Oh....and the reason for existing is multiple. For one, they do further testing on the software, they occasionally fix the stuff they get from Arch before deploying it. When they miss something, they quickly fix it and explain what happened on their forum. The Arch guys seemed to be in denial for a few days after last year's grub issue, and then they blame the user for not reading all of the release notes, meanwhile Endeavour had the problem fixed and an explanation on their forums within hours.
And that all extends to their community as well. You can ask questions and not get berated, there's no elitist gatekeepers. It's Arch without the baggage.

  • @priyanshusharma1812

Saying EOS is a user friendly version of arch is totally wrong, their website literally states it's a terminal centric distro. And is not supposed to be specifically suited to beginners, rather intermediate users who can't be bothered to waste time installing arch.
The reason why the community editions are separate is because they aren't maintained by the official team of EOS and rather the community.
So the community editions don't actually seem to have access to the EOS repos maybe idk maybe that's why the installs are pretty slow although that's just my thought, it might be some other reason too.

100% this, Arch isn't hard to install but why waste time. This isn't supposed to be a user-friendly OS. It's for professionals who don't want to waste time. With ArchInstall, maybe that is a little more in question now. But people seem to forget Arch Install wasn't always a thing.

I daily drive EOS, but I wouldn't describe it as new-user friendly. IMO they aim to be more intermediate - hence "terminal-centric distro" and relative minimalism. Arch, but easier to install and with saner defaults like a firewall, paccache, and having aur helpers in their repo.
Also, the community editions are separated because they're maintained by community members instead of the EOS team.

maybe for someone who has no tech oriented skill/knowledge it isn't, but I'm runninng EOS after a month of using pop os on a laptop as my first linux distro. I'm having a great time with it so far, and I've never really used a terminal aside from occasional use of nodejs/npm on windows, the basics of terminal workflow has been super easy for me to get comfortable with. I've also had a far better time using pacman over apt-get and getting up to date packages for various applications I needed

  • @HcgRandon

I've been using Endeavor as my main OS for well over a year now. It has been rock solid, and I have ZERO complaints. This isn't supposed to be a "user-friendly" os, as they state on their site, it is a "terminal centric" os.
EndeavourOS is great precisely because it is so close to Arch, I want to know my installation won't be EOL and dead in 5 years, and I doubt Arch is going to be gone anytime soon. The graphical install and tooling EOS offer are purely for convenience. Sure, I am fully capable of installing Arch myself, but why waste the time when EOS takes a few short minutes to have a fully bootstrapped desktop environment and can be shaped to anything you desire? "BUT Arch Install" some people seem to forget that Arch Install wasn't always a thing...
At this point in my life, I need a quick and convient OS that won't die underneath me while I grind out my daily coding. I need something stable, and I wanted it to be Arch based, I like the ecosystem. I enjoy pacman, and love the AUR. EOS perfectly fits my needs, and I have had zero desire to move away from it since I installed. No crazy or glamorous reasons for me, it's just that simple.

I've been using linux for a couple of years, mainly manjaro. Switched to endeavour this month after I goofed some stuff on the previous install and it's been super great. It just works, has a nice pacman frontend that also works with aur (yay) included by default AND it's the first distro that I've used that didn't create several desktop spaces by default on plasma. I never had a need for separate desktop spaces/rooms and it was a nice surprise then I didn't have to go to the settings and disable it. Plus it does kernel updates for you, so that's also a nice bonus, since I'am not that comfortable about updating the kernel and kernel modules, like nvidia drivers. Pretty solid arch based distro, would totally recommend

