I first saw the excellent, a true story, 1983 movie 'The dawn is quiet here' by the same directors only 3 years ago. Very gripping scenes. 'The Pilot' is also amazing with superb special effects and worthy of an Oscar. The Ilyushin 'IL-2' Sturmovik was an armoured, low-flying ground attack and anti-tank aircraft. It was a flying tank, troop protection aircraft and a feared tank buster (Der Todes Schwarz/The Black Death by the Nazis). The IL-2 was very hard to hit from ground anti-aircraft gunners as it was packed with rockets, canons and machine guns. It forced the German Messerschmit-109 and Junkers-88 to strike from above and many of their aces kills were IL-2s.

More like a "fairy-tale autobiography". Unfortunately. The book was written back in the communist era, so it was slightly "improved" for political reasons. Soviet pilots are excellent, patriotic, Soviet power is good, commanders are wise, and the Germans are dying by the thousands. This is typical of Soviet books from that period. Unfortunately - because many people died during these several decades, and the Yeltsin period was not very conducive to publishing real memories. Now it is also difficult (the Kremlin's historical policy is changeable, and many veterans have died).

This looks like it’s going to be absolutely unbelievably outstanding!! As long, As long as we boys don’t get sub-titles. Which My gut is telling me??????? We will!!! Because this entire cameo trailer is in English subtitles. If that’s the case? It’ll bomb. No foreign-made-flick with English subtitle has ever made bank in a big way here in our country of America. NOT. A. ONE.
You really need to get out more! The Tin Drum, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Life Is Beautiful, Pan's Labyrinth, The Postman, Fitzcaraldo, and a little film called Das Boot! There are many others, like Dersu Usala and Seven Samurai and Kagemusha, etc. They may not make the kind of money The Matrix or the MCU does, but they are very profitable and usually tell a much more compelling story. When I was young, my brother and I went to see The Longest Day. The Germans and French spoke their native language and were subtitled. We had never seen a subtitled movie before and were engrossed and informed by their translations. It made them more human. Don't get me wrong, they were still the Nazi's, the enemy, but they were no longer mythical beasts. They were flawed but they were just humans! Not supermen!
Thats because it is a HUGE distraction to READ a movie - and I - and LOTS of other Americans - HATE THAT !!! I just lose way too much trying to speed read the subtitles that the emotion and body language of the characters gets lost...it is NOT because we're xenophobic or lazy so you leftards can stuff that idea...its just that too much is missed...movies are NOT meant to be read !!!
It seems to be. I know about the story. The book was written by Boris Polevoj. Beautyful real story. Alexander Maresjev and Yurij Gagarin have a photo together in front of president Hrusciov. The title of the photo is "the two real man". I have it. In my opnion is about Maresjev.
Probably it's based on the real life events of a Soviet pilot Alexey Meresiyev who fought during the 2nd World War. During an operation his plane was grounded behind enemy lines and he got severely injured. He had been crawling for 5 days to get back to a village and then from there to Moscow. Then with prosthetic legs he became a fighter pilot again which was thought impossible at that time.

And there aren't many movies like that. At least without being sci-fi. And mostly are from WW2. I'm talking about full on air war, start to finish. Not an initial scene in the air and the whole movie is about a stranded or capured pilot, there's plenty of those already.
Check out Midway if you haven't already.
When I saw the still photo before watching the pilot I was like 'couldn't be?...Sturmovik pilot?' This does look awesome!
@@pdog109 Ok, we'll say small military aircraft. I loved Flight of the Intruder too.
I just seen "Dead Mountain" really good russian series.I believe, it's the same actor. That supernatural serial is really owesome by the way."The Pilot" movie looks very promising.Personally, I'm bit tired of Hollywood movies lately.
Looks good. I wish it was in English. I miss so much reading the subtitles.
See the facts: Top pilot aces of WW2. N01 : Erich "the Kid" Hartmann. Achieved 352 aka. 300+50+2 combat victory in WW2 mostly on eastern front. He was the Black Devil. 2nd Gerhard Barkhorn Germany 301 victory ........The top Allied pilot was a Soviet with 66 victory - Ivan Kozhedub. The top USA pilot in WW2 Richard Bong 40 victory. Top Japan pilot was Iwamoto 80 victory.

