  • After receiving several questions with people wanting to know how I sized the cylinders for the Earth Mover Retromod, it seemed logical to make it a stand alone video.

Years ago, as a kid, I had the delightful experience of wandering thru The Surplus Center. There were wonders to behold. But that was long ago and far away. So I am glad to hear that they are still a thing.

Something else regarding the weight of the bowl that I presume you considered, but didn’t mention in the “wheelbarrow” description. In addition to the throw vs lift equation, you’re also lifting only one end of the bowl, half of the total weight.

Thanks for the lesson it was actually very interesting even for a guy that doesn’t do this type of work. BTW totally of subject question; what is going on with that tree trunk at 4:58?

Glad you found it interesting, bud! A while back we had a bad storm and parts of that tree fell on my porch, doing lots of damage! We are currently in the process of rebuilding the porch, video on that someday. :) You might have noticed concrete forms at the beginning of the video, and the pile of rectangle tubing I tripped over while measuring bowl height is the frame. My plan was to take down the tree over the Winter, but the scraper was in the way. The tree started to sprout again, so I girdled it in hopes of killing it, and it did. I didn't want all the leaves and sap adding weight to a mostly hollow tree. That tree is in bad shape.
Hopefully this Fall, I can finish taking the tree down before it falls on the house!