@@alejoalagente "new user frendly =/= gui" so why does it come with various options for your DE? /s
the way I read "new user friendly" is that they're 100% new to personal computers - sure they MAY have used windows a bit in school, grown up with an android phone, had a switch/xbox/playstation (if they're lucky), but all of them have their own built-in package manager (a term that nobody outside of linux users would ever know and at face value sounds like a job position at the post office) and didn't go with ubuntu/mint/etc. for whatever reason. so just like how there's an option for multiple DE's with a little blurb and picture about them, there could be one for terminal+yay vs. octopi/paman/etc. to not just give new users a choice, but a heads-up on "hey, even THIS is different and customisable on linux". it could even be non-intrusive by having a radio button that defaults to "I'ma use terminal" that you switch to "show me some package managers" under "how do you plan to install applications?" on the first page.
at least that's my take on it, and you're free to disagree (personally I disagree with them including firefox, should be waterfox imho), but with how stable EOS is, how friendly and helpful the community is, and how quick the devs are at fixing problems, it to me is a very valid consideration that booting up the EOS installer might even be the first time someone has even touched a mouse and keyboard in their life (especially in low-income areas), and as such this little convenience may go a long way wrt. the teething pains of linux becoming mainstream (outside of google's bastardisation known as android) and giving it +rep as people move away from recommending the bloated/buggy messes that are "beginner friendly" like ubuntu or manjaro or non-enterprise windows

But comparing Endeavouros and Arcolinux, I don't agree with You : one can install Arcolinux like Endeavour with a minimal set of features (kernel, xfce, ext4 or btrfs...) and afterwards add what one wants, like Endeavouros using tweaktool, pacman -S or a script for all main applications one uses. So easy, whatever distro is used. Comparing features and "wallpapers" is fine, but It would be very interesting and important to hear something about the developper-teams behind a distro.

I had the same impression when it didn't have a GUI "package manager" by default, especially since KDE Plasma includes the Discover app shortcut in the taskbar by default even though it was not installed (I think KDE has fixed this though). Installing Discover was easy however and I came to appreciate that I way prefer them installing less stuffs (all of which I do use) than installing more stuffs that I will never use.
Also EndeavourOS has been *really* stable and performant for me on all my machines of different permutations, including my main machine with an NVIDIA GPU. A lot of the things they put/configure into their distro are subtle but very crucial to having a good experience for most people. Which is likely why they had to differentiate the "Community Editions" as they are created and maintained by the community, and not curated by them so they may not offer the same great experience. The knowledge base articles they wrote and publish on their website of varying topics are also very, very helpful (I normally use these, then the Arch wiki if I need more info).
I literally do not have to tweak anything via the Terminal beyond installing Discover and enabling Bluetooth (which they disabled by default for security), which is why it's also on my partner's PC and my family PC, and they all love it. Prior to EndeavourOS, I've used: Elementary OS, Pop!_OS, and Manjaro, and they all broke on me on several different systems for no good reason. The two Debian/Ubuntu-based distros also were the ones that required the most tweaking using the Terminal - which meant I totally wouldn't ever install them on any PC that isn't mine because it just wouldn't be possible.

i used EndeavourOS for a while, its good specially if you dont want any issues.
I tried many distros Debian, Manjaro, Mint, Nobara, and prob around 13 more but now I use Arch Linux and ngl I like it more than any of the other options for many reasons.
-. No scuffed bs to deal with. In Debian and other distros there were always some annoying issues out of the box which made me think "thats just how linux is, its not as good yet..." (no issues in Arch at all, do it right and it literally just works.)
-. No bloated bs you never touch
-. minimalistic but beautiful, couple configs later I run a beautiful desktop with 1.3gb RAM idle
-. software always up to date and aviable
    -. pacman.
And its not much work, even if you don't want to write 1000 commands you now have a simple installer.

I used Endeavour OS for nearly 3 months. It was a different experience for me because I've never used Arch based distros up to that point. There were pros and con with my experience. I found that with xcfe, Endeavour OS could be quite lightweight (the main reason I love xfce) and I'm talking only running several 100 MBs of memory. The pacman package manager easy to use. However, I found that EndeavourOS is not meant for all hardware. I changed my main laptop and unbeknownst to me the hardware was not upgrade-able, so when I installed Endeavour on it, I found that the hardware limited the experience. If I opened multiple webpages, I found that it would cause the laptop to lock up (even while using xfce) and the problem would have been solvable had the laptop had more ram, and eventually I had to distro hop to another distro. All in all, Endeavour OS is an effecient, lightweight experience but I do strongly urge people to be wary of what hardware they install it on.

