The SanDisk was much faster, haven't had a failure on any of the 4 we own in 2tb or 4tb. They are used for Davinci Resolve editing from SSD. I think the FULL FORMAT is important. 4:13 I'm not sure about the wd black one but I know a lot of people buy the samsung t9 and get confused regarding the speed being not as advertised. All apple devices and almost all windows devices do not support this usb spec and so it defaults back to 10gbps instead of the advertised 20gbps. Thanks, did you get the x9pro or the x9pro Mac? I’m looking online and there’s two different versions, for me it will be for Mac laptop but would be handy to be able to flip files on windows to so suspect the x9pro will be the one for me
Great video man! Thank you so much. Great production quality as well! You got yourself a new subscriber :) After watching your first video from about a year ago I decided to go for the Samsung T7.. But now after seeing this one I'm in a battle between the Crucial X9 Pro an the Samsung T7.. I wanna use it to have a backup copy of all the data on my laptop as well as on my phone (pictures, videos, documents and some other "normal" stuff). No video editing oder gaming needs. Just simple "normal" use. Which one of the two do you recommend more? :)
Welcome aboard! Thank you so much for the kind words 🥰 Personally I’d say the X9 Pro ticks most boxes for me, but if it’s just a backup, then you probably won’t need the extra speed and smaller size.
@@AlexGTech Thanks a lot for the reply. All good bro, you're a human being after all and have a life to take care of too ;) For me longevity, reliability and portability are more important than transfer speeds. So the X9 Pro it is?

Thank you! Extremely helpful. I have been using the Orico nvme enclosures. And although they do have models now with a fan, I might switch over to Acasis enclosures. Although it seems like the Acasis have a manual switch for the fan whilst the Orico fan is automatic. Thoughts about that?
My pleasure! Orico stuff does look good! Acasis offer different versions, some with the switch for the fan and others with a fan that is always on. I prefer the switch as I am not editing from the SSD all the time and the fan noise can get a little annoying if you are just chilling in a quiet space
What do you recommend on size? Do you prefer 2TB? what about 4TB? Also are there two versions of the Crucial Drives? Like one for mac and one for PC or can you just format either in EXFAT and be happy? Thank you,
Hi mr Alex....it was a great video with detailed explaination but im still confused as which one to buy......im a medical student and want to buy external ssd for extra storage for my mac.....i dont use any pro res log or video editing but just to copy my data and make sure that it will remain safe and 1TB would be enough for me so can i get any recomendations......THANK YOU SO MUCH
Hi Alex, I have a question. I am currently using the same 14" M1 MacBook Pro that does not support dual lane speeds. I currently have access to buying the X9 Pro in 1TB for US$94.00 and the X10 Pro in 2TB for US$163. I understand you said there's not much difference in speed unless the device can support dual lane speed. However, with the price I've mentioned, which would you recommend for future-proofing and value for money? Thank you
Great video, thank you! I've bought a Crucial X10 Pro. I'm using it with a Macbook Pro M1Pro. What file system should I choose when format? Or the factory ExFAT is already a good solution?
@@AlexGTech some info from my side: i have a sabrent thunderbolt 3 case and a unibos thunderbolt 4 case and for the unibos the usb 3 fallback does not work reliable .. even though the speeds are insane, on some laptops it does not get recognized, so it is not ideal for sharing projects with other people ..
From what I have gathered on the Internet is that most of the portable SSDs that claim speeds of over 1000mb/s, can do so if your pc/laptop supports usb 3.2 (2x2) dual link. If this is true could you make a video that showcases portable SSDs that support thunderbolt 3/4 for Apple devices. This will be most helpful. Thanks
I lost all of my photos on a Sandisk. The follow up support from their customer service has been horrible. Back up your external drives!! I learned the hard way. I’ll never buy a sandisk product again.
I bought a WD Elements 10TB from an Office supply store to back up sentimental data. The second time I used the WD Elements drive it stopped working. It was just out of the 30 days - neither WD nor the Office supply store would help me. Lesson learned the hard, expensive way. Will never be going near WD again.
Recently bought the Crucial X10 Pro and returned it Amazon because - despite being sold as having onboard 256-bit AES - in fact as of today (12th Oct. 24) there is NO encryption available at all (until a new Firmware is released). WTF. Suggest your review should include 'Security' for removable SSD's as well as all the usual factors?
