I have a lot of respect for Ler, imagine trying to play over the harmonically twisted shit Les Claypool throws out there?
Les is great but ler is the soul of the band
@@gingerbaker1785 no...just no
Primus are out to chase souls, not to own one themselves
He co-founded Possessed and influenced death metal with them, then joined Primus and influenced many nu-metal bands. Legendary.
Yeah I just learned that the other night.. I was blown the f away.. I'm 48.. been into death metal and all that since idk like 88... loved primus when they emerged but never knew that Ler was in Posessed..
Wonder if Possessed was half as much fun a Primus, dude seemed to be having a great time in this rundown!
one of the most underrated guitarists, this dude can shred
"maybe you better double check the levels on th-" *ler starts shredding*
Ler's in his space. He said the levels can check themselves.
"Buzzsaw, y'know?"
Ler is def underrated!!! amazing guitarist!!!!!!!
I have to agree, yeah
He is seriously awesome.
Jym E. Changa He is not overrated at all
I like how in depth Ler was and demonstrated with everything, not a lot of artists do that. Now... Where is Les Claypool's rig rundown?
+Truman Fleming RUclips can't take videos longer than 24 hours :(
+Greelord yeah they can it just takes a million years
I like how he was plugged in so you could hear his effects.
they can only get him if he agrees to it, for whatever reason he couldnt be bothered.
I know! i really want to see one like this of Les.
Ler is the quietest madman guitar ninja ever. Always loved his general approach and He's just so damn bizarre!?!?!?
Larry could definitely write and play songs fo television, especially cartoons. Love his style, attitude and is the perfect match fo Les Claypool's colorful playing. He is one of my favorite guitarist.
CDA Cadkison Dude, Primus just did the original song for the South Park credits!
Yea Primus did the original South Park Theme
he did death metal in possesed tho
@@noone26667
Robot chicken is les claypool, South park is primus.
A testament to how cool Larry is: he is personally demoing and talking about his gear as opposed to just about everybody else who gets their tech to do it. fucking love larry. that is his personality. that's how he is in primus. no ego. just an awesome, badass player. LOVE LER
One of the best interviews I've seen on here! What a great guy, no ego, just fun guitar player.
I love his practical approach to road guitars. It's refreshing to have someone be candid about how good the quality of an off the shelf modern guitar is
I play this exact Strat! Dope to see your heroes using your gear.
so honest and candid. One of my favorite bands and he is the perfect foil for Les . . . Les has to dominate a band/sound (that is not an insult, I have traveled to 4 states to see him in various formations for 10 shows in past 5 years) and Ler is more laid back and happy to add to without taking over.
This video can only make you like him more.
I know, right? He seems like a dude you'd met at some local shows or a co-worker who happens to play guitar really well. No pretension whatsoever, it's refreshing to see that from people you admire.
I love that description, I've heard some poor mixes where Ler is dominating Les and you're just like "damn the engineers at this venue really haven't listened to too much Primus"
One of the most underrated guitarists IMHO
I remember the day I saw the video for "John the Fisherman" on 120 minutes. I was a fan from that moment on. And this is the best rig rundown ever (and there are some amazing ones). Ler has been a huge influence on my playing and I rip him off every chance I get. I love Primus, Ler and Premier Guitar.
I don't know how else to say this but.... I love this man. His guitar sounds have brought magic to my life and you can find a better person. Long Live Larry "Ler" Lalonde! :D
Ler. What a super cool guy. And no one PLAYS effects better. No one.
Tom Morello
True. Forgot about Tom.
i love ler, and i know mike einziger studied him for years. you can see this on SCIENCE and Make Yourself. then he softened up a bit on morning view
Yeah, the Ler-Mike connection makes sense. Loved SCIENCE.
Nels Cline is a trip with effects too
Awesome interview. It's nice to see someone who is out there still having fun with what he does. I wish more musicians had his attitude.
I really admire how much work these guys put into finding the perfect sound. Every song has a unique sound. Very cool
I wish he would be more proud of his time with Possessed, but I enjoy Primus too.
