Thanks for the video. Just pulled my wife’s old White sewing machine out. Adjusted the loose belts and watched your video on threading and she is back in business.
@@CircleCityExplorer you have to remove the side cover. There is one screw on the side and 2 under the top cover. Once open there is a pulley on the bottom with 1 bolt on it when loosened can be slid to the side to adjust belt tension and retightened.
Only if all instructional videos were this straight to the point nice video thanks I'm going to give it a try I'll probably rewatch 10 times but to be expected when learning a new skill have a blessed one
Thank you so much! I’ve been threading it wrong the whole time! And also loved the bobbin winding video! So helpful! Was doing that wrong too! Thank you, thank you!
This is great! Thank you. I have this machine which I got from my mom and its a real workhorse. It's been going for 30+ years now. I lent it to a friend and your video is very helpful to show her how to thread.
Thank you so much! I had a brand new singer machine in the box that I got for Christmas but when I opened it parts where missing and since stores are closed right now, I was out of luck. I dug this old White machine out of my parents attic, it had been my grandmas and I was told it didn't work. THANK YOU again for your video, I was able to watch your video ( 7 times ) and finally get it to work! Now time to make masks!!! Stay safe and thank you for making these. I am such a beginner sewer and this was just what I needed!
Thank you for sharing this tutorial. I just got a " White model 2222" It was sitting on someone's house for a while. I cleaned and oil it, it sounds great 👍! Why the decorative stitches won't come out. The know moves to the correct stich but all it does is straight stich no matter what stich I choose. . . Help. . Any advice. . . .
Thanks a million for this and the bobbin winding video. Both videos are very well demonstrated and easy to follow. Bravo! I have my Mom’s White 1099 and it is very similar to the 999 in these videos. Wish you could do a video on proper tension settings and using the features of the 1099. It has a ton of bells and whistles and I have no idea how to use them.
Oh guys, thank you for this. I have a White Model 1505. It uses the same threading method. I'm attempting to be self taught and I would be lost without people like you who bother to upload videos about these older machines. I took a break from sewing for about a year and in some ways it feels like starting over. The online guide I found for my 1505 model is simply a scan of the original model and the quality of the imagery is just terrible. Comparing your video to the manual and the method I've been using assures me I've been on the right track! Thanks again.
Would you happen to know if this machine needs a certain size or type of needle, or if universal ones work? Got this machine recently but no luck for information about needle size unfortunately
Hi! I got a similar machine from my mom who has since passed. She was an expert and I wish I learned more from her, but I apparently did not and don't know what I'm doing wrong. I followed your video exactly and feel like they're both threaded as they should be. Unfortunately it's missing stitches.... like a lot and just looks like a mess of thread. Any ideas what might be wrong? It also seems like the fabric doesn't go through with the feet down... which I thought I understood should guide the fabric through.
I just got myself a machine just like this from a auction and was wondering how do you change the needle ? And do you need a specific kind for this machine? I plugged in to see if it works , and it works great but the needle broke ( it was bent when I got it , didn’t realize) . Any information would be great!
It takes a standard machine needle (you buy based on what you’re sewing) - there’s a small screw to the right of the needle shank - loosen that and the needle will drop out. Replace with a new needle (flat back to the shank and slide it all the way up to the little bump) and tighten. It’s super easy! Good luck!
@@RedBarnHomestead Thankyou so much for your quick response! Its my first time ever useing this particular machine . I paid 2$ for it at auction, it was a steal for sure! Again thankyou for all these tips on how to use this machine! Have a great day!
Hello! What a helpful video series on the White 999! Thank you so much! We're having trouble getting our bottom thread to stitch in with the top thread. We've followed your threading video, and adjusted the tension a bit. We can't seem to figure it out. Any ideas?
Hi! Super helpful up until the part where the needle thread is supposed to pull the under thread through. Mine will not go through no matter how many times I try. Every step goes how you described it until that part. Any tips?
Try running it with the bobbin area open so you can see the thread - do it super slowly - if the thread isn’t catching and being carried around the bobbin, the machine may have timing issues.
This is awesome glad I found it! . My aunt give me her old one and did not have a manual. Plus I'm brand new to sewing. This was a lot of help. But I'm having issues getting the thread from the bobbin to catch any tips on how to fix that?
Start by adjusting the tensions - upper one about halfway to start, and check the bobbin tension too (our newest video is how to check the bobbin tension)
Thank you this was very helpful. I am having trouble with bobbin winder not pulling the thread to wind onto bobbin. It spins fine until I go to wind the thread, any ideas? Thank you.
Red Barn Homestead I just set it up again and I got it working. No clue how, other then the stop motion knob was seized and I got my husband to release it. Bobbin winding fine now. Makes no sense, but thank you.
Question: The stop motion knob on my White 999 is not doing anything to disengage the drive shaft. Any ideas? I removed it and confirmed the washer in installed with the tabs pointed out and tried installing the washer the opposite way. I can not tell how it is supposed to work. Thanks
My white machine seems to get bunched up underneath when sewing.. I get about 5 to 6 good stitches then it messes up and I gotta pull it out and start over. Any suggestions on how to stop this from happening?
How do you work the clutch? My mother pulled this out of storage for me, but it’s clutch is different than the ones she has worked with. Due to not understanding it I can’t consistently get the machine to sew, I have the manual but I don’t see it explained anywhere 🤷🏻♂️
Red Barn Homestead It’s not skipping stitches. The clutch was locking and unlocking, which makes it go from sewing to being locked. I ended up finding a video that described how to take the clutch apart and reassemble it properly. Which solved my problem 😊
I am thinking about buying an old Precision Built White Sewing Machine. However, I am having trouble getting it to sew correctly. The bobbin thread wants to buildup which does not allow the fabric to move. What can I try
You thread the bobbin case - outside of the machine. Hold it by the thread (with the case hanging free) then give a light jerk on the thread. The bobbin case should only drop about 1”. If it drops more, it’s too loose, less and it’s too tight. There’s a small screw on the side of the bobbin that you can then adjust.
Uploaded a video on bobbin winding - the center wheel needs to feel very loose for the needle to be disengaged. Is it still moving while the center wheel is loose?
Can I send a picture of my machine to help me identify a missing piece? I think I'm missing a piece. Yours looks a little different than mine. But it's the same model.
I just started using a White 999, and these videos have saved me a lot of headaches. Thanks!
I just bought this machine never had i threaded a machine like this. Thank you so much for the information how to thread.
Thank you sooo much for creating & sharing this video! I inherited my late great aunt's White 999 machine...& I have no experience. Super helpful!

Try fixing tension first. If the presser foot isn’t all the way down we do have a video on how to adjust it. It may have a timing issue
Thanks for the vid. I have this sewing machine but I'm having feed problems. Do you know how to adjust the pressure of the foot on the feed dog?

we realized the belt was too tight. backed it off a bit and it solved the problem.
I think you put the bobbin thread in the case the wrong way! How well did it sew when you did that?
It sewed fine! I don’t think they’re super picky!
@@RedBarnHomestead Its supposed to turn clock wise when you put it in bobbin case. You had it counter clockwise!
The bobbin falls out when I turn the Manual turn how do I stop that?
According to the book the thread goes towards the back when loading it instead of the front. Just the opposite of the way you threaded it.
Hi how do you change the stitch size
Fairly sure one of the controls operates stitch size.
My michene dose not have all the pices in the bottom thread thing in place. I don’t know how to put them back in the thing.