Don't waste your money on an x10 pro or ANY ssd that uses the very rare usb 3.2 gen 2x2 spec. No macbook and almost no windows computer supports this kind of usb meaning that an x10 pro for most users will act just like an x9 pro, and for example a samsung t9 will act like a samsung t7. I wasn't aware of the kingston one you mentioned but I checked and it also uses the 3.2. gen 2x2 spec. Just don't pay more for a 20gbps ssd over a 10gbps ssd when (unless you have a computer with a 20gbps port) it will be a 10gbps ssd for you.
Safest bet for me has been the crucial, either X9 or X10 Pro. The others may work, but if you are doing longer videos in 4K60 ProRes LOG... you're gonna need something faster than the T7. I did a review about the iPhone and shared what happens when that SSD warms up. Basically ruins the footage with lots of dropped frames/choppy images
Which adapter is best to use for T7 Shield 2TB for iPhone 14 Pro Max, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 13 Pro Max, iPhone 12 Pro Max…. Because I bought more adapters but none of them worked… so please which one is the best and to work 100%
The t9 uses a rare spec of usb, 3.2 gen 2x2 to achieve 20gbps which allows it to do 2GB/s transfer. The problem is that no apple devices and almost now windows devices support this spec of usb. Meaning in 99% of cases the drive is stuck at 10gbps regular usb 3 speeds meaning there is no performance benefit over the samsung t7. Same problem with the wd black and the crucial x10 pro in the video where he never had it go above 1GB/s even though both drives advertise 2GB/s.
Just an FYI: Regarding the Crucial X10 Pro.. I am not tech savvy at all, but I heard that the X10 is a Gen 2.2, and evidently Macs are not compatible with dual lane speeds. The X9's on the other hand, are. So, for me, it keeps coming up all over the place that the Crucial X9 Pro is the (best affordable) one to get for my iMac. This video finally sealed it for me.
thank you for the review..it is really helpful...i was confuses between Samsung's t7 and sandisk although i have crucial x6 already..now im gonna look for crucial x8
Sorry just a question from a total newbie. If the Acasis is just an enclosure for any internal NVMe drive can’t I just buy any enclosure and put in a NVMe and get amazing speeds of an NVMe? What makes Acasis unique in that respect?
hi alex! quick q- would the samsung t7 be OK to edit from if I'm only editing 1 video at a time? my vlogs usually run between 10-20 minutes.. not doing crazy editing for work, just personal vlogs. i'm trying to learn how to edit off of a drive.
Hey there! I'm a student looking for a 512gb external ssd to store all my course notes for the next six years. I'm not looking for anything high-end, just something basic within my 5000₹ (60 USD) budget. What ssd do you recommend?
ive got the SanDisk 1TB Extreme PRO Portable; i did loose a project which is messed up BUT the update they release fixed the problem and ive used it for editing ever sinse, i will buy the CrucialX10 pro 2TB as i need an extra one and it looks descent
Could you test another t7 with the iphone for prores? There has to be something wrong with your unit. Prores does not really require much bandwidth. It could in theory be recorded onto an sd card. 4k 60 prores HQ is only 800Mb/s so around 100 megabytes per second write. There is not a single SSD on the market that cannot do 100MB/s write.
Thank you Alex for this video, So I have various SSDs The Samsung T5 & T7s The Sandisk Extreme Portable & I purchased a Crucial X9 2 TB because of a great review on RUclips and claims it was faster... I can't really tell but I am editing with no issues. Two weeks after that purchase, I walked into B&H and the Crucial Team was there promoting the X9 4TB. I was told I could purchase the X9 4TB and return the X9 2TB (The Sale price of the 4TB was the same as the 2TB drive). I ended up keeping both drives. I have dropped all of these drives on the floor at one time or another and the ONLY one that seemed to have a problem was the Crucial X9 2TB... I have not dropped the X9 4TB and hope I do not. After dropping The 2TB, I could not edit on the drive. THANKFULLY, I was able to move the files. Once I reformatted the drive, It has continued to work fine. I have now purchased the SanDisk Professional 1TB PRO-BLADE SSD Mag and SanDisk Professional PRO-BLADE TRANSPORT with plans to purchase the SanDisk Professional PRO-DOCK 4 and use it for archival purposes. My experience with the PRO-BLADE SSD Mag and Transport is, despite the faster claims the transfer speeds seem to be slower than the other drives. What are your thoughts on this system and can you test it?