international films are the best. I would love to see more films like these . I recently saw The Captain and wow that was great cinematic work.
It seems to be inspired in Alexei Maresiev's life, the double-amputee Soviet pilot during WWII.
When i was a kid this was one of my favourite books, im so happy they made a movie out of it. Edit dammit i read the other comments its not.
Too bad imagine this + the revenant
Does this book have the same title? Is it that good?
@Stuart Hall The book is called "The story of a real Man" by Boris Polevoy
Yea, Rusians always do good Cinema. Even if it is propaganda. Great films. I would see the movie.
He pulled a Top Gun. Slowed down, and he flew right on by.

It is really our good fortune that the good guys won every war we've ever fought.
Every single time, they tell us.
Yes. One of the benefits of being victorious is that your version becomes the "official" version.
@David Long it is a criminal offence in Russia to question the conduct of the Red Army in the Great Patriotic War .
The Taliban won in Afghanistan and the're hardly the good guys. But in the fight against the nazis it's pretty clear who the bad guys were. Or at least the "baddest"
And 'they tell us' every night, over and over, on the History Channel.
@@alefcastellanos5283 To be that naive is the comfort we can no longer afford.

The world forgets that over 30 million Russians died fighting the Germans, so there are many stories to be told. This looks like a great WW2 thriller.

Russian World War 2 movies are insanely awesome...T34, White Tiger and now this. Definitely going pound for pound against Hollywood's latest Midway & Greyhound
Watch "Katyń" about mass murder
I already found this movie in that random DVD bin in the middle of the aisle at Walmart next to the rotisserie chickens.
This is a must see for me. I love the flying tank and it will be awesome.
Is this based on the Biography of the Russian pilot Alexey Meresiyev?? I have read his biography written by Boris Poleyvoy so many times from my childhood days. It would be totally a pleasant surprise for me as I have imagined his life as my own for so uncountable time. This seriously brings back those imaginations from my childhood 😍.
this is more of a common character, Alexander Maresyev one of them. There were about dozen of Soviet pilots that lost their feet and continued to fly and fight. They are all mentioned in the final texts.

Finally a real movie and not comics brought to life.
Not very real given some of the scenes in this preview.
russian action movies are as unrealistic as american ones, it's just a different perspective
Well Go USA is owned by a major US studio that does these over seas based on true story events. They are mostly WW2 related but not all and they are all awesome. Watch the one that POW are building a tank and and escape. Also the Japanners math whiz that with numbers presents the reason NOT to build the Yamato. Amazing Autobiography.
Fedor E also is a great MMA fighter. (0;
I liked how the flames followed the fuel before the plane exploded. I don't think I've ever seen that on any movie before.
Sure! Bruce Willis in "Die Hard II" when he falls off the Airplanes wing and rips open the fuel cap:)
@@carlheinz6699 I stand to be corrected although this dog fighting scene makes more of a theatrical impact.

Thought it was Colin Farrel so I clicked, now I want them to cast him in an American version of the same story.

Wow..>This looks fantastic. How can we watch it?
Is it about pilot Maresjev? I red a book about him, when I was boy, incredible story! Can somebody from Russia confirm this ?
It seems to be. I know about the story. The book was written by Boris Polevoj. Beautyful real story. Alexander Maresjev and Yurij Gagarin have a photo together in front of president Hrusciov. The title of the photo is "the two real man". I have it. In my opnion is about Maresjev.
this is a character based on Maresjev, yes. Maresjev was a fighter pilot.
Cool
A minor discrepancy in the film from 1941 is pz4 ausf-h, which originated in 1944.
Oh my god the COBRA! Awesome!
Amo filmes russo!
And if The Pilot is successful, they make The Series?
Probably it's based on the real life events of a Soviet pilot Alexey Meresiyev who fought during the 2nd World War. During an operation his plane was grounded behind enemy lines and he got severely injured. He had been crawling for 5 days to get back to a village and then from there to Moscow. Then with prosthetic legs he became a fighter pilot again which was thought impossible at that time.
Most Eastern European know this story from childhood. It is called Story about A Real Man and it's about Soviet World War II fighter pilot Aleksey Maresyev. But book is much much better.
