this vid is a tremendous public service to the electric guitar world, righting the playing for one of the top 10 metal songs ever! ohhhh you must do the solo, absolutelyyyy 👍 solo has difficult tricks to it, to really play it 110% authentically to the original. again one of the top metal solos ever. and iommi improvised it in a just a few takes for recording, quickly off-the-cuff too right?
Absolutely love these lessons with Nick, He’s awesome and I feel like I should be paying for these with such high production quality. He throws the hardest thumbs up I’ve ever witnessed.
I've enjoyed watching videos of Mr. Bowcott so much on Sweetwater that I went back and listened to Grim Reaper, who I have not listened to in probably 25 years! That led me to a day of rocking out to Grim Reaper, Armored Saint, and Helloween, all of whom I used to watch on a concert I video on MTV when I was a teenager! Was a great stress reliever! I highly recommend it!
Watched a ton of videos on "how to play paranoid". None of them connected with me like you did sir. Got it done flat thanks to you. PLEASE bless us with the solo lesson!
Loved this lesson Nick!! Always love your lessons mate! Would absolutely love for you to dissect the solo. When I watch your lessons it’s like I’m getting an in person guitar lesson, I grab my guitar and play the song afterwards.
Perfect...YES I'd love you to do the solo so I can do the whole thing with my looper in tow... The fine detail you show makes all the difference.. Thanks alot.. Bless ya!! George.
Thanks, and just a tip for the next one you do. It's much easier to follow along if the guitar you're using to teach the lesson has fret markers! Cheers!
Best "Paranoid" rhythm lesson on the net. Thanks Nick. I was there in when it released 1970. Diverted my attention away from Free and their outstanding "Fire & Water" album....for a moment. Still love it. Signature Sabbath. Epic. Anyway, already have this nailed pretty much, but enjoyed and appreciated Nick spelling out the nuance definitively. "Paranoid" solo ASAP please Nick. Thank you.
Thank you I enjoy the lessons. Please do Tony’s solo for Paranoid when you have the chance. Thank you for your time and energy for all beginners like myself. Peace
GREAT LESSON!! Yes, Nick, I would love to see you break down the solo for Paranoid. I am glad to see this video of playing the rhythm to Paranoid, and the solo would be amazing. I will be watching to see when you post the solo breakdown! You Rock!🤘🏼🎸
Fun riffs. Yes, please dissect the solo. Tony is infamous for layering multiple tracks in the studio then modifying them for a single guitar during live shows.
Idk if any of y’all have Tony Iommi’s multi artist collaboration album, IOMMI. From 2000 my high school grad yr. but it truly truly is one of the best albums ever made IMO. It’s so good, just thought I’d throw that out there in case someone watching this video hasn’t heard it. If you haven’t, go buy it, I’m still listening to it 21 yrs later.
for years I sang "thought you were my friend" ... well there was no internet back then and I was like 14 :-) Snowblind was the song I was obsessed with trying to learn though, and yes, Iron Man or Smoke on the Water was the first electric song I ever learned, just like everyone else in the '70s. Yes of course we need the solo! How could we not?
This was excellent ! Thank-you. From Les Paul's hometown. It sounds great on our '74 -20 th anniversary Custom thru an '84 -20 th anniversary Marshall twin 65 w.
This is 100% correct. Toney Iommi also has a great interview with Gibson, in which he explains how most of the guitar tab books teach his riffs incorrectly. I always used to argue with people that did everything by the book when it came to Sabbath, and glad so! Always trust your ears.🤘
Amazing lesson!!! Why does this video have only 21k watches. I feel like this should be the million watch video (no offense to the person who made the other video). Like others, would love to see the solo video!!!
I never knew there was an "English" singles chart in the UK. I always thought it was the UK charts. Thanks for informing me of this I wonder what singles the rest of the UK were buying that week?
I have never seen it played at the 12th but when I head you play it I knew it was right , I have played it with an open E and let’s say it’s bad ass no matter where you play it thanks for the lesson in history and guitar
Thanks my friend for showing me the right way. I kinda knew something wasn't quite right because most of his songs he plays on the E and A strings and only occasionally on the AC and D strings. Aren't you glad you know him personally, let's right that wrong, lol. Em7 , yeah!
Nice spot, Paul!! "Like the beard, bridesmaid...!" May the comic genius that is Rik "the people's poet" Mayall Rest In Peace. A fellow chap from Droitwich Spa, England...
I take liberties with this tune live, though the intro riff rant is perfectly acceptable as I'm equally guilty for that one in several videos of different bands I've played in. Will make an effort to play this correctly going forward, thanks guys!
Nick didn't mention a name, but it was self apparent. Obvious to anyone with an IQ equivalent of their numerical shoe size familiar with MS dreadful 'tutorial', not just of "Paranoid".
Who remembers the whacky guy on the internet long ago who was selling "Iommi false finger tips" in order to supposedly "accurately reproduce Iommi's tone" ?? I forget what the whacky guy said they were made of..plastic or real leather or..whatever nonsense. No end to guitar-tone myths.
I love the lesson, but I'm confused 🤔. He literally says you bar the D,G, and B strings and play those. Then he puts up a graph that says it's an Em7. It's a Gmaj triad,, not an Em7. If your bar included the high E string, then it would be an Em7. Someone correct me if I'm missing something? Don't get me wrong, I love the video, and I don't want to be that guy, but.....I guess I am. 🥺
Hi Tom - I hear you, those three notes could well be interpreted as an inverted G major triad (G/D) but I, er, hear it as Em7 as the key is E minor and Tony plays an E5 immediately before the stab, giving us E, B, D, G, B...and sometimes the E at the 12th fret on the high G string too. Make sense? If you hear it as G/D...rock on, all good!!
Let this lesson with Nick Bowcott occupy your brain🤘Hit like and subscribe if you enjoyed this video!