Here's the thing, benchmarks tests are only one important factor. The real important factor is will the drive die in a day, a month, three months? If you can't answer this, speed tests don't mean anything to me. Sandisk didn't get back to you because legal told them not to. They don't care about some youtuber even if you had 10 million subs. Crucial has tons of failure reviews as well as Samsung. So what do we do? Are internal SSD's in cases the answer for portability? After watching this I'd say go for the nuclear option Sabrent stick in a case. If you're getting 2 years out of them that's a good start. Having a backup Samsung for another Samsung is the same price as getting a pricey stick to begin with.
Any specific way to format the Crucial X10 Pro before using for mac? Im mainly going to use it for video editing, music production, and djing live. Can it do all these things or should i buy a few and keep things separate?
Love these types of tests, thanks m8 for putting the time into doing it properly 🤙🤙 For anyone looking for turnkey drive with max speed, is the SanDisk G40 pretty much the only option to get 2500-3000mb r/w straight out of the box? Doesn’t seem to be many prominent options out there for true TB3/4 speeds. I don’t mind setups like Acaseus, but have just found long-term DIY externals come with a certain amount of drama sometimes. Thanks!

My pleasure! Thanks so much, Don 🙏🏼
subscribed! love all your videos. keep up the great job bud!!!
unfortunately 2 of my 3 x10 pros got corrupted and i never got them to work again, so i would not recommend those drives, even though i love the form factor
Thankyou for your description
So which one should be for iPad Pro m1? I generally just use for video transfers THX
Great channel.
Can I ask you a question… i want to buy SSD that I can load just movies on and then connect it my Samsung smart television.
What SSD would recommend for this only purpose?
Thanks 🙏🏻
Great detailed review!!! I will for sure scoop up a C X10 Pro, and the enclosure with nvme
Thanks - thanks to you I went away from the Samsung and just picked up an x9 4tb for my 512gb mbp 2018❤
How are you finding the x9?
@@PAZPERDEE it is good
Thanks, did you get the x9pro or the x9pro Mac? I’m looking online and there’s two different versions, for me it will be for Mac laptop but would be handy to be able to flip files on windows to so suspect the x9pro will be the one for me
Love the video. Thanks for your research effort and being forward on how you picked. Hope to see more similar videos.
More to come for sure, thank you!
Excellent video! Sold me on the Crucial drives.
Thanks! Yeah they’re still my favourite in that form factor! Great speeds and super reliable
Great video man! Thank you so much. Great production quality as well! You got yourself a new subscriber :)
After watching your first video from about a year ago I decided to go for the Samsung T7..
(And sorry it took me ages to respond!)
@@AlexGTech Thanks a lot for the reply. All good bro, you're a human being after all and have a life to take care of too ;)
For me longevity, reliability and portability are more important than transfer speeds. So the X9 Pro it is?
@@HunterTeRexWhich one did you go for? I am also wanting to have one for same purpose as yours. Just backing up my photos, video and other files. Just for normal use. For sure these things should never be corrupted. I don't want to lose my files after a while.
Super video… thank you!…. Spot on about SanDisk… have an Extreme and Pro and are a nightmare to mount / unmount and when me and a colleague share the drive it takes forever to mount on my MacBook…. The fear thinking a project / footage is gone 😢… Crucial it is so 😊… Thanks
The X9 Pro has a “for Mac” option, is there a lot of difference? Im not sure its going to be for exclusive Mac use. Should i just get the normal one?
What do you recommend on size? Do you prefer 2TB? what about 4TB? Also are there two versions of the Crucial Drives? Like one for mac and one for PC or can you just format either in EXFAT and be happy? Thank you,
Hi mr Alex....it was a great video with detailed explaination but im still confused as which one to buy......im a medical student and want to buy external ssd for extra storage for my mac.....i dont use any pro res log or video editing but just to copy my data and make sure that it will remain safe and 1TB would be enough for me so can i get any recomendations......THANK YOU SO MUCH
Exactly what I needed. Thanks.
