I have watched this video before, and it made opening and changing the battery simple. Funny enough, today I tried it again, on my spare key, but it wouldn't open until I watched this video over again. It's actually the little twist that is being done, before you get access to the battery that makes this a very good an informative video. The terror of using too much force, just simply vanishes because it's so simple. Thanks once again!
@@WatchItPaintIt Oh, I do remember, but it's that last turn after you've got the screwdriver in. Also, have you tried making this work with the actual key? I mean, it's flat and it fits in there. I did try, but no dice, until I watched the video and changed to the flat screwdriver. The reason I ask is if you're at a place without a screwdriver, and the only flat and long is your key. TLDR: Open this with just the key.
The wife didn’t want me going near the fob in case I broke it , so she took it to Timpsons ,got charged a tenner(excluding battery) That was on our Ford Mondeo a few years ago , changed car and low battery sign starts coming up, not getting stung again , watched your tutorial and sorted it as I went, superb thanks for this
I'm 68 and needed battery change. Last time shop cost £7 to fit and battery extra. Just watched Yr video, and did it myself in couple minutes. Thank you 👍
was at morrisons supermarket, and on the way out noticed a key cutting booth, i asked if they did batteries for my key, and a quick reply was £25....so i asked how much for just the battery, and she said a £5 errr, then i come straight to u tube, and you my friend saved me £20, really appreciate your no nonsense vid:😛
Five years later, this video is still the most helpful, informative option around. Thanks! (Also, I love hearing "Bob's your uncle, Fanny's your aunt" as a USian 😄)
Thanks! I've done the way you described by prying apart the sides and it does leave the fob all scratched up. Your method is actually easier and cleaner. I do this maybe once a year, so I tend to forget how I did it last time. It's a blessing to have resources like yours. Cheers!
I watched this video years ago to replace my battery and I forgot, so I'm back here today 😂 The video is short and sweet; the instructions were clear. You nailed it, and thank you again! 🙏
i've done this job a few times, but there's always been a long enough gap between times that i forget how it works and have to look it up again. this is the best video i've seen on it, nice and clear as others have said
If I’d known it was that be easy I would’ve changed it 6 months ago when the car started beeping at me telling me to change the battery... So for 6 months I’ve had the car beeping at me ‘change the battery’, every trip BEEP!! At first it was just annoying and over time it became the norm. BEEEEEEP!!! The only reason I looked into changing it was the key battery finally gave up the ghost and I had to open the door with the little key. Imagine needing to open a car with a key 😳 I thought ‘not having that!’ Gonna miss my daily beep from the car.... NOT! Great video. Thank you. 🙏🏼
Just leave your seat belt off for a mo, you'll get more than enough beeps...I'm not off the drive before it starts on at me, it's a bit like the wife in many ways 😀

This really is a perfect RUclips how to video. Straight to the point and really clear. I've just replaced the battery in my Focus keyfob. Really straightforward after watching this. Thanks for posting it!
Thank you for a great and informative video. This is really not hard at all - when you know what to do. I think a lot of people are scared for ruining the programming or something. I remember taking the key fob to the 2011 Mondeo I used to own to my local Ford dealer. They didn't know how to do this and they didn't care to help me with it either. I was just shocked when I learned how easy it is.
I once got charged $60 for a new battery plus change and I just stood there thinking never again and from that day onwards I’ve always changed my own batteries for 10% of that cost, it’s so easy and can be done in 30 seconds once you know what to do
Thanks so much for this very straight forward video. I was charged £12 by Timpson to replace the battery in my last key fob! Not any more after seeing this.
Asked my other half to do it and he couldn’t ‘take it to Fords don’t you do it you’ll break it’ One video later Ive done it and the old man is in silence . Thank you
I still have my 2015 ST and I keep coming back to this excellent video when it comes time to change my key fob battery. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
@@WatchItPaintIt Actually, it's a Ford Focus ST. :) I love the car, but the clutch is going & it sounds like it'll be an expensive fix. I hope we can keep it; it's such a speedy little run-around.
I saw one of these videos once and they didn’t even need any screwdriver to do the job when they got inside they used the end of the key to do the twisting mechanism part of it Thanks for the video
Thank you for this. My husband kept taking my keys to change the battery because he thought I wasn’t able to do it. He doesn’t need to know that I really didn’t know what I was doing until I saw this video 😂
Thanks for this video. For anyone wondering, it is possible to use a CR2025, instead of video's recommended CR2032. As that's what I found already installed when I went to replace my key fob battery. However the CR2032 is 0.7mm taller and so has ~240mAh of power vs CR2025's ~165mAh. So a CR2032 may last around 1/3rd longer and the thinner CR2025 *might* get slightly worse contact if your fob contacts don't stretch the extra 0.7mm
I was trying to do it the other night and found the key (didn't know it was there lol). Your video really helped me, thank you for sharing your video with us all. 👍
Just bought a mk3 focus, its a titanium x with keyless start. Anyway, i didn't know there was a key inside the fob until i watched this video lol. Also, i'm happy the battery is replaceable without destroying the fob 👍

Brilliant 👍All doors now unlocking on my Ford KUGA, before it was just the Drivers door & the Boot, now i go to the passengers door & it opens very handy with all my hands full of shopping, thanks for posting this 👍
Screw Driver didn't work for me - I had to find a very thin piece of metal and was able to pry the back open from the same spot where you squeeze it to release the key cover without doing any damage. when i was trying the screw driver as indicated, it wasn't doing enough to make it easy to crack open, and I noticed i was starting to warp the plastic where the screw driver was in contact. anyway, just my experience. this video was extremely helpful. thanks again.
Damnnn! Wonder if yours is slightly different or I can imagine the tabs could grind/break a little. Glad it helped and you managed to do it anyway! Happy driving man
I followed this tutorial 3 times over the years and yeah it works,, thanks for this! But now my key fob plastic where you stick the screwdriver is mangled. Mine didn't pop open so easily. I found a secondary method - those two tabs where you squeeze to remove the cover, squeeze those tabs again and it'll make enough space to stick a flat head, gently twist to separate the pieces.
Do you think baiting on this kind of video would work? “I changed my fob battery and you won’t believe what happened…” :-D or maybe “Local Ford Dealers hate me for telling you this secret” :D thanks for your comment, happy driving!
