    Your channel has by far been the best tool for my game. I started taking golf serious about a year ago. I hadn't played in 25 years. I broke 100 the very next round after finding the breaking 100 video. It didn't take very long to break 90 after that. I've come close to breaking 80 4 times implementing the mindset you suggest. Golf is more enjoyable and I play better thanks to you!! I love that you focus on the mental aspect of the game when every other channel is trying to fix my swing. I can't thank you enough!! Love you boyfriend!!

    Bingewatched alot of your older videos since my game has been off the whole season, only managed to break 90 once, rest of the 15+ rounds have been 98-115. Went down town yesterday with some of your mindset with me, focusing on my shots, choosing the shots im most comfortable with and not slapping myself if im not putting an eagle on a par 5, or I miss the fairway or hit a poor shot. Played a career low 81 with only two 3 putt greens and 2 double bogeys where one included an ob shot. Was a bit bummed since the under 80 was there but it showed me that im closer to it than ive been for the past 3 years. Thanks boyfriend, love from finland.

      I played last Saturday and shot 82. Best score this year. Had one 3 put or could’ve been a 79. That would’ve been my best ever score. Going any lower than that would be improving my greens in regulation

    I’m 60, and at times we play with “kids” in their 20’s , and we always think we are going to be shown up because they hit it a mile. But they are as we say “Long and Wrong “. Us old guys don’t have that distance anymore, but with your approach club and putter working, that’s all you need. Work on those clubs because they represent about half of your strokes.

      I’m a senior as well and we’ve added a couple of younger studs to our Saturday-Sunday group. I’m hitting from the white tee’s they’re hitting from the Championship Tees and driving the ball 30-50 yards past me, but at the end of the round it’s the seniors that have the lower score. One or two lost balls destroy a round, when you reload hitting 3.

    Truth, Baus. I have a friend who´s off 5 hcp. Last time we played he had a meltdown because he took a double (including a drop) on 3, then another double on 4 after overshooting the green (a 135m/147yd) par 3 with a massive domed green) but he´d gone bogey-birdie on 1 & 2, then had an eagle 3 on 5. (492m/536yd par 5) .. on the green in 2! that´s a 300+yd drive and a 200+ yd 3 iron, to within 8 feet. He then proceeded to shoot 3 bogeys, one more double,( with another drop out of the water), 7 pars and a further 2 birdies for a total of 77 on a par 73 track with a slope rating of 131 (which gives him 2 extra shots on hcp). I kept score so he didn´t know until we came in, but he still wasn´t happy!! because of the 3 doubles! he´s had at least 8 eagles this summer! I´ve never had one! If he stopped with the meltdowns because of one bad shot he could easily be off scratch.

    My answer to your question @ 25 seconds in;
    If I hit the green I am delighted however I honestly have come to expect 5-30 yards in with 125 to the pin, due to my inability (half the time) to be present in the moment. Between club selection and failing to analyse the important factors like: moisture, temperature, flexibility (on that day) , lye, wind, or even my "fear of going long (F.O.G.L.) , ect ... (Turns out there a seemingly a few variables one forgets until the ball is struck.) Then whether playing alone or in a group. It becomes, sounds and some times feels, like One Million excuses.
    Respect to you and all you do for the aspiring golfers who seek betterment Golf Zen Master/Playa and Chief !

    Thank You Matt for all the Great information you put out for us amateurs.
    It is helping me. Lower expectations and don’t get frustrated. In all honest with myself. My approach game when it is above 125 yards. Gets bad because of to much tension trying to hit great shots. I love 97-110 yards with 9ir and 113-125 yards with 8ir . Playing tomorrow will try experiment do my best to set up these shorts only for a round. Per se if I’m 150-160 hit 50 yard pitch shot to set up favsies 9ir

    I’ll have an occasional round under par, and I can tell you the stats that get it done…. I play tee boxes on my local courses, anywhere between 6100, and 6600 yards. Not the tips! I hit my driver between 260, and 290( based on firmness of fairways), but I hit it where I’m aiming, and can shape it either direction. My driver is probably my best asset. My irons are the weakest part of my game(especially half wedge shots). I struggle with perfect strike, and some days direction too. I’ll hit 12-13 greens on a good day, and 8-9 greens on a bad day. However, I’m pretty good at getting up n down over half of the time. Okay…. This is the key to scoring…. PUTTING! I always set a goal to have less than 30 putts in a round. This is 6-7 one putts, and zero three putts. This means holing those putts inside of 10’-15’, especially for birdie, or saving par. Of course, nobody is gonna make all of those, but I concentrate very hard on holing them. Too many people just go through the motions when putting. It’s literally over 40% of your strokes! Start making putts. So, to sum it up…. Keep your driver in play, hit your approach shots on, or near the greens, and get really good at chipping, and putting. You can still score, if your approach game is off a little.

