4:13 I'm not sure about the wd black one but I know a lot of people buy the samsung t9 and get confused regarding the speed being not as advertised. The issue is the t9 uses a rare usb spec (3.2 gen 2x2. It is 20gbps and despite thunderbolt being 40, it is not backwards compatible with the 20gbps spec so when plugged into thunderbolt it goes back to 10gbps) to achieve this 2GB/s speed which is the same one the wd black one advertises so I assume it also uses that. All apple devices and almost all windows devices do not support this usb spec and so it defaults back to 10gbps instead of the advertised 20gbps. The x10 pro you're fond of also uses this spec so I'm not sure it's worth paying almost twice the money over the x9 pro for you or anyone when you aren't accessing the only performance difference. Did you test multiple copies of each make and model drive or only a single copy of each? It seems to me what would be best is to test at the very least two physical drives of each make and model? Do you feel the best setup for short and long term storage processes is to run your system with a fast SSD and then to use HDDs strictly as storage backups? Just an FYI: Regarding the Crucial X10 Pro.. I am not tech savvy at all, but I heard that the X10 is a Gen 2.2, and evidently Macs are not compatible with dual lane speeds. The X9's on the other hand, are. So, for me, it keeps coming up all over the place that the Crucial X9 Pro is the (best affordable) one to get for my iMac. This video finally sealed it for me.
Recently bought the Crucial X10 Pro and returned it Amazon because - despite being sold as having onboard 256-bit AES - in fact as of today (12th Oct. 24) there is NO encryption available at all (until a new Firmware is released). WTF. Suggest your review should include 'Security' for removable SSD's as well as all the usual factors?

Great video. Be great to see an update video on SSD’s for the iPhone 16 Pro and filming in pro res raw at 4K 120 💪🏼seems to be loads of issues trying to film this format to an external ssd
Could you test another t7 with the iphone for prores? There has to be something wrong with your unit. Prores does not really require much bandwidth. It could in theory be recorded onto an sd card. 4k 60 prores HQ is only 800Mb/s so around 100 megabytes per second write. There is not a single SSD on the market that cannot do 100MB/s write.
I swear to god, my crucial x6 1TB is always as cold as ice. To touch its actually cold. not even room temperature , and never has gotten hot. My worst experience and nightmare is western digital and sandisk, my usbs keeps getting corrupted and get blazing hot to touch, many times i use something to hold it and pull the usb out

Hi! I want to buy an external SSD for gaming since my current gaming laptop has a 512gb M.2 which is already full. I just really don't know because i've read so many different stories. Do you have any idea what my best option is at the moment because I can't figure it out myself anymore.
ive got the SanDisk 1TB Extreme PRO Portable; i did loose a project which is messed up BUT the update they release fixed the problem and ive used it for editing ever sinse, i will buy the CrucialX10 pro 2TB as i need an extra one and it looks descent
Just the video I was looking for. Sadly I think the FTC needs to apply pressure on Sandisk to either fix this or pull them off the shelves. A law firm should look into a class action lawsuit. Btw thank you so much. Just placed an order for the Crucial
What about the WD Black X850 - will it have the same heat and speed issues as the WD BLACK P40? Have any WD drives had major issues or just sandisk (even though it's the same company?) I'm looking for an 8TB drive but there really are hardly any options apart from the x850 and Sandisk 8TB

Thanks, did you get the x9pro or the x9pro Mac? I’m looking online and there’s two different versions, for me it will be for Mac laptop but would be handy to be able to flip files on windows to so suspect the x9pro will be the one for me
That's fascinating that you had issues with recording iphone prores to the t7 shield. Even full fat prores bitrate does not approach the transfer speed of a regular sata ssd, let alone the 1GB/s of these usb 3.2 nvme drives. So that you had an issue is really strange. I wonder why.
Great Review. . . USB-C_SanDisk Extreme 4tb vs 4tb Samsung T7_FULL NTFS FORMAT completed. Used Crystal DiskMark same test settings for each. Performed test several times. The SanDisk was much faster, haven't had a failure on any of the 4 we own in 2tb or 4tb. They are used for Davinci Resolve editing from SSD. I think the FULL FORMAT is important. We returned (1) that wouldn't complete the full format. Windows 10 and 11 is funny about blocking USB drives. Thank you

