERY taken with the fragrance of this rose! I think DA should give you a job creating perfume for them. I think women generally have a better sense of smell than men, so perhaps when DA describe the strength of a rose's fragrance they adjust it down so that they don't get complaints from men? I hope Emma continues to surprise and delight you!
@nikkonch Hi Nik, I do enjoy perfume and she does have a really lovely summer type fragrance, by that I mean not a heady make you swoon old rose fragrance that knocks you off your feet, she's much fresher than that. Almost like comparing a winter evening perfume to a daytime summer one, if that makes sense ?! Still raining here, managed to get some things potted on from the greenhouse but not much in the way of gardening today sadly. Hope it's a bit brighter where you, take care.
Hi Linda, You did very well describing the fragrance. I'm not very good at that. Hasn't the weather been awful? I'm getting really fed up with all this rain as it's battering my plants and my "Gentle Hermione" has gone really floppy so I've been out and staked her. Keep seeing all the jobs that need doing but I gather that the weather is going to improve. Let's hope so as I have so many things that need planting. I finished the last of my hanging baskets yesterday so that used up a lot of plants and cleared some space. Sure my neighbours must think that I have a market stall!
@wendybartlett6717 Hi Wendy, thanks. Yes the weather is dreadful at the moment. The roses are not enjoying it are they? I have lots of buds waiting if they can survive the wet! I bet your baskets are fabulous, you put a lot of effort in to your garden it must be beautiful. Did you manage to get some more calibrachoa ? I'm sure your neighbours will appreciate all your hard work when everything is in flower. One thing for sure you won't need to water your baskets for a few days. It's supposed to be better weather for the rest of the week and into next week looking good so fingers crossed the roses can get a break from all this rain 🤞Take care have a good week xxx
@@soulgirlktf Hi Linda, Yes I bought loads of Calibrachoas from the garden centre. I was just miffed that I'd been nurturing the other ones which came as plug plants from Parker's. The slugs and snails can eat everything in one night. I seem to have lost a lot of plants this year. I'm looking after my brother's garden for ten days as he's on holiday with his family. Just found some Lily beetles having a good munch. At least I've not had to do loads of watering with the weather we've been having but I'll have to up my game if it improves. Take care Linda and hope you have a good week too. xxx
@@wendybartlett6717 Yes it's surprising the damage they can do especially to young plants very quickly and being so young they don't recover. Have you thought of getting those clear plastic lids to pop over them just until they get a bit stronger, I've got a few in the greenhouse for the tiny plants especially at night just in case they get hit. I am on a slug hunt at night in the garden the neighbours must think there's something strange going on over there haha. In a morning I check under all the pots in the greenhouse because that's where they like to hide in there. Yes the weather so far has been great for slugs :( Oh you've found some lily beetles I keep looking not seen any yet, at least they are red so it helps to spot them. Your brother is lucky you are there to look after his garden. I think the forecast is much better later this week onwards, enjoy your garden and take care xxx
@@soulgirlktf I've got a load of those lids Linda but I was naive and thought the top shelf in my zippy growhouse was going to be fine. I didn't believe that the slugs could travel so far in such a short time. I'll definitely be more careful next year. Last year it was birds pecking at the baby Cosmos tips so I kept those covered up this year. Keep forgetting to ask, how is Bougie doing? x
@@wendybartlett6717 Yes you would think so wouldn't you, crikey those things can climb anything ! It's been a bad year for fighting off slugs :( Good idea with the cosmos, although mine look battered from the rain now, poor little things they've had it rough so far. Bougie is doing great thank you, she's behaving haha no hissy fits yet but there's time :) I gave her a weak feed the other day and thought are you going to have a strop now I've done that ? lol it's like the three bears with bougie not too hot not too cold 🤣 xxx
Good morning Linda. It's a wet one here so nice to see the video of your Emma B and hear your comments. I guess there'll be more good things to come? I've done the necessary watering and a bit of dead heading on the Mme. Alfred C as the Collared Doves keep flying into it. For many years they've nested in it successfully so we'll see what happens. Enjoy the day. P.
@peterhaymaker7562 Hi Peter, yes it's a bit drizzly here today. I have many roses on the brink of opening but the weather is slowing things down at the moment. Alfred a great spot for the doves, I hope they do fingers crossed. Shame about the weather, so much I need to get planted but will have to wait, the weekend is looking much better, take care.
@@soulgirlktf Hi Linda, Lovely day today so far. Crazy in Love I'm not familiar with but I've read up about it and it seems it can grow into quite a tall rose with a nice scent. It seems similar to my Aloha in colour and scent, which is second to none in my garden, but mabe not in height. Although 'they' say Aloha can grow to 12 feet, mine after many years is about seven feeet but no complaints and she's growing better this year than ever. The doves have nested in the Mme A.