Thank you for the testing
Great video and information, thank you!
Glad it was helpful! 🙌🏼
Thank you
Such high quality content, and what a thorough review! Thank you so much, an subscribed because you really deserve it man! :)
That's so kind of you to say, thank you so much! More to come 🙏🏼
And welcome to the channel! Hope you like my content 👊🏼
Needed this.. Perfect timing.. Been driving off the last vid 😅
Perfect! Glad it's been helpful!
Whats the difference between enclosure and crucial x10 pro which one is more durable. Any pros and cons
One question...Does the Crucial X 10 Pro work with Mac pro chip m3 pro? Thank you so much!!!
Samsung T9 vs Crucial X10pro which one should I go for??
Great video, thank you! I've bought a Crucial X10 Pro. I'm using it with a Macbook Pro M1Pro. What file system should I choose when format? Or the factory ExFAT is already a good solution?
Exfat is default but not good, because its limited to only read and transfer file that less than 4gb
@@chienanh3732 thanks I reformatted it to APFS.
i would love a test of nvme cases, where you would put in just "internal nvme ssds"! great comparison btw, thx!
Thanks for the idea! I like that!

Thank you so much!! Welcome to the channel 🥰
How about microSD card?
And pen drive
Did you try a file recovery program? That will usually work. Get them back and stay away from sandisk
So helpful. Thank you. :)
My absolute pleasure! More to come for sure! I have a few new additions 🙏🏼
crucial x10 pro or kingston xs2000 which one to buy please reply
@@definingslawek4731 thank you for the reply brother
@@definingslawek4731is USB4 supposedly support those drive?
I’ve had a Samsung T5 since 2020 and never had issues with it. Only used for gaming though
Thanks for the review. I would like to ask which portable ssd would you recommend for iPhone 13 Pro Max, video recording? TIA
@@AlexGTech Thank you so much, appreciate it.
are the samsung t7, t9 PCIE ssd's or sata SSD'S ???
thank you so much for your video finally decided what to buy. Super love your videos.
Thank you so much! Glad this helped!
Which adapter is best to use for T7 Shield 2TB for iPhone 14 Pro Max, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 13 Pro Max, iPhone 12 Pro Max….
Because I bought more adapters but none of them worked… so please which one is the best and to work 100%
are these drives good for gaming?
Hopefully you can also review SSD for iphone or for android 😅, thank you so much for the knowledge
Would an insta360x4 benefit from tgese over my HP Omen laptop?
Great video. Very informative.
How's the Samsung T9?
Thanks so much! I haven't tested the T9 yet, it's on my list next 🙌🏼
@@definingslawek4731 Thanks so much. That's very helpful.

Have a Crucial X6 2TB, X9 Pro 4TB, X10 Pro 4TB for ProRes video from iPhone 15 Pro Max. Crucial believer and never turning back!
ive got the SanDisk 1TB Extreme PRO Portable; i did loose a project which is messed up BUT the update they release fixed the problem and ive used it for editing ever sinse, i will buy the CrucialX10 pro 2TB as i need an extra one and it looks descent
Can I ask why you use the Sabrent Rocket for Acasis? As I saw that Acasis recommends the WD Black SN850 2TB
Thank you Alex for this video,
So I have various SSDs The Samsung T5 & T7s The Sandisk Extreme Portable & I purchased a Crucial X9 2 TB because of a great review on RUclips and claims it was faster...
Looks like you skipped through the video as I mentioned at least two major issues about longevity 🤦🏻♂️
Any specific way to format the Crucial X10 Pro before using for mac? Im mainly going to use it for video editing, music production, and djing live. Can it do all these things or should i buy a few and keep things separate?
On the Mac there is no difference in speed from the X10 compared to the X9 since Mac’s can not use the 2x2 lanes of the x10.
which one is the best for gaming tho ?
Love these types of tests, thanks m8 for putting the time into doing it properly 🤙🤙
For anyone looking for turnkey drive with max speed, is the SanDisk G40 pretty much the only option to get 2500-3000mb r/w straight out of the box? Doesn’t seem to be many prominent options out there for true TB3/4 speeds. I don’t mind setups like Acaseus, but have just found long-term DIY externals come with a certain amount of drama sometimes. Thanks!
What about t9 4tb? Can I use with iPhone?
