I love that they did this for Donna. It makes sense that if she was struggling with school core classes, that maybe she was just more of a creative mind.
Eh... that would mean creative people on the whole struggle with academia which, generally speaking, isn't the case. But I think I know what you meant: Because of her learning disability it was a kind plotline to have her find a talent to boost her self-esteem.
@@RodneyDodson I find it interesting personally because everybody I know who has been diagnosed with dyslexia incredibly creative and usually very artistic as well.
Unpopular opinion: Mr. Walsh always knew on some gut level that Dylan was trash and would hurt Brenda. Everyone thinks he was overprotective and overbearing but it turns out he was right. Also, Kelly was jealous and insecure and couldn’t even be happy for her friend being affirmed by a teacher in a newly discovered talent. Like it would have killed Kelly to just be supportive and encouraging. Both Dylan and Kelly suck.
Mr. Walsh was probably right about Dylan in many ways, but the way he treated Brenda trying to control her personal life while being ok with Brendon doing whatever he wanted, was not right at all.
Now that I'm a parent of a teenager I am watching the first seasons again. Jim absolutely started putting a wedge between Dylan and Brenda and the final straw was when Jim wouldn't let Brenda go to the dinner party with Dylan's father. Kelly went and that sealed the deal for Dylan.
Also- what I love watching is how Kelly and Dylan grew as people thanks to the influence of the Walsh family. They needed that. Both characters were very flawed because of their childhoods but they both grew into very different people by the end of the show (and back together, as they were meant to be).
Just wish Jim or Cindy Walsh would have taught their daughter how to discern the right character in a man instead of emotionally lashing out at their daughter. That is never going to help a relationship in a healthy way
@@janalove64 even though I have always been on Brenda team, rewatching the show as an adult, I'd say he became someone Brenda shouldn't date since this moment he yelled at her for the first time. Which was their first date! This was such a massive red flag, border line abusive, and she still went for it! I don't blame her, I had a very similar experience too, but now I think no matter how valid the reasons were for Dylan to be mad, Brenda is not a punching bag, and especially if he allows this behaviour from the start, it's very unlikely he will treat her right in the future.
The Dylan/Kelly relationship isn't inconsistent when you think about it (Kelly has always been physically attracted to him, and it's mutual), but the basis of this relationship is so superficial. Dylan seems to be looking for someone more "free" than Brenda (i.e. without an intrusive family), and Kelly seems to be especially attracted to the forbidden fruit: I have no right to like this guy, so I love it. While Brenda and Dylan are both extremely different (they bring a lot to each other with their differences) and in the same vibration: both passionate about art, literature, cinema, like to explore different points of view... The Dylan/Kelly relationship is shaky from the start.
She's one of those people that has to be the center of attention in all things, and if she is not, she gets jealous. Huge personality flaw. I know way too many people like this, and they are all born under the sign of Aries or Leo.
Pairing kelly with Dylan kinda lowered the level of the true friendship of the 3 of them,I think it was a big mistake overall in the show .pairing them with outsiders would have been better than seeing their friendship go down the drain.
It definitely felt like a mistake (I mean if you were fans of Dylan and Brenda) but after this show did the love triangle storyline with the two best friends, it seemed to cause all the other teen shows after to do the same thing 😂
Dylan pretty much telling Kelly he loves her while on the phone with Brenda was insane in the best way and the way they look at each other!!!!! They don't write love triangles like this anymore.
Obviously he was saying I love you to Brenda. If he was not on the phone with Brenda he would not have said I love you at all because Dylan and Kelly were not at that point yet. In all reality he looked at Kelly when he said that because that is what the script told him to do and it was Lucks idea to work with the blonde lol But as far as the Dylan character he could have been looking at Kelly when he said that just a mess with her head.
....ok....some observations...It's long.... (cont.) 1. Dylan was feeling pressured into committing WHOLLY to Brenda, while she's figuring out her future....Kelly was an 'easy fix' (4:30), and the writers played up to it.....NOT realizing the LARGE fanbase of Dylan / Brenda fans.....STILL, to this Day.... 2. ...while Donna's drawing IS nice, it's not exactly 'Art' ...more like FASHION...It would've been more plausible to have the Art Teacher direct Donna into FASHION, which would've been more believable (0:24)... unlike, her Paris, "...eUU, can be ah ZUPPER-MOD-ELLE..." Photo shoot... and, WHO wears a Red Dress to a SKETCHING CLASS!?? (0:43) 3. ....speaking of 'dress', WHY can't Teen Girls dress like BRENDA!? ...that cute 'Annie Hall' influenced ensemble is ADORABLE! (1:30) ....unlike, the continuity of the the filming....what happened to the BREEZE!?? (2:06) ...ha-HAA!!
Luke Perry is the one who came up with that storyline. The cast was always on the outs with Shannen as she was difficult to work with, but I heard later on that Jennie was a nightmare too. Donna did go into fashion in college and later opened her own clothing store after college. I think Brenda looked gorgeous in this episode and really improved every season. I love her hair.
I didn’t see it if he did, she admitted to throwing herself at him a few times before and admitted to doing it when he and Brenda started dating but he rejected her every time until Brenda went to Paris.
If he really wanted Kelly, he could have had Kelly long before he got together with Brenda but that never happened until the day she went to Paris. Then Kelly was throwing her herself at Dylan
Good art teachers never do that ... showcase one student's work as "best." Every student should be encouraged in their own style and approach. What she is suggesting is that everyone copy Donna. No!! (I have a master's in art ed... I became a teacher to encourage all students!)
Donna and Dylan had very little interaction, but Brenda was a valued member of our team for years on end and we have been working hard on getting her back to work
I can say that Kelly is jealous to all the girls who is......u know doing good than her or she's being outcast. Well because Kelly is not confident about herself that, she's lacking of u know trust about her she's always getting what others have that. Well it's because she cannot do it right so that's why she's jealous. Specially Brenda who is being herself and u know be who u are that's what Brenda is doing or showing, but I can still say that Brenda still u know lacking lots of things too, but she's not jealous to anybody she's just going wd the flow that, unlike Kelly shes really like that who is also she lack of attention so that's why. When Dylan became trash in my book
Th writers really messed up his character arc. He became someone I didn't even think Brenda should date. So sad and disappointing.
100% agree!
For sure. He is so deceptive, manipulative and spineless.

I think he had already made up his mind...
Notice that it was Kelly visiting Dylan not Dylan going after Kelly and knocking at her door 🤍😊
Why does Kelly hate everyone’s desires?!
Because she is jealous of everyone. She couldn't even be excited for Donna.
she wishes she had what they did
Generally this type of attitude is a sign of pretty significant insecurity.
Rewatching this as an adult is so eye opening. Kelly was such a hater about everyone and everything.
She’s been sipping too much haterade 😂

Why is Kellyso jealous for Donna's painting skills? Why is she always jealous because of Dylan + Brenda being together and puts herself in the middle?

It wasn't a mistake, it would make the effect more dramatic, and it was to be expected that a story would be invented between Kelly and Dylan.
