I was so psyched up about this game and felt sleep woke up when game was over. Had to watch the highlights. There was no DVR. I'm loving it now watching it. Boy I miss the great defense and those running backs!! All we needed was a good solid Quarterback!!
The last time I loved MNF was 2000; wow, those games were amazing 😍🤩! I do think it makes sense to make the Sunday Night game the marquee game, but I don't feel MNF is leftovers, just lacking its past mystique (I mean, it's an old show!).
Bills and Steelers had a pretty decent rivalry in the early 90's. The Bills were the established AFC elite power, the Steelers under Bill Cowher were the up-and-comer. The Steelers had something to prove against the Bills, and they certainly played like it in most of these matchups.

The offense seemed more potent in 1995 and could have been pretty good in 1996 and '97 had O'Donnell resigned. Fun watching these defenses of the 90s. The front three with Buckner, Steed and Seals was an underrated unit.

I'm back watching some of these games to Watch Lloyd and company after watching his press conference the other day on him being inducted into the Steelers Hall of Honor. Some of these bring back frustrating memories of the Steelers passing on Marino and wasting the great defense most of the time

Only the Chiefs and Giants had combinations that could compete with that. Finished 23rd in the league in passing and just 16th in scoring. I would argue that's due more to the Steelers attempting the second most rushes in the NFL and 24th fewest passes that season compared to the competition it faced. Pittsburgh's opponents were a combined 119-137 and the average defense it faced was 13th in the league - good, but not dominant each week. My point was that this was another game where the offense relied on the defense to win - especially when the running game wasn't a factor. As a huge Steelers fan that watched every game that season, it was often frustrating to see the offense struggle time and again - especially in a very winnable AFC Championship Game. Sure, O'Donnell threw for 349 yards that game, but Pittsburgh was held to 66 rushing and they only scored 13 points.

The atmosphere was electric and more intimidating at Three Rivers especially during the 90's. Heinz field not so much. The hardcore fans stopped going because of rising ticket prices and was taken over by corporations and casual Steeler fans. You can almost hear a pin drop at Heinz field.
The Bills was the best team in the AFC for awhile in the early 90s. Then, the Steelers ended up owning them once Bill Cowher took over as their head coach.
This put Pittsburgh in the National spotlight as tops in the AFC as they CLOBBERED AFC reigning Champ Buffalo. Most of us in Pittsburgh already saw this team building for over a year - was finally nice to get some National attention - I think we made SI cover after we beat the Raiders in Oakland. I feel like Rod never gets enough credit for what he brought to this Steelers team. Once he arrived they really started their great run in the 90's as a power house under Cowher. This was in my opinion one of his best teams overall but got upset by the one year wonder Chargers who got demolished that year in the Superbowl. I really feel like had the Steelers gotten there instead in 94 they might have beaten the 49ers.

O'Donnell doomed these Steeler team's in the mid 90's he was an average QB at best and had no kind of clutch gene, it was a miracle they made it as far as they did in the playoffs with him, all the credit goes to an outrages defense and running game.

First of all it's outrageous, not outrages, 2ndly, you can't diss an average QB for getting to a Super Bowl, that's an oxymoron, it further proves you usually need an elite QB more often than not to win a title, other than Brad Johnson and Trent Dilfer(who both had once in a lifetime defenses) it's usually a guy named Brady, Manning, Brees, Roethlisberger, Rodgers, etc winning a title

The offense averaged only 19.8 points a game. That's pretty bad with the personnel the Steelers had.
They were a running team. In The AFC Title game they got away from their identity. 54 passes? Come on.
The Steelers moved the ball at will, but couldn't score. Couldn't run on SD's front seven either. Very frustrating game still all these years later.

I feel like Rod never gets enough credit for what he brought to this Steelers team. Once he arrived they really started their great run in the 90's as a power house under Cowher. This was in my opinion one of his best teams overall but got upset by the one year wonder Chargers who got demolished that year in the Superbowl. I really feel like had the Steelers gotten there instead in 94 they might have beaten the 49ers.

O'Donnell doomed these Steeler team's in the mid 90's he was an average QB at best and had no kind of clutch gene, it was a miracle they made it as far as they did in the playoffs with him, all the credit goes to an outrages defense and running game.

O'Donnell was better than average.... one game follows him around...although a big game.... played great in the 93 wild card game, 94 playoffs and led the steelers on the game winning drive against the colts in 95.... yeah he played like garbage in the 2nd half in the superbowl but c'mon guys... a little too harsh on a good qb
