    Thanks for the comparison, there's almost no one comparing the whole series to other emulations. This is very useful for people on a budget who want to have a rough idea

    I don't have all of the Fat Channel plugins, but the CB is one of the best plugins in my range. It has an incredibly good sound. And it can even compress a lot with it.
    I think the Classic Comp has a very nice but strong coloring, I like it on acoustic guitars, I often find it too much coloring for vocals
    Very good video, a series about the EQs would have pleased me

    This could have been an excellent comparison video if you didn't talk between each set of compressors.
    Makes it much harder to compare.

    This was helpful, as I've recently been giving the Fat Channel more of a chance, even though I own the CLA-2A and the CLA-76. Good to know that the 160 and the FC are pretty close. I love the 160 on snares if I'm going for a snappy sound.

    Hello friend, how can I adjust the up and down movement of the yellow indicator on the meter using 3rd party compressor plugins? Studio one appears in its own compressor but not in ff pro c 2 for example. please can you help?

    • @TheAudioCzar

      I would imagine because of copyright / licensing issues. Maybe tube tech said they biting a little too hard lol

  • @stupidusername38

    these Fat Channel comps are decent,but what really annoys be about them is that Presonus do not offer them as separate plugins.I don't want to use the Fat rack everytime just for 1 plugin.

    • @TheAudioCzar
      @TheAudioCzar  4 года назад

      yeh I agree with that. They made the RC500 and VT1 its own plugin at first

    • @warlanefam
      @warlanefam 4 года назад +5

      Yeah it's annoying but you can still deactivate the rest of the modules and just use the single view, it's not at all heavy on cpu so in my opinion it doesn't really matter, it's more of an aesthetic thing

    I haven't had a chance to go through these myself since subscribing to Sphere - even though I promised I would since these were part of the draw (part) to Sphere as one of the extras I'd get for "free" as a part of the subscription that I wouldn't ordinarily buy. I'll be interested in putting the bus comp on a drum bus to see how it does. I've primary switched to using the Console 1 (so Softube) stuff as my primary mixing "strip", with it being a little difficult to piece and part things into the middle of that. I was looking for a review of the FC-670 specifically, which is how I ended up here. Relevant question: on a number of the examples, I see that your settings between the two emulations are different in many ways. Was this intentional to get a similar sound or what? For example, there are some where your threshold was different between the two emulations, which would obviously have an impact on the sound and activity of the compressors. Thanks for the video - I've subscribed to your channel since I've watched many of your videos before and we seem to have some similar stacks of plugs and of course DAW.

    • @TheAudioCzar
      @TheAudioCzar  3 года назад

      Settings had to be different to get closest to the same amount of gain reduction. So yet it was intentional

    • @BladesMusic
      @BladesMusic 3 года назад

      @@TheAudioCzar I guess I'm confused on this then. If the emulations are supposed to work as the original did, shouldn't the gain reduction, when set to the same amounts in the plugin, react the same? If not, wouldn't that mean that one of the emulations was wrong? I'd prefer to be able to set 5 emulations of the same hardware to the same values as the hardware and have the result be the same. And if 4 out of those 5 had the same amount of gain reduction (and theoretically, sound), then they would be good emulations and the 5th wouldn't be since it didn't emulate the original? Seems like a bad comparison between the emulations and the original in this case, as something is off. Right?

    • @dambajam
      @dambajam 3 года назад

      @@BladesMusic I also noticed that the settings were different which in the end had to affect the result and yet they are all emulations. Thanks for bringing this out.

    You didn't have the dials set the same. In some of the comparisons one is clamping down harder than the other but the dials are obviously at different settings.

    I have the Fat Channel, and all the Waves plug-ins you reviewed here, and I more or less agree with you on everything. One faux pas though: the Classic Comp and the V-Comp were not an accurate comparison: The Classic Comp is based on a Neve 3609; the V-Comp is based on a Neve 2254/E. While they both have their manufacturer's or developers inherent characteristics, as mentioned throughout this video, they are not an accurate comparison due to the fact that they are based on two different compressors, albeit originally from the same manufacturer. I have heard a comparison of an original hardware Neve 2254/E and the Waves V-Comp, and I have to say that Waves did such a great job on the modeling, that it is nearly identical.

      Same settings on two different plugins can give very different results. So it tried to match them by gain reduction

    The fat channel compressors don’t generate any harmonics. The waves and Softube compressors do. So fat channel compressors may model the compressor responses, but not the whole analog experience. Just add a 1khz tonegenerator before the plug and measure with spectrum at the other end, and see for yourself.

    • @stupedrandomname
      @stupedrandomname Год назад

      I just did what you suggested with the Vintage EQ and the Passive EQ using a sine wave and could not direct any distortion of the sine wave at all. So as far as I can tell from a very lame man's test there are no harmonics being added there either. I am invested in the StudioLive MKIII mixer platform and am happy to have the plugins running everywhere because I still feel they are of value. But a little more depth would have been nice. Especially after reading the hype on the PreSonus site just last night.

    THe standard fat channel tube and fet comps are imho awfull , especially the fet compressor .
    Dunno if they even modelled it in detail otherwise they would have given it the state space banner .
    And I thikn it would make more sense to use mixes to compare the busscompressors , not just a vocal
