You saved me. I rented a trailer and forgot about the mirrors until the last minute. I only had the time to purchase oem tow mirrors (bummer) and install myself. Without your video I would have been in way over my head. I appreciate the help!

I do not feel like I represent any sort of mechanically inclined population, but I am capable of following clear instructions on a youtube video and asking a guy at AutoZone for the tools mentioned in the video! I have a 2017 Sierra 1500 SLT that I was trying to get towing mirrors installed on without losing my powerfolding function (I routinely have to park in a garage so this is a big deal to me). After paying my local GMC dealer $300 to install mirrors that they THEN afterwards told me couldn't retain the power folding function I screamed into a pillow and then searched google for answers. Phil knocks it out of the park with this video and I ordered a harness from him that did the trick GMC said they couldn't do on a 1500 model truck. I was so happy after getting these things in and working that I asked him where I could post some positive feedback. Well deserved - and thank you Phil!

Thanks Phil for the video you made. It made the conversion vey easy. And a little advise for anyone that does the conversion and uses Phils wiring harness.....make sure you plug ALL the plugs back in before you put the door panels back on LOL. Yep i forgot to plug the passenger side window motor plug back in. I didn't have to take the entire door panel off< but still a pain. Totally my fault though.
Just finished upgrading from DL3 to genuine GMC power folder + intellihaul 3 camera system. This video saved my bacon. Thank you so much!

This video was perfect! I just changed my mirrors to the A1 Auto Tow mirrors and this process was flawless. I recommend anybody who is attempting this mod to contact Phil because he mades custom wiring harnesses that will make the A1 Auto Mirrors function properly. I ordered the harnesses from Phil and he walked me through the entire process. Without the modded harness, the A1 Auto Mirrors will not function properly. Thanks Phil for your help!

Got this all done on my truck.I have called several dealerships about getting it programmed so the fob will fold the mirrors when I hold the lock down but so far no one will look at it.I was told if it didn't come on the truck they can't do it.

hey Phil i hope you still check your channel since im late to the game. I have a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 SLE with the standard dl8 manual mirrors no blinkers or nothing. It has defrost i believe. If i purchase the Boost Auto mirrors would i still need your harness or any other additional harnesses?

Great info ! I have 2015 Sierra 1500 sle 5.3. Had power mirrors,I installed power fold mirrors and door harnesses from 2019 Silverado LTZ.along with correct switch.
You of course were right I have up and down on drivers heat in both along with puddle lamps

I've got a 2017 Silverado LT crew cab with the small car style mirrors, manual folding right now. I want to. Upgrade to towing mirrors from ebay with puddle lights and power folding, and upgrade the terrible factory speakers if possible!!! It seems like all I'll need to do this project are the mirrors, your harness and the upgraded mirror switch right? @@philgamboa2906 I have installed door harnesses and wiring harness to bring pin 9 and 11 to the jamb. My truck is an early 15 that came with none folding tow mirrors with turn signals. I purchased Oem power folding to install. How do I get them to fold. I've added the folding switch. Everything works except power folding. Do I need programming changes?

I upgraded to kicker speakers and did the kicker VSS upgrade...I have since upgraded again. Kept the kicker door speakers but adding better/more subs.
Hey Phil, I just installed the TR00285 on a 2016 GMC 2500 Sierra Duramax as your recommend and they are working with all the factory features. Phil, just love all your videos. Thanks for helping us all avoid mistakes. I do have a question though...after doing the complete install of my tow mirrors I find that the right mirror vibrates a little too much for my liking. Is there anything I can do to tighten it up a little bit? I pulled the glass all the way out on the top and bottom, shined a light in there, and everything appears to be installed correctly and intact. nothing appears broken, either. Any ideas? Thanks!
Some upper glass vibration is typical. I also noticed this on GM Factory mirrors as well. Are yours GM or aftermarket?
Okay. So I got tow mirrors I did research it will hook right up and work. The only things that won't work is the turn signal. What type of harness would I need to make that work??

After the mirror installation how you program the mirrors to open and close when you lock and unlock the truck?When I go to the truck settings on mine that function is not highlighted and I can’t gain that capability.
Hello Phil, I purchased a set of towing mirrors from Amazon just like the set in your video. I have a 2014 Silverado 1500 1LT with basic mirrors, the only controls being the adjusting button. Is there a harness that you can purchase to make these plug and play for my year model?
For the door harnesses, yes. That's what I make/sell on the forum (link in the description), however, with 2014, there will be more work ahead of you. In the link above, i explain the need for the RZY Jumper Harness. Your truck will not have the tow mirror light circuit pins present in the door jamb, going into the cabin and under the hood. Take a look at the first post in the thread above. It'll everything you need to know about this upgrade.