Great video! Very complete and with a lot of interesting info. I would like to ask if you considered or tested the Kingston XS2000. I would like to see a comparison with the crucial. Right now I'm working with big datasets and I would like to have an external SSD for storage these datasets and results, which may be lots of "little" files and some big files (maybe just some GB for file). I lost all of my photos on a Sandisk. The follow up support from their customer service has been horrible. Back up your external drives!! I learned the hard way. I’ll never buy a sandisk product again.
Sorry just a question from a total newbie. If the Acasis is just an enclosure for any internal NVMe drive can’t I just buy any enclosure and put in a NVMe and get amazing speeds of an NVMe? What makes Acasis unique in that respect?
@@AlexGTech some info from my side: i have a sabrent thunderbolt 3 case and a unibos thunderbolt 4 case and for the unibos the usb 3 fallback does not work reliable .. even though the speeds are insane, on some laptops it does not get recognized, so it is not ideal for sharing projects with other people ..
I could sure use some help with an 8TB Seagate Drive/Hub that I use for data storage from my Linux Desktop. I have about 6 Seagate drives, but this one apparently will go to "sleep" if it sits idle for 10 minutes or so. When you go to access the drive after sleep, it will stall ... and take several minutes to open the window you are trying to access ... this is often accompanied with a File System corruption. I have to run an FSCK ... multiple times per day. Forums haven't been helpful ... trying to adjust that "sleep" time interval is unsuccessful. This has been an ongoing issue with my Seagate External Drives ... spinners or SSD. I get them for a reasonable price, and I wouldn't mind spending more for a drive if I actually get more ... especially for reliability.
My crucial died in one month in and i lost of my data. I cant understand why because i eject before removing. My one touch drive from seagate has lasted years…. Not trusting crucial again
Very unusual… not just saying this because I like Crucial by the way, I couldn’t care less about the brand, but I’d love to know if it was the X9 or X10, or another model that failed? I’d like to see if I can replicate the issue for the next video.