A lesson that includes history and insight from the original artist is genuinely a lesson worth learning.
Absolutely love these lessons with Nick, He’s awesome and I feel like I should be paying for these with such high production quality.
He throws the hardest thumbs up I’ve ever witnessed.
He is definitely a great teacher, definitely someone I would’ve begged my parents to pay to teach me a few years ago, haha
😎👍 Now for the solo😬
0:40 The Wilhelm Scream! Nice one. It’s still going strong. 😆
Always knew it was played in the 12th position...darkens the tone. Play the solo Nick!👍🤘🤘
I love this guy! Entertainment, correct notes, and history lesson all in one. What could be better?
Great video, Nick. Your teaching ability, along with your humor and music knowledge has me looking for more of your guitar song lessons. Thank you...

Great video buddy, as a newbie I would have loved to know which amp you used with the settings for the awesome sound/tone

Yeah, play the solo Nick 🤘
It is amazing how different it sounds when you play it with E string rooted power vs A string rooted chords. It just sounds thicker and bigger.
Great Job Nick! From one lefty to another, I would love to see you break down the solo!
Amazing lesson 🤘
Hella sweet....solo would be AWESOME 👌😎
love this guy 😆
Great lesson! Thank you sir!
This was excellent ! Thank-you. From Les Paul's hometown. It sounds great on our '74 -20 th anniversary Custom thru an '84 -20 th anniversary Marshall twin 65 w.

Enjoy the humor and appreciate the technical accuracy.
Now, let’s see that solo ;)
Amazing lesson!!! Why does this video have only 21k watches. I feel like this should be the million watch video (no offense to the person who made the other video). Like others, would love to see the solo video!!!
Well, yes please, let’s have the solo too. If it’s as good as this lesson (slurp, slurp) it will be superb! BTW any tips on the sound? Cheers!

It’s still not to late to do the solo!!!! 😃
SOLO! Do it! 😎
Really like the way Nick breaks down the licks into chunks and has fun doing it. Yes do the Paranoid solo, Nick is the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I take liberties with this tune live, though the intro riff rant is perfectly acceptable as I'm equally guilty for that one in several videos of different bands I've played in. Will make an effort to play this correctly going forward, thanks guys!
Yes, do the lead!

Nick doesn’t give you a lesson, he takes you on a sonic adventure. 🎸🎸
Always thought Iommi played the muted part in alternate picking
Nope its all downstrokes
3:35
The solo has such a great tone to it.
I had that issue of guitar world. I was just looking at pictures then.
That rant about playing it wrong. Oof. Shots fired at Marty... “allegedly” Nick!? 🤨

I am 55,and cannot memorise the lead sound ,as long as it is played ,I play ,the forget the Gig

The more you know...
Of coarse you have to do the solo, because everyone is probably playing it wrong. These videos will eventually have a ton of views.