Process is the same for the door harness and mirrors. The difference is that you'll need to get a new door panel bezel trim (that supports the addition of a power adjust/fold switch) and and door panel harness. I've helped several WT Trim owners with this mod. For more info, please see the link in the description and send me a PM for more info.

If the new mirror has lights and your old mirror doesn't, a modification or harness swap needs to happen.
Phil I bought a 2014 silverado Ltz and it came with tow mirrors but the function of folding them in dont work cuz the old owner told me that the harness dont match what do I need in order for all the features of the tow mirrors to work

Great video and thanks for the info/detail. Do you know if these tow mirrors can be retrofitted to a 2015 tahoe? I know the base is bigger than the stock Tahoe but it looks as if the tow replacement will just overlay the bottom window moulding.
Thanks! I haven't had any exposure to the SUV platform for this retrofit, but would imagine the steps would be similar. I don't think the mirrors will fit, so I would look into a mirror maker that specifically shows fitment for the SUV platform.
I upgraded to tow mirrors on my 2014 ltz. Everything works except the cargo/reverse light can't figure out why
2 Reasons - First, if you didn't change your door harnesses, the amber running light is not working the way its supposed to. It's supposed to be on anytime the headlamps/park lamps are on. If you kept the same harnesses, they are acting like your old puddle lamp where they only come on at night and when you unlock your door. Second, since your truck is a 2014, your door jamb connector on the cabin side is missing pins 9 and 11. These are the cargo and running light circuits. Check out my RZY Jumper Harness Video - Part # 23387133. That video shows when/why its needed.
Hey Phil... quick question. I have a 1500 LTZ and I’m gonna get the OEM LTZ 2500 mirrors. Do I need any extra wiring/harness for the amber lights/reverse lights or will these already be plug and play? The mirrors get reverse power to tilt down automatically when I reverse... the Amber is the real question I guess. Thanks.

Hey Phil. I currently have power mirrors with defrost and Manuel fold. I ordered tow mirrors with Manuel fold and telescope wit hitch turn and power tilt. In your one video you mention 3 pins on the driver door harness. They are not present on the door side but are present on the body side. Does this mean I wouldn't have to proceed forward. Thanks.
Matthew, for tow mirror upgrades, the pins you want to look for are pins 9, 11, and 41. For anyone wanting to upgrade to tow mirrors, you will need to swap your door harnesses out OR modify your existing harnesses to accommodate the lighting. In the door jamb connector, Pin 9 is the Courtesy (Cargo Lamp/Revere Lamp), Pin 11 is the Park Lamp (Clearance/Running Lamp), and Pin 41 is the Turn Signal. This is the same for both sides. Since GM shares some of these slot locations for other purposes, it is a requirement for anyone upgrading to swap harnesses of modify your existing. IF, you do not have these pins on the cabin side mate connector, you WILL need the additional RZY Jumper Harness (Part #23387133). This is generally a requirement for ALL 2014 and some early 2015 trucks. For later 2015 models and on, the RZY Jumper Harness is not a requirement and only door harnesses (or existing door harness modifications) are required.
For the DIY'ers out there, I do offer a DIY "Kit" that will come with what you need to make this modification yourself.
Man, I wanna do that to my '17 silverado too but I don't have the signal or power mirrors. I'd be happy with just the side markers.
Do you have power windows? If you do, you can most certainly gain power adjust, power fold, turn signal, cargo lamp, running lamp. As a matter of fact, I helped several WT (Work Truck) Trim trucks that didn't even have power adjust mirrors upgrade and gain that. We just need to do some investigation.

I bought some tow mirrors on amazon and I just want to know if I can put the tow mirrors on and keep the power adjusting and manualfold in... without trying to gain all the other features like heated/power folding and all that. Not needed for me. Thanks
I just purchased a pair of Spec-D tow mirrors power, blinker, back up lights and heated. Only the power mirror works and now my check engine light is on. I installed these on my 2018 Chevy Silverado 2500hd diesel LT. please help I want all features to work and no more check engine light.
Hi Phil...I purchased the Tow Mirrors from 1 A Auto (P/N 1AMRP01798 for my 2015 Silverado 2500HD). Thanks for the tutorial...my only concern is that the LED spotlight goes off when I put the vehicle in reverse. Any ideas on how to fix that?