Kelly Moon
I'm fairly confident that he doesn't have a problem with his history, but he's definitely moved on from what he did in high school.
For me, "Seven Churches" is an amazing record and really made a huge impression on me and my friends when it came out. And the follow-up "Beyond The Gates" is also fantastic, but often overlooked and underrated by many.
I remember the first time I heard of Primus, it was when the put out the "Frizzle Fry" album around 1990, and I saw that the guitar player was named Larry LeLonde. It's a fairly unusual name, and Primus is a Bay Area band as was Possessed, but I wasn't sure if it was the same guy. And since this was before the internet, I didn't have a way to just look it up. It wasn't until the next Primus album came out and they got big on MTV did I know for sure it was the same guy.
I feel like he probably just gets sick of hearing about it cause it was so long ago and he's developed alot since then
possessed pales in comparison maybe
He grew as a much better guitarist with primus
He's been in the business for 20+ yrs & he's just a nice guy. I saw Primus once (what an experience). How this guy got a note in edgewise amazed me. But he's the perfect guitar player for Primus.
These are such geek-out moments for me, and Ler is one of my heaviest inspirations and all-time fav guitar wizards out there. Thanks for doing a rundown with this masterful gentleman!
such a cool dude
Great player, I once met him in a guitar store and he told me that he mixes blues and funk and grooves them with les’s bass riffs, amazing technique👍🎸
This dude is one of the most underrated guitarists of all time just an amazing player not too mention his band primus never gets old... 🤘🏻
"Primus Sucks" I still remember their concert like it was yesterday, love them
"Larry, remember when we talked in October.....Hey, back when we talked in October......I fell in love in October..."
haaaahahahahahahaaaaa!
Please do a rig rundown with Les Claypool!!
Hell yeah, we need him :D I absolutely love Les’s playing and he’s one of my biggest influences for bass (as well as slapping, along with Flea) and just one of my favourite bassists in general
Andrew Pappas Yeah same for me, My solo work is a very les/primus style band
I’d like to see the Rockapalast 99 rig for Les, that tone was VIOLENT
He's been asked by dozens of people and has always said no.
Im so proud of my favorite band
His face looks just like his cowboy getup from the Wynona's Big Brown beaver video now.
I was thinking the same thing. He's got the rosy cheeks and everything.
I can see that, yeah
Haha yeah
Finally... Took me a long time to find this video, but just wanna say Finally! somebody asks Ler some questions, He is immensely underrated, and every bass players dream is to have a shredder like this man. He thinks outside the box.
He seems like such a chill guy.
"Ler" is the man!!! My favourite rig rundown so far. After seeing them on the Chocolate Factory tour I'm pretty sure his tech is the hardest working person in music.
He was/is the perfect guitarist for Primus. Way underrated and one of my favorite guitarists.
Ler is so chill and nice!!!
One of the most original guitar players I've ever heard. Much respect. Saw you recently in Calgary. Awesome show thank you. And thanks for your Insight. As a musician it is much appreciated
Brilliant pedal marking system.
I so love Larry's experimental attitude toward sounds. It's one thing if someone wants to stick with a small palette of sounds for some artistic reason, but I simply don't understand electric guitarists who criticize other electric guitarists who try exploit the different possibilities of sound available. If you play with both your hands and feet, the electric guitar can become an amazing thing. And look how much fun Larry has with it! :)
What a nice guy with a great interview.
awesome to see a rig rundown where the guitarist actually demonstrates the sound of the pedals he's using!
it's hard to believe that death metal would not have existed without this guy......He was in the first death metal band
Ler's equipments are totally amazing!
Larry "Ler" LaLonde is so kewl. One of my favorite things he was involved with was his "Zappa Picks" compilation for Rykodisc in the late '90's. He did a great job with the song selections and sequence. Power on, "Ler"! :-)
Finally a rundown with actual demos!
Larry is the best! Met him once before a show, super nice guy :-)
Desde México apoyando al buen Larry y por supuesto que a mí banda favorita... PRIMUS! 😎👍
AHUEVO
I've alwaysloved Ler, only recently have I found interview's and videos that are focused on him. Thanks for the rundown!
