Do your “Due Diligence”… Never take a contractor at his word for anything! Speak with current customers. The “I’ve never been taken in a scam” doesn’t apply in the Philippines!!! Scams here are next level, multi level, grift and con, supported by Police, Barangay and…and “The Holier than Thou” Catholic Church. It’s not just the stupid foreigner… this is a time honored tradition committed against their own people, Generation after Generation.! It’s only now coming to light because of the internet and better education of the people! But if you are looking for a legal solution to these Cons/Grifts, don’t hold your breath… there are no consumer protection laws on the books except those that protect the perpetrators ie.. the church, the police and the state!
Get another atty! Other builders only pay after each step is completed and they inspect the build every day or they will cut corners and use the wrong or cheap materials.
You all fell for an old real estate con: you used the seller's lawyer. In this case the seller's own wife. WTF? Orange Kite didn't have to try very hard to con this bunch. 💯🤷🏻🤦🏻
So your next door neighbors are four guys you recommended hire a conman build their house and none of you officially own any of the land your projects are located on? Bad vibes all around, I would relocate to avoid constantly being reminded of that nightmare
I don't see the benefit of owning anything in the Philippines nor would I ever get married in a country where there is ZERO gain for me as a foreigner.
@Ray_Warren oh ok well less is more. If they got scammed maybe its cuz they want to live like the west in the phillipines. Just commenting. Its laughable that expats wanna build oversize houses ie. Yours and then forget that the locals struggle for 3 square meals daily and now wanna cry. Heres some cheese with that wine. Less is more. Its unrealistic to expected even the atty to follow the law of the land. I can tell people dont do their research as in ph is a carbon copy of western world business practices however even the lawyers n doctors cant eat. Whats the M.O. of knucklehead expats: meet pinay that you know 2 months : put a ring on cuz you feel bad either she has kid or you knocked her up, you feel bad she has no shelter build a western home, you feel bad she has no vehicle you buy car, you feel bad she not working you give here php allowance. All the things that they would never do in their homes of citizenship. You can do better
Why did he do some work on the builds if the objective was to commit fraud? Maybe do a little work to show others the "progress" being made? Sorry this happened to everyone, very upsetting no doubt. Hang in there and give yourself a break. Very smart people have been taken in some simple scams over the years.
I have the same question. I know of another RUclipsr who had a house completed by orange kite and they're living in it now. It seems odd that he would complete some homes, start on others, and not even begin on others. Maybe he was legit and then just ran short on cash? Just an odd duck.
Maybe he's a horrible business man? Maybe he truly wanted to run a legitimate business, grew too fast, and basically ended up running a ponzi scheme. Saw he was very profitable at running a ponzi scheme and it became his new business. Or maybe that was the business plan from the onset.
Adriaan makes Paul David Cardwell's con look amateurish.
