Thanks, Craig. I love mine. It's the third smart lock I've had and it's not only the best, but the least expensive. BTW, Aqara just updated the firmware for their M1S hub to include Matter. I don't need it as Aqara already seems to work with everything, but it's there for those who need it without having to buy a new hub. I hadn't noticed the lock icon on the Home Screen of my phone...thanks for that, too.
Hello Hugh, Good to hear from you. I hope you are doing well. That is great to hear you are loving yours. It is good to hear your experience. I am with you, this is my 3rd and best of them. It is more modern looking than my wife prefers. But she says it is sticking around because her and the girls love the fingerprint sensor. Glad to be able to help with the home screen lock. Have a great weekend Hugh
@@OCDrummer74 My batteries are showing 80% after being used for a month. I've been playing with it quite a bit so the battery life should get better with time. I might also try a set of lithium batteries. I still really happy with my lock.
@@OCDrummer74 It's interesting that the day after I wrote my response saying my U100 batteries were still showing 80% I got an Aqara notification that my batteries were low an need to be replaced. I checked their voltage and they were 1.28 volts. vs 1.62 for new AA alkaline batteries. I don't pretend to be a battery expert, but I think Aqara might be a little too conservative maybe thinking they want to make sure you have enough juice to unlock the door. Given the voltage curve and capacity of lithium batteries, they might be a good candidate for the U100. I have some older Blink cameras that actually suggest lithiums so it isn't all that unusual. I'm glad you raised the question. I decided to try lithium AAs which have a new voltage of about 1.8 volts.
Thanks for sharing! I am in the process of switching my home over from Alexa to Apple Homekit and have been wanting a lock that works with Apple Homekit. I love the options that this lock offers, and yes, the price point is significantly less expensive than the other lock I was looking at! This makes me happy.
My apologies for the delay getting back to you. Congratulations on switching over. I think it is great for people to try others. This lock is awesome for its flexibility. The price is a huge difference from comparable features. I hope the switch over goes well. It will get easier as we have more Matter devices.
Awesome review. Really want to install this on our front door since we are in the Apple ecosystem. I wonder if able to program to lock itself at certain time at night?
I bought one of these and I am really enjoying it. I was thinking of getting a 2nd one for my back door. Do you know if it is possible to copy my users and their corresponding passwords and fingerprints from one lock to another? Or will I have to set it up again?
Our home uses Schlage locks. All use the same key. Can the Aqara U100 be re-keyed to use a Schlage key? In the Aqara FAQs, it says that a new lock cylinder can be installed if it is the same size as the original. (They also say disassembling the lock to replace the cylinder will void the lock's warranty.) However, I have no way of knowing if the Schlage and Aqara cylinders are the same size.
From everything I have heard from other creators, is that it can't be changed. Each of them had went to a store and asked if they could rekey it. They said no.
Hopefully they'll bring the U100 kit to the US that has the silver version of the lock or sell the silver one by itself. This lock seems like one of the best smart locks that supports homekit.
Question with this added to Apple Home and Alexa can I lock/unlock with Apple Home or manually and have that trigger my Ring Alarm via Alexa to arm and disarm?
I just tried wrote a routine using the lock as the trigger. The options where locked, unlocked and jammed. For actions I was able to choose the Ring Alarm panel and away or stay mode.
If the door lock is setup for auto lock and the door is open for longer than the time set will the door be able to close or will the striker bang on the door frame and not close? Thanks
Great question. It does have door open and close detection. I am not sure how it works, but during calibration, it sets an open & close position. If the door was partially open, I can see what you are saying happening. It may think it is closed. August locks use a magnet to know if the door is open or closed. This doesn’t.
Hello Thanks for the update on this lock It is awesome I have Aqara products I saw that you mentioned that you have a Aqara button I don’t know how to integrate it for turning on and off my lights It doesn’t appear on the home kit app Justin the Aqara app Any input is appreciated Thanks in advance !
Hello Carlos, You might need to go into the aqara app, under profile, HomeKit and do the Name synchronization. I think that would add the button if it is not there. Mine shows up as a button under other for the room its in.
This lock is pretty awesome … but, for us, the battery life is horrible so far. It drained within 2 weeks, replaced batteries and now again after two weeks they have drained to low, needing to change. Trying to figure out if this is just us or overall issue. Anyone else?
Something is draining your batteries. If your keyhole isn't well aligned it will drain faster. Everyone is reporting 6-10 months worth of battery life with this so your 2 weeks is crazy. Something is wrong.
Unfortunately it doesn’t currently send door unlock user information to home assistant via Matter integration. I require this for some of my automations.
Hey Dennis, hope you are well. From everything I am reading is yes that you can pair it with the G3 and other hubs. But if you want Matter support you will not have that until the G3 receives the Matter update, which is due out soon. But who know how long that will be.
I realized since I responded, that my wife has not been part of the household for a while. The reason why is that I updated to the new HomeKit architecture. To do that I had to make sure every device was running current software. Instead of updating her devices, I have left her out of the home. In looking in the home settings I could not find away of sharing it. I am so sorry. I thought I had her going back in December. I may be completely mistaken or it was the Beta iOS at the time. Either way, I have to apologize for the bad information. I went through looking and could not find anything but access codes. But I really thought that at one point I had the share HomeKey option. I will have to see if I can fix that.
@@CraigsTechTalk Thanks, Craig. I managed to give my wife the HomeKey. The Home App is kind of confusing in many ways (I'm an avid Home Automation guru). I actually thought I did something in the Aqara App as well, but I'm still not quite sure. Hi everyone, QUESTION - I'm really interested in getting the Aqara U100 smart lock. Looking at it from this video the middle bar that goes between the 2 parts looks kind of flimsy. Is it strong enough to provide sufficient security for the front door? Is it a universal lock in that it can replace any door lock or is it just designed for a specific kind. Also, does anymore know if/when this will be released in UK/Europe. Would be really helpful if anyone has any advice for me. I know that's a lot of questions so thanks so much in advance 😂!
Hello, The metal plate that squeeze that attaches to the keypad is very strong. It is a solid piece of metal. The exterior also is solid metal. The inside knob is lightweight, plastic and has small screws attaching it to the metal plate in the middle. Personally, I feel the metal plate in the middle, is stronger than the inside knob that is normally on a lock. This is meant for standard single cylinder locks in the US. I do not know the type of lock in the UK/Europe. The door depth, width and locking mechanism needed could all be different than the US. I hope this helps. I have two smart locks to choose from. The Schlage encode plus and the Aqara lock. The first is from an old school lock maker. I trust the Aqara lock just as much. The Schlage uses a similar approach.

Given the inability to set a specific interval in minutes for the auto-lock to trigger and inability to issue passcodes that only work during specific times/days, will have to pass on these Aqara locks. Hopefully Aqara updates with these features on the software end at some point.

It will take any thief very short time to get in your house with that lock cylinder. In denmark we have so much higher security standards when it comes to securing our houses. That lock cylinder is very poor security.