AAAAAltoona. Ler is one of the most underappreciated guitar players in rock.
No doubt Rand! He's so talented and like you said, underappreciated. All three of them are so talented, I think its jealousy from their peers?
I totally agree, the fact that he can keep up with the stuff Les is doing puts him in a whole league of his own
Just bought tickets to see these guys a year from now. Going to be a long ass year. Got lucky to get tickets on the floor, going to be a hell of a show
WE NEED (or just want) A LES CLAYPOOL RIG RUNDOWN!!!
Very cool! Just saw them yesterday in Columbus, OH, he has switched out the Fender head/EVH cabs for Orange heads and Cabs. It was a GREAT show.
the most underrated guitar player from the 90s era......u sir Rule.
This is my favorite rig rundown.
Ler seems like such a chill, nice fella... And of course is a spectacular geetar player
What a cool dude, I think it's awesome he i happy to be there for his own gear. Not like all the many divas in guitar. Way cool guy.
best rig rundown ive seen
Good video I like how this guy doesn't take himself so serious and draws from a lot of different influences.
I like the Fender Stratocasters that Larry brings out with Primus in multiple colors, even his vintage ones that he carries from home in North Cal. That's fucking classic.
Awesome interview, loaded with great information + demonstrations
I'm so excited for the 3-D primus tour this year!
Been looking for something like this with Ler for years, thanks!!!!!
Been a fan of Ler since his days in Possessed. Very creative player with a style all his own. Anybody remember Blind Illusion with Ler and Les?
he is SUCH a good guitarist! so under-rated
Love how Shawn did his homework pretty well and seems like a fan as well. Not unlike that shaggy fellow.
Ler is the best at what he does! Goes so perfectly with Les too!
first time I've heard ler speak. He's a cool down to earth dude.
I've wanted to see his rig for so long...
Primus 3-D in Detroit! Ler and Les with melt my mind once again!
Duddee. this guy sounds soo chill and nice. DAMN..
This is an awesome gear vid, if they were all like this I would be so stoked
Des Moines, Iowa. I've been there 100 times.
Good interview with Ler!
Dude i swore to myself i was gonna stop watching rig rundowns and actually get some work done. That was three hours ago.
"You just turn them on when you need them" Story of my life..
Underrated for sure!
awesome sounds
I think Ler is sooooo so so so underrated but I've always felt that because he is so much of a textural and not the overt technical part of Primus he doesn't get the kind of ape/caveman "me show off" bullshit attention. You are the man Ler.
Super helpful and gratious guy, good dude.
Such a lucky dude to have a truly unique style
Is it Luck?
@@Douganchesner well you have to have the right people around you to bring out your true style.
I was at this show…in West Des Moines, not Altoona….
Awesome weird guitarplayer! 🎶 🖤
Dudes so cool. Great run down
He's so awesome!
EMPRESS effects! amazing
Larry's a real cool guy :) I kinda expect to see him play vintage guitars, surprised to see those newer american deluxe strats and teles.
this guy has it's own signature tone.. that sounds weird and not your typical rock mix...
This entire band is comprised of some of the most talented people ever
1:07 "I'll click it. Mneeeh"
What a lovely guy
Nice. I like it how he mostly uses stock guitars not custom.
Les needs to do one of these
Ler is criminally underrated!
me too man! My 17th Birthday Present, I'm so Siked!!
Just saw Primus last week.. He was using a couple Orange amps though.
@EpiclyConnor Well, the thing is Les is the lead instrument in Primus really, even in the PG interview Ler was talking about this, he plays more of a backup guitar in Primus.
Ler is a sweetheart. TrueTone is awesome.
@coche9009 Unfortunately, not this time around.
So the thumbs down are because Primus sucks right? Not sure RUclips is calibrated to take that into account...
Not because they don't have Rebecca Dirks do all the rig rundowns huh....
Are you old enough to know that the thing to say is Primus Sucks? I am. Kind of like Fishbone is Red Hot!
Frizzle Fry? Come on now? That album is the stuff and sauce. And I’m a hill country blues man.
This man is a geek in the best sense of the word
cool setup, very unique sound.