    I see 2 things wrong when I play with other people.
    1. No real idea how far they hit the ball through the air/coupled with ego that says smash the small club.
    2. No real idea how to lag putt. How to hit the ball to the hole and not steam it 8 feet past and declare "I gave the hole a chance". Well they didn't. Best expectations for a 24 handicap over 45 feet is 1 in 200 and I'm being optomistic with that.
    I've putted for 50 years. 5 handicap and if I hole 1 20 footer in a round I've had a really good putting round.

    In country Victoria (Australia) the greens are on average only 20 metres (65ft) in diameter anyway. So often you’ll be within the above margins of error but because the greens are so small you’re off. Local clubs here don’t have the cash to maintain big green complexes

    A shot from 125 yds, i.e. approx. 114 meters is an easy PW for me. Notwithstanding wind and weather conditions and the specific lie of the ball, I would expect to land within a radius of about 10 meters, i.e. roughly 30 ft., that's a diameter of 60 ft around the hole. On good days make that 15 ft. I am a 16 hcp (down from 28 hcp in 2021) at age 58.

    From 125 yards I’d like to be inside 15 feet. That’s what I practice the most and for a 17 handicapper that’s where I feel I can shave the strokes. Learning the way of the playa!

    • @golfsidekickextras
      @golfsidekickextras  2 года назад

      You can shave there playa but like I show, if youre inside 25 feet you are gonna be ahead of the average on tour playaaa

    • @duffer0309
      @duffer0309 2 года назад

      Inside 15 feet is incredible from 125 yards. Pro’s don’t do that. I’m at 21ft when I hit the green with my PW and GW (65%) and same with full 54 degree but hit green 87%. Same 21 ft with my full 57 degree and 73% GIR. Hit my PW 100, 58 61 yards. On 25-50 yard shots I’m at 15 ft with 40% up and down, and inside 25 yards I’m at 9 feet with 53% up and downs. This makes it possible for me to get aggressive with my 5W and 3H when I can’t get to green in 2 shots.

      Every once in a while they’ll display a map on par 3’s of the dispersion of shots during a tournament. It’s eye opening. The whole green is covered and there is a good percentage not on the green. My buddy hit’s a shot and shouts I pulled it and it ends up 30’ from the pin. I tell him that result is the average dispersion of a PGA player and he doesn’t believe me. I’ve sent him green maps, stats, etc. Told him dozens of times, but he still thinks he hit a shitty shot if he’s 30 feet from the pin.

    Chief, How much do you think the condition of the course affects your score. I always seem to score worse on the "cheaper" courses where the course is not as well maintained. When we play the "nice, expensive" course, we all seem to do better. Are the guys who play the crap grass municipal courses better than they think they are? Is it all in our heads?

    • @golfsidekickextras
      @golfsidekickextras  2 года назад +4

      I am the same. The feeling of the course equates to my effort. If it's really shabby, I lose interest quick. When it's nice and the conditions are greta, I play better.
      But to be honest, from what I have heard and seen, well mancured conditions are tougher. Longer grass in fairways allow for fluffier lies, tighter mowing around the greens create tough chips and fast slick but pure greens are easier yet more difficult to putt on.
      Shabby courses can create good golfers, but getting too use to a shabby condition, does not bode well for high level golf on tour level or country club level conditioning. It doesn't transfer. i would rather play on country club conditions first then go to the shabby conditions but few people have that option Iguess

      I am the exact same way. I shoot 85-87 on the city muni course and when I play the 'good' courses the scores drop to 82-85; I wish I could afford them more than once a month. I actually take real divots instead of the club speed being eaten up by rock hard ground covered by a tiny bit of grass, I've never been great at picking the ball of the turf on full swings. Then there is the greens, man are they in SO MUCH better shape and true, no bumps to throw your ball off the line.