this my first time looking for ssd external drive and while i was lost .. bought the sandisk normal 1tb...i hope mine don't have issue...and also i subbed also great video 😊
Glad I could help and hope the Sandisk stays strong!
and welcome aboard 🥰
I’ve had a Samsung T5 since 2020 and never had issues with it. Only used for gaming though
Awesome, you saved me however I'm seeing this 6 months later :)
Which ssd will you recommend for long term file storage, like you mentioned photos etc?
You’re literally the only person that’s truthful, I’m looking into ssd to run all my cc and mods on my windows 11 and I really wanna make a good choice. I wanna play the sims in peace ✌️
That's cool to hear, I'm glad my videos are helping 👊🏼
Great video. Be great to see an update video on SSD’s for the iPhone 16 Pro and filming in pro res raw at 4K 120 💪🏼seems to be loads of issues trying to film this format to an external ssd
Could you test another t7 with the iphone for prores? There has to be something wrong with your unit. Prores does not really require much bandwidth. It could in theory be recorded onto an sd card. 4k 60 prores HQ is only 800Mb/s so around 100 megabytes per second write.
There is not a single SSD on the market that cannot do 100MB/s write.
Subscribed. Just the data i needed and I like your testing and production quality.
Thanks for the sub! Much more to come 👊🏼
I swear to god, my crucial x6 1TB is always as cold as ice. To touch its actually cold. not even room temperature , and never has gotten hot.
My worst experience and nightmare is western digital and sandisk, my usbs keeps getting corrupted and get blazing hot to touch, many times i use something to hold it and pull the usb out
Great channel.
Can I ask you a question… i want to buy SSD that I can load just movies on and then connect it my Samsung smart television.
What SSD would recommend for this only purpose?
Thanks 🙏🏻
Can you test best HUB for macbook for now?
Awesome video!! Saved me time from researching all this myself!! Subscribed, keep up the great work!
Hi! I want to buy an external SSD for gaming since my current gaming laptop has a 512gb M.2 which is already full. I just really don't know because i've read so many different stories. Do you have any idea what my best option is at the moment because I can't figure it out myself anymore.
I lost a few videos to an Extreme a couple of years ago. It got WAY too hot and I suspect that’s the reason for failure.
You literally just saved me from buying the T7. Now I’m all in buying the Crucial X10 Pro 😉👍🏻
Great video I never knew about the Acasis enclosures.
Awesome devices, can’t live without them now!
ive got the SanDisk 1TB Extreme PRO Portable; i did loose a project which is messed up BUT the update they release fixed the problem and ive used it for editing ever sinse, i will buy the CrucialX10 pro 2TB as i need an extra one and it looks descent
Best SSD video I've found. Very nuanced and detailed testing where it matters not just benchmarks. Real life performance matters
Glad you liked it! Will keep these coming!
Have a Crucial X6 2TB, X9 Pro 4TB, X10 Pro 4TB for ProRes video from iPhone 15 Pro Max. Crucial believer and never turning back!
Ok you got me! I bought the Crucial X10 Pro with your link.
@@contidozack you’re gonna love it! My favourite still!
5:30 Today is Nov 29, 2024 and It's currently BLACK FRIDAY but the price of the 2TB Crucial X9 PRO is $109.99!!!
check out the Lexar stuff, I didn't include them in this video, but they are my favourite right now. (Included them in my Black Friday video yesterday)
im amazed with the quality content bro, i wish you all the best !!
Some good stuff here. really appreciate you sharing the SSD wisdom for us creators!
I’m shopping for an SSD for my new iPhone 16 Pro to film in prolog. Definitely including your data and my decision. Thank you.
My pleasure, glad you found it useful! I’m actually just testing a new one right now with the iPhone 16 Pro - the Lexar SL500 and the Professional GO. Spoiler alert: Amazing option 👀 video soon!
Thanks a lot for the video. I finally chose the Crucial X9 Pro - good value for money!
what is that small red cable? Haven't been able to find a good small cable
Super video… thank you!…. Spot on about SanDisk… have an Extreme and Pro and are a nightmare to mount / unmount and when me and a colleague share the drive it takes forever to mount on my MacBook…. The fear thinking a project / footage is gone 😢… Crucial it is so 😊… Thanks
Hi, I just lost all my photos from my iPhone relying on ICloud. They were my travel photos. What are the Main things that I need to purchase to Always have my photos. I am Not a tech person. I travel a lot and take a lot photos. Now I want to keep my photos and videos at least in 3places. So could you please tell me what to buy? 🙏🏻 thank you! Much appreciated
What about t9 4tb? Can I use with iPhone?
Thanks! Since I’m a student, I can’t afford most of them so it will be great if there’s an more affordable option…
ASUS TUF GAMING AS1000-J (this has an ssd inside) and Crucial X9 (NOT pro) are the options as for now
Thanks - thanks to you I went away from the Samsung and just picked up an x9 4tb for my 512gb mbp 2018❤
How are you finding the x9?
@@Capture262 it is good
Thanks, did you get the x9pro or the x9pro Mac?
Thank you
Great detailed review!!! I will for sure scoop up a C X10 Pro, and the enclosure with nvme
Hopefully you can also review SSD for iphone or for android 😅, thank you so much for the knowledge
WHICH SSD/HDD WOULD YOU RECCOMNED FOR HAVING "THE ONLY COPY" that you rarely access and which also lasts longer
Basically a safe backup right? The Samsung T5/T7 will be great for that. I can't trust Sandisk right now and Crucial would be overkill for that...
Also check out the Lacie stuff (HDD) pretty solid in my experience. Not the fastest but for a backup copy, that's all you need.
Whats the difference between enclosure and crucial x10 pro which one is more durable. Any pros and cons
thank you for the review..it is really helpful...i was confuses between Samsung's t7 and sandisk although i have crucial x6 already..now im gonna look for crucial x8
Glad I could help!
I own a macbook m1 at home. I will need a drive to copy large files (around 1tb-10tb each file) from my pc/ mac at work.
After some research I find that
For SSD:
- crucial X9 is sh*t.
- seagate id sh*t too. Better go with crucial X9 pro/ T7 shield. However, price of X9 pro has beed doubled up from the time you made the video.
How about a reliable HDD?
Great video! Very complete and with a lot of interesting info.
I would like to ask if you considered or tested the Kingston XS2000. I would like to see a comparison with the crucial.
Right now I'm working with big datasets and I would like to have an external SSD for storage these datasets and results, which may be lots of "little" files and some big files (maybe just some GB for file).
I think the crucial X10 would work for me, but happy to hear if someone had faced this issue and how you solved it, if you found a good ssd external drive for this.
What about the Samsung T9 SSD?
Thanks for the great video and congratulations on 123k subscribers. May I ask what is the computer configuration you use for video editing?
Excellent video! Sold me on the Crucial drives.
Thanks! Yeah they’re still my favourite in that form factor! Great speeds and super reliable
Hey Alex i have a question please. I like the older white Acasis enclosure that has some inputs built in. I was wondering which MVME SSD drive would you recommend to put in it if i would want to use it for my iphone 16 pro max and at the same time for my Mac desk top? I am looking to choose between 2TB and 4TB V3 only because V4 uses over 4.5W not good for iphones. But if you give me some ideas of of solid reliable quality of NVME SSD drives maybe i can choose from that will work on bo of my devices i would greatly appreciate it. I can only afford this once so it has to be good set up
I lost all of my photos on a Sandisk. The follow up support from their customer service has been horrible. Back up your external drives!! I learned the hard way. I’ll never buy a sandisk product again.
How about microSD card?
And pen drive
Did you try a file recovery program? That will usually work. Get them back and stay away from sandisk
Sorry just a question from a total newbie. If the Acasis is just an enclosure for any internal NVMe drive can’t I just buy any enclosure and put in a NVMe and get amazing speeds of an NVMe? What makes Acasis unique in that respect?
The X9 Pro has a “for Mac” option, is there a lot of difference? Im not sure its going to be for exclusive Mac use. Should i just get the normal one?
Love the video. Thanks for your research effort and being forward on how you picked. Hope to see more similar videos.
More to come for sure, thank you!
Can anyone recommend a good 1 TB SSD disc that has USB 3.1 port? (My pc doesn't have type c port) 😪
i would love a test of nvme cases, where you would put in just "internal nvme ssds"! great comparison btw, thx!
Thanks for the idea! I like that!
I am using a samsung t9 4tb as a ram/cache drive and backup.
Currently the WD P40 is on sale for Black Friday and I was gonna buy it but good thing I saw this video.
yeah - check Lexar instead... WD and Sandisk are ones to avoid I think...
Thankyou for your description
I just had my Western Digital dying on me and I really haven't used it at all...
Planning to buy X6 crucial, let me know if you guys are facing any issue.
Great video and information, thank you!
Glad it was helpful! 🙌🏼
Was there a typo for the price on the crucial x9 pro 2TB for $99? I see the 1TB for that price everywhere I look
I am sorry, you're right. it starts at 99 for the 1TB. My bad.