I just purchased a 16 Tahoe LT with DL8 mirrors I want to switch to DL3 mirrors I purchased a drivers and passengers door/window switch with the folding mirror button and drivers and passenger DL3 mirrors. Would I still need a harness to make them fold or would they work with just the new window/ door switches. I just want them to fold don’t care about the signal

Phil Gamboa yes I did but the harnesses didn't allow the power fold.to work. Everything else seemed to work bit the power fold.Them back to the dealership Saturday they are supposed to look tomorrow to try to find me the proper harnesses from my 2016 2500 00HD LTZ4X4 CREW CAB

Any mirror upgrade will not be plug an play. I have helped over 100 members on the GM-Trucks Forum (Link in the description up above). GM uses a shared pin slot method withe the circuits routed to different slots on the other end (end that connects to the door hinge connect). I make and sell plug and play harnesses to members on that forum. Feel free to check the link out an PM there or ask questions on the thread if you need more info. It is a very comprehensive thread.
Do you have a link do the Trail Ridge Mirrors? Also, any mirror upgrade will not be plug and play. I have a comprehensive thread in the description that will hopefully answer most questions about this upgrade.
I have a 2016 sierra Denali. I just bought a set of ebay mirrors that have the same features minus power folding, power extending, and the puddle lamp... you have a harness for my truck? Or should I buy the power folding mirrors? I didn't go that route because I didn't know how power extending worked.

16lcisneros - When upgrading from smaller DL8/DL3 Mirrors to Tow Mirrors, you will need new harnesses. I build these for each application.
If you install the mirrors without swapping harnesses, the power adjust and heat will work. None of the lighting will. If you get my custom harnesses, all of the lighting will work, Plug and Play. You’ll also be able to gain power fold (Switch needed).

Hey man got a 2015 Chevrolet zl7 only have heated mirrors I don't have any blinkers or nothing what kind of harness do I need to run this kind of mirrors?
I have a 2015 2500 high country. It has the RPO code DL3. I assume the towing mirrors were added after the truck was originally purchased. I bout the truck used. The tow mirrors are power folding, memory, etc. The blinkers on the mirror glass work correctly. The cargo lights and the clearance lamps on the front of the mirrors do not work. Could this be a wiring issue?
KYLE - KYLE - This sounds like the previous owner did not swap the harnesses. Can you test the amber light? At night, if you unlock your doors with the key fob, does the Amber light light up? Also, if they did swap the harnesses, it could be that your truck is an early 2015. In this case, you’ll be missing the running light and cargo light circuits on the cabin side of the door jamb connector.
Phil Gamboa yes the clearance lights “amber lights” do light up at night. The cargo lights do not. It is a late 15 model. Or 15.5 model.

I wanted to ask you a question regarding my 2018 chevy DURAMAX, My truck did not come with the option bumper that has the Fog lights, so i bought a GM Bumper with the GM fog lights and wireharness that goes on the fog lights, all factory parts. So now I need the the fog light knob/switch and the harness, are there any options in getting those fog lights to work, I called the chevy dealership and they told me they would not do the work in hooking up the fog lights to work. Can you help me come to a resolution with this problem. Thank you
are there brands of tow mirrors u recommend other than just oem mirrors? also will ur harness work for off brand mirrors? i.e. amazon cheap tow mirrors?
GM, Trail Ridge by 1A Auto/AM Auto. I can build harness for any mirror. Just need to do some tests on the mirrors before a harness/DIY Kit can be built. Not all mirrors are built the same and many of the aftermarket ones will have their lights wired differently.

I have a 2018 Sierra 1500 with the DL3 mirrors and I would like to change to the Tow mirrors. Would I still need to change wiring harness' or would these pretty much be plug and play as is?

1912bigd - Yes. I build these custom harnesses for these mirrors. My truck is a 2016 - 1500 LT and gained these features with my custom harnesses.

Does the wiring harness 23387134 (mentioned in video) come with 1AMRP01786 mirrors? If not, is it needed? Trying to figure this out before ordering for my gasoline 2015 GMC Sierra SLT. This truck has power folding, memory, temp guage, and heat. Any tips, suggestions, comments are appreciated.

Are the power folding mirrors standard on the 2014+ trucks?
It is usually an optioned item on higher trim trucks.

So dl3 to tow mirrors with the same function except for keeping power fold will I even need to change the harness?
Tim Divincenzo functions are not the same in regards to the lighting so harnesses are needed if you want the lights to work right.
