How to play the CHUCK STRUM on Ukulele

  • The CHUCK STRUM is also known as "CHUNKING". Some call it a muted strum or palm muting rhythm. It is a strumming technique that mutes the strings when strumming certain beats. The most common chuck that we have found is by using the very popular CALYSPO strum (or ISLAND STRUM) and adding in chuck strums on beats 2 & 4 to add a percussive sound while playing.
    In this video, Elaine breaks down the chuck strum using the calypso strum as a basis for getting that rhythmic sound to really pop out.