I currently use the Cinnamon desktop environment and the only time I've had a big issue is of my own making with breaking locales when trying to revert to English, which I was able to trace as a result of well, having done most of the setup for apps I need 😅
Though I agree that for new users, this might not be the most ideal first Linux distro, they have to be the type that's willing to be resourceful imo

    Great video. Totally agreed.
I just got a Macbook Air 2015. Other channel was recommending EndeavourOS. Since my computers use Debian, was good for me to try Arch. Loving it! great distro. I ditch Manajaro after an update breaking my system in 2 weeks from setting up a computer.
Not having any app installed I think it&s also a plus. I install what I want.
    GG EndeavourOS... GG

If I had to guess, Endeavour isn't for Linux noobs as much as it is for people who like the Arch environment, are already used to it, but want to hit the ground running on a new computer or else not deal with setup/config.

I have been an Arch user for the past 5 years and I will be very honest with you all dispite distros like Endeavour. Arch is not for everyone you have to have this mind set I call restlessness, never satisfied and always trying to achive that perfection in coding that most distros can not give to you. I do not use any other operating system with the exception of Debian mainly because we go back to the 1993 when I wrote scripts for Ian Murdock. Arch is an operating system if you really would like to know how Linux works Arch would be the perfect one to learn and explore because there are a ton of users out there that are more then happy to assist you. My humble view point of course.

So far its been really unstable, hard locks, locked reboots and shutdowns are the norm. I haven't seen this on Ubuntu 23.10

EOS is not easy Arch, it's lazy Arch. That's why it doesn't need a store IMO, installing a package with yay is faster so they include yay instead.

It's an easier version of Arch, but Endearbor is still aiming to be a very terminal-centric distribution.

Endeavor is definitely the opposite of Arco. But the reason for Arco is education, and teaching the Linux user by taking them thru different ways of using and installing Linux

Maybe they don’t want to support the community editions because they’re made by the community and don’t want people complaining about something they didn’t create?

For me endeavouros is just an installer for arch Linux and I simply uncheck all of the GUI packages and then build my system "the arch way" from a bar bones starting point

      1. I used endeavouros before arch install was really stable so still had to use endeavour
      2. Using arch install requires setting up partitions yourself which the endeavour installer can do now easily

And i still don't want to be any second in a terminal only ISO with a too small default font and no firefox help and no copy paste especially if i need to recover a system with chroot

Been comparing EndeavourOS in a VM to base Arch Linux. A few things I feel the need to point out.
First of all, I love the presentation of EndeavourOS. If you're going to take the training wheels off new users, might as well do it in style. The amount of options in the installer tweaks is generous. This is how you get the average Joe to be comfortable.
Unlike Archinstall, EndeavourOS's installer for whatever reason doesn't allow you to exclusively install the LTS kernel. It would be appreciated if they closed that gap and allowed you to only install the LTS kernel.
I've encountered a situation where stripping down the XFCE desktop and LightDM to bare bones via the installer would break something. Systemd would get stuck trying to mount a volume, requiring a chroot to fix the issue. A fairly serious speedbump that I've only encountered with the XFCE option.

I’m not sure about only, but I recently installed EOS and the LTS kernel appears to be the default after my install

All these Distros are pointless with *archinstall* coming to bear. Heck even vanilla Debian is prime time ready now. May be a tiling Window feature would be something different

      >All these Distros are pointless with archinstall coming to bear
NO because i don't want a stone age terminal only ISO, i want a live desktop that can run firefox and copy paste. But copy paste and a default font not too small for my eyes is too modern for Arch ISO.
And that iso is almost 900MB in size for just a terminal. While Porteus-XFCE-v5.0-x86_64.iso is 348MB AND COMES WITH XFCE.
"But we put 32 bit and 64 bit on our arch iso!" yea, whathever i have ventoy and can run multiple isos on a stick ...

I once tried EndeavourOS KDE last year and it had various Plasma bugs which did not affect vanilla Arch or Garuda Linux. As a former Arch user and current Fedora KDE user, I must say that EndeavourOS is disappointing and overrated.
